I could be wrong but I noticed that you do a chain between each stitch on the first foundation row only. After that there is no chain between the stitch. That could pull the work in just a little. This pattern reminds me of a boa pattern that I purchased many years ago. I found that this stitch doubled over, was too thick to wear around the neck and I just wore a one sided version of the pattern.
Yes, with the exception of going from the first double crochet to the second double crochet there was a chain added between each stitch for the rest of the row. Great looking pattern though and easy to follow.

Just fine. I've washed my on wool setting 3 times and I layed my rug flat to dry.

I washed mine in the machine on wool settings then laid them out to dry. I didn't put them in the dryer.
