My 1st job, my dad made me save $3 a day. Out of my 1st check, that meant $90. My check was only $133. That was almost 2 weeks of labor, because of the week in the hole and all I could keep was about $40 because it cost money just to cash the check. And he forced me to take $25 of that and open a checking account which left less than $20 in my pocket. But that saved me a little over $1000 every year. As long as I kept that up, he didn't make me pay any of the bills. Of course the next check was better and easier and because I had already put back my daily $3 for that month, every week was easier by only having to save $21 each week. Today a teen could triple that and save $63 a week and end up saving about $3,500 a year. The best thing a parent can do for their teenagers is teach and enforce the importance of savings.
With COVID the last thing I want to deal with is physically handling money. A debit card is cleaner and safer. I'd suggest having a certain amount of your weekly direct deposit automatically deposited into a savings account. Out of a $500 weekly direct deposit, $250 could automatically be deposited into your savings account and that would be an automatic $1,000 or more (depending on a 4 or 5 week month) automatically in your savings account each month. $12,000 saved EVERY year. 5 years later that's $60,000 saved. And with yearly wage increases, your checking account misses that $250 less and less each year. Or you can increase the amount you save with those wage increase.
Jump on board!!! I'm here for it!! I'm looking forward to completing the "Save your Age" challenge. That's going to be huge for me!! Thanks for watching!
My friend was doing this with gift cards like every 2 weeks a 50 gift card cause she has a big family to shop for at Christmas and then putting the gift cards in plain envelopes and putting them in a sack and on Christmas everyone got to put there hand in and grab an envelope and pass the bag around the room and at the end trade cards with each other if they wanted it was fun
Amen...I work in healthcare too and have the same problem with people not showing up...it's frustrating but have slowly and happily come to the conclusion that them not showing up (if they are on a different shift) looks real good in MY wallet...God knows I'm snagging some OT💖
I have an old gallon pickle jar that I use to my change in. Last week I cashed in over $60 in change. Not including the $225 in $1s and $5 and $10. It adds up quick.
You did a great job in encouraging others to save. I couldn't stop (L🤣L 6:10) laughing at you and your husband for I think that moment took the spotlight for minute. Keep doing what you do!!! Oh I wanted to ask where can I find a money can like that? I don't want to be able to see on the inside of it. Thanks for everything. Stay safe and Happy 2021 New Year!!!
My husband is most definitely a trip!! I purchased it on Amazon. Not being able to see in it was the main reason I purchased it. That and not being able to get to the money.
Congratulations!!! A very motivating video. Really like your savings bank and will be using one for my 52 week challenge. Do you have an Amazon affiliate link so I can give you credit for the purchase? Thanks
Awww Thanks. I really loved that tin bc once the money was in that was it. No dipping. No I don't have an affiliate link. I guess I should look into getting one.
@@LifeofKaydee I think you should since a lot of us are going to buy the tin because of you. Where did you get the blue savings jar you used for your birthday challenge?
We are saving for renovating the stairs. My husband says we do one thing every year. I use change money that i get from my old aunt and save a little from the leftover from that week. And we save for my daughter every week and every month for education so she will have enough for her future.
I have devised a unique savings plan, and that is to save 100 notes of every money denomination. So 100 notes of the ones, 100 notes of the fives and so on. By the time you do every denominations saving a hundred notes, you'll wind up with $18,600. I just started and all I have so far is 100 notes of the ones, and 100 notes of the Fives and started on the tens. Then once I accumulated 100 notes of a particular denomination, I'll put a money label around it. Can't wait to save. It's addictive.
People underestimate coins . I live in Europe, so I had a similar savings tin that I filled up with mostly 2 and 1 Euro coins . It was almost 4Kg ( 8.8 lbs ) heavy when I opened it and it was over 650 Euros worth ( almost 800$ US )
I just bought one like yours but im in Australia so it’s a different design compared to your $100 bills. I’m gonna be doing the $2 saving challenge for the next 3 or so years starting from January 1st 2023 until June 1st 2026 and also saving my recycling money

If you really want to be successful in life you must learn how to save no matter the amount you earn.
@Hugo louis Can you give me an idea on what I will invest with $5000 so that I won't spend it.
