I spotted an adult newt in my 2 year old pond recently and now suddenly I’ve got loads of baby newts! I feel they’re too small to pond dip at present, as I wouldn’t want to hurt them, can’t wait for them to get a tad larger! 🥰
this has been my local RSPB for years (its not right on my doorstep, but i can get to it in a car). i used to go at least once a month but had to stop from 2020, i have been back a couple times in the last two years, it is a nice place to be . i always find some small critter or another. tiny toads and all sorts. lovely. I hope to be back there soon.
I have had a pond in my garden for many years. The presence of in the region of 60 newts of all three types plus more than 40 dragon fly larvae plus great diving beetles, all of which are significant predators, has meant that no tadpole has ever survived more than a couple of weeks and any other small water creatures do not last very long.
I only made my pond 2 years ago and recently noticed a large newt in there, then, all of a sudden I’ve loads of tiny baby newts. Frogs used to visit but never spawned, I wonder if they detected the presence of the newts and this is why they choose not to visit any more, do you think…? I’ve a resident toad, however! 🤗
@@LouciferFlump Frogs used to spawn in my pond and it was often possible to count more than 20. For a number of years now to see frog spawn has been rare and very few frogs now visit. Perhaps they have been frightened away by the presence of newts and dragonfly larvae. With any ‘wildlife’ pond in a garden it is unfortunately not possible to get the balance of wild life found in a large natural pond.
What an amazing video to learn from, thank you!

I've had diving Beatles in the swimming pool where I used to live I would put them in the pond.
