This is a perfect example of the fact that it doesn't matter if you speak the language or not, if it is sung from the heart it reaches the listener. It is even more powerful when you can watch it being sung from the heart.

    Paroles: Ne me quitte pas
    Il faut oublier
    Tout peut s'oublier
    Qui s'enfuit déjà
    Oublier le temps
    Des malentendus
    Et le temps perdu
    À savoir comment
    Oublier ces heures
    Qui tuaient parfois
    À coups de pourquoi
    Le cœur du bonheur
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Moi, je t'offrirai
    Des perles de pluie
    Venues de pays
    Où il ne pleut pas
    Je creuserai la terre
    Jusqu'après ma mort
    Pour couvrir ton corps
    D'or et de lumière
    Je ferai un domaine
    Où l'amour sera roi
    Où l'amour sera loi
    Où tu seras reine
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Je t'inventerai
    Des mots insensés
    Que tu comprendras
    Je te parlerai
    De ces amants-là
    Qui ont vu deux fois
    Leurs cœurs s'embraser
    Je te raconterai
    L'histoire de ce roi
    Mort de n'avoir pas
    Pu te rencontrer
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    On a vu souvent
    Rejaillir le feu
    De l'ancien volcan
    Qu'on croyait trop vieux
    Il est, paraît-il
    Des terres brûlées
    Donnant plus de blé
    Qu'un meilleur avril
    Et quand vient le soir
    Pour qu'un ciel flamboie
    Le rouge et le noir
    Ne s'épousent-ils pas?
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Je ne vais plus pleurer
    Je ne vais plus parler
    Je me cacherai là
    À te regarder
    Danser et sourire
    Et à t'écouter
    Chanter et puis rire
    Laisse-moi devenir
    L'ombre de ton ombre
    L'ombre de ta main
    L'ombre de ton chien
    Mais
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas
    Ne me quitte pas

I found this song, this exact same video when I was 16 years old (not even sure how, I just stumble onto this vid by accident) and even though I didn't understood the lyrics back then, I was amaze by how much emotion Jacques Brel pour into this song.
So I decide to look for more songs of Jacques and I found "La Chanson Des Vieux Amants" and when I looked for both lyrics I realized they were heartbreaking, unforgettable and quite unique, and I thought "I hope I never feel this way in the future".
Three years later I met the love of my life, with whom I've been in an Off and On relationship for so many years... I'll be 28 in a few weeks, and after all these years with her, I can said with some certainty, that I understand the true meaning of these songs, and it hurts.
Cecy, if you ever read this, even though that we only hurt each other, I just wanted you to know, that I wish you happiness in your life. You'll always be the love of my life, and the reason why Jacques Brel means the world to me.

She has moved on and will probably be married with someone else within a year or so... And I know that I have to move on as well, but I'd love to create a cover for this song, not to send a message or anything else, just as a landmark of something, sorry, someone important in my life.
And whoever is reading this, I wish you nothing but the best in your life, and hopefully you find a love that'll be healthy and nurture you into the best version of yourself.

Art and talent don't exist .. he said that the main purpose of life is making your dreams to become true and is what he worked hard for .. The talent is just working as hard as you can to make your dream become true .. Such an inspiring man .. Your song , your voice , your face and emotions really bring me to a different dimension ..Thank you Jacques and Rest in peace ..

    Do not leave me

    Il faut oublier

    Tout peut s'oublier

    Forget time
    Oublier le temps
    Misunderstandings

    Je te parlerai
    Of those lovers
    De ces amants-là
    who have seen twice
    Qui ont vu deux fois
    Their hearts ignite
    Leurs cœurs s'embraser
    I will tell you

That we thought was too old
    Qu'on croyait trop vieux
    He is it seems
    Il est, paraît-il
    scorched lands
    Des terres brûlées
    Giving more wheat
    Donnant plus de blé
    Than a better April
    Qu'un meilleur avril
    And when evening comes
    Et quand vient le soir
    For a sky to blaze
    Pour qu'un ciel flamboie
    The Red and the Black
    Le rouge et le noir
    Don't they marry each other?

My dad recently passed away. He introduced me to Brel and although my age group shouldn't find this particularly interesting, I was captured from the first moment I heard this man's voice. This song was one of, if not the favourite song of my father and hearing it reminds me of him. But moreso, seeing Brel's expressions in this video along with the memories and nostalgia, makes me cry every time. It brings out so much.

Des mots insensés : Words that make no sense. 4. Rejaillir le feu = fire reborn. 5. Qu'on croyait trop vieux / that we thought was too old. 6. Il est paraît-il / There is, it seems. 7. Pour qu'un ciel flamboie / For a sky to get ablaze. 8. The red and the black needs to marry. Very sad beautiful difficult song to translate! But bravo!

    [English]
    Do not leave me now
    We must just forget
    Yes, we can forget
    All that’s flown beyond
    Let’s forget the time
    The misunderstands
    And the wasted time
    To find out how
    To forget these hours
    Which sometimes kill
    The blows of why,
    A heart full of joy.
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    I offer you
    Pearls of rain
    Coming from the lands
    Where it never rains
    I will cross the world
    Till after my death
    To cover your bosom
    With gold and light
    I will make a kingdom
    where love will be king
Where love will be the law
    Where you will be queen
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now,
    Will invent for you
    The insane words
    That you’ll understand
    And I will tell you
    Of these lovers who
    Were seen twice
    With their hearts in blaze
    I will say in detail
    The story of this king
    Dead, from having not
    Encountered you.
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    One often recalls
    Flames light anew
    From an old volcano
    Thought to be too old.
    It appears that
    The scorched fields
    Can give more corn
    Than the best of springs.
    And when evening comes
    In this blazing sky
    The red and the night
    Marry nevermore.
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    I will cry no more
    I will talk no more
    Will hide somehow
    Just to look at you
    Dance and smile
    And to hear you
    Sing and then laugh
    Let me be for you
    The shadow of your shadow
    The shadow of your hand
    The shadow of your dog
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now
    Do not leave me now

I look at his face, his eyes, his infatuation, his sorrow, his devotion, his desperation, for a woman, for love, for one moment, I think the French is the most civilized people, people like that live for love, not hate, not destruction, well it's a transient feeling.
what's not transient is this is my fav french song, by far.
