Good Morning Paul, thank you for the comment - The soup is very nice and the bread was excellent - a decent meal for £0.97p - I used to enjoy Baxters soups in particular the Royal Game one ! I have not had any for a while - Have a great Sunday my Friend :-)
Glad you tried this Scotch Broth soup that you throughly enjoyed it. I had it during the week thought it may needed a little more seasoning 🧂 but that’s just me. Just Deano from Yorkshire tried Lidls Chunky soup Lamb & Vegetables he added mint sauce ( Aldi ) to it and he liked it so I went to my local Lidl on Friday and got a can great value for 62pence . Haven’t tried it because my partner made homemade lentil & vegetable soup in a big pot. Just had it with a buttered roll . Lovely hearty food for the wintry weather we have been having in the UK . Just like the doctor ordered. Back to the Scotch Broth yes I would buy it again. Alright for the price.
Good Morning William , thank you for the comment - I do like Scotch Broth and this one from Lidl was excellent - I have tried a few from the range and they have all been decent so far and at a great Price too - I do like homemade soups myself and do quite often make vegetable and French Onion soup - the weather has been awful over the past few days but this morning it is quite mild ! Have a great Sunday :-)
Good Morning Graham, thank you for the comment - you are quite right and Broths and Stews are the order of the day in the chilly weather ! Have a great Monday :-)
Hi Graham, a bowl of lovely warming soup & buttered bread roll...mmmm. i tried Scotch or Highland broth some months back & didn't like the taste as much compared to beef broth & found it quite watery, but this one looks quite thick. I also liked the look of the bread roll. GI is Glycaemic Index...it's to do with carbs & how quickly or slowly they are digested & increase blood glucose levels. You have high GI & low GI. I'm no expert, but low GI is better for you like brown rice & brown bread than high GI like white rice & white bread as the release is slower, over a longer period of time. I hope i've explained that right, but you can look it up on t'internet. It's a good thing to follow if you are diabetic.
@williamlong7188 Hi 🙂 i am no expert so you can learn all about the Glycaemic Index on the internet, i'm just remembering bits from when i attended a course with my sister who is type 2 diabetic. You can get books on it also 🙂👍
Good Morning Kate, thank you for the comment and for the knowledge and that is very interesting - The soup was very nice and worth a go it was rich and thick with a lovely flavour - I know some people do not like Pearl Barley but it is good and it is supposed to be good for you which is a bonus ! Wishing You a Lovely Sunday :-)
@@grahamjenkinson3487 Hi Graham, i do like pearl barley, it is in my favourite soup - beef broth, i bought a packet when i was making a casserole i think & i've got loads left ☺️
Another great find Graham and I do need to look around Lidl soon as I do a lot of shopping in Tesco in the next town to me and there is a Lidl not far away from it And you're quite right the smell of a fresh bakery is amazing. I used to holiday a lot in France with my ex wife and children and the morning routine was a trip to the campsite shop buy some fresh baguettes and croissants and some carved ham and free range eggs. Nothing beats boiled eggs ham baguettes hot jam filled croissants and Yorkshire tea for your breakfast in a caravan holiday in France, I love a full British breakfast as a treat but our holiday breakfasts set you up for the day without making us so full we just wanted to go back to bed 👍👍🥫🥖🧈
Good Morning Robert, thank you for the comment - Lidl do have some excellent products although I do prefer Aldi these days - This Scotch Broth was really good - the smell of the fresh bakery takes me back in time to Spain and France and you had to be there to appreciate just how wonderful that smell was - I agree the ham and eggs were always on the shopping list and so amazingly tasty - I too love a full English Breakfast , A Full Welsh Breakfast and Irish Breakfast ! I have not yet tried a Scottish Breakfast but I will one day ! The last time I was in Wales I stayed at the White Lion in Bala and had the Welsh breakfast of Ham and Eggs and it was wonderful ! you are right there is something about a breakfast that makes you tired ! but it is a nice tiredness ! Happy Memories of Happy days ! have a great Saturday my Friend :-)
Hi both 😁 i have never had ham & eggs together, but now i'm inspired to try it. I've had ham & cheese. I'm going to ASDA later today (hopefully) & i'll get some ham & eggs & hopefully a fresh baguette 😊👍
@@kate6038 you don't know what you are missing Kate to make it perfection add some chips as ham ,egg and chips is an amazing meal and the combination of hot chips and eggs and cold ham is brilliant and you can have the addition of peas or beans or branston pickle. Pure bliss 👍👍🍖🍳🍳🍟
@@robertlindop9365hi Robert, i was explaining to Graham about what GI means & that would be carb overload with the white bread of the baguette with chips inside like a chip butty 😂 it all tastes so good though. I haven't had a chip butty in years, but always got to be white bread & butter. So what"s the best ham to use in the baguette? Soft or hard boil the eggs? It's only going to work if the baguette is fresh though & i don't think it will be by the time i get there, probably rock hard if there is any left at all 😂 Would mayo or salad cream work with the ham & egg?
@@kate6038 Any type of ham but if you have a local butchers visit it and it and buy roast ham it has a distinctive taste over just boiled ham. And it would work perfectly with sliced hard boiled eggs and salad and either salad cream or mayonnaise, but definitely try ham eggs and chips and sod the carbs you only live once unless you are James Bond 👍👍🍖🍳🍟
Lidl Oxtail soup with an added vegetable stock pot (from Lid) is superb. the added stock pot thickens the soup up to perfection. just throw a few bread rolls in the air fryer for 3 mins and away you go.
Good Morning D+A, thank you for the comment - Happy weekend to you both ! It is certainly a time to keep warm ! bloody freezing here again in the Shire - Love n Hugz G+A XX :-)
Good Mornbing@djohn, thank you for the comment - I so like oxtail soup and your suggestion of adding a stock pot sounds ideal ! have a great Saturday :-)
I don't think I have had pearl barley since I was at junior school I didn't think it was so widely available but it is only £1 for 500 grams. Lidl used to do a lentil soup I think they stopped doing it that was very good but I don't think it was very popular and they only want stuff on there shelves that moves fast. The Lidl bakery is very good depending on what you like but there normal everyday bread to me isn't very good but everyone has there own likes and dislikes
Good Morning MansfieldLad, thank you for the comment - there are a lot of people my wife included who can not stand the taste of Pearl Barley thanks to her Scottish Aunt who added it to everything ! I guess it was used and still is to bulk out meals ! personally I quite like it but each to their own ! I agree with you re Lidl bakery some of the bread is very average and some are quite good ! I just love the aroma as you walk in as it takes me back to many happy holidays in Majorca and France - Wishing You a Great Saturday and I hope the Parrots are well ! :-)
