MaximusBacon Well, one thing about Mat Zo is that he's incredibly good producer, no matter the style. Actually, I think he's among the most capable electronic music makers of these days. He's done quite a few different things, but all of those tracks are excellent and have his signature style. I totally get your sentiment though - those days had some really good music released, stuff that doesn't come out anymore.
Oh you’re right; the way he’s been able to not just keep up with the trends but set them himself is a testament to how talented he is. I suppose it’s just me selfishly lamenting about it because I just don’t get that enlightened (trance) feeling when I hear the music from this industry much any more. Yeah, I feel you man. There's something about Trance from the approx. 2005-2010 era thats magical, and for some odd reason stuff like that is not released anymore. There's huge amounts of music being released these days and lots of the stuff is unfortunately very formulaic. The "melodic techno" movement is gaining some traction though and there is some really good atmospheric music there. There's actually one recent track that that gave me the precious, long-lost trancy feeling: it's LTN's Remix of "Cold Summer" by Myon - check it out and let me know what you think!

Update: Listened to the song a couple times. You know, to get the groove of it. Just didn’t feel it, unfortunately. Honestly, it sounds like much of what I hear on Armin’s “State of Trance” anymore: just kind of there but nothing remarkable about it. Not to say it doesn’t have it! I don’t know, maybe I just didn’t evolve with the music. I thought about it some more and tried to think what recent songs there were that I still liked and I came up with a couple off the top of my head. Basically anything Above and Beyond still does/samples, like “1001” “Naked” and particularly the use of Sonny Lax’s “So long” and I really like Arty and Bayer’s “Follow the Light”. But, yea, the last couple sets of Above and Beyond’s Ultra sets have been amazing. Even “Mariana Trench” or their classic “Alchemy” (club mix) get me so riled up on the drop! A lengthy response so I apologize.

@Bt2BreakSkn Ye, Default is one of the best. For me, most of the A-Sides from his EPs are masterpieces. But, for me, the really best-of-the-best is Lucky Strike. So much energy, power, feeling in that track... it's unbelieveable! Mat Zoooooo rockzzz! :)
Back in the days, was this track rlly "released" ? I've been diggin for such a good time trying to find a "version" of this track with good audio quality but, I can't find anywhere. I've tried to review all mat zo releases back in the 2008~9 but, failed as well. Anyone still have this masterpiece in "at least" 320kbps mp3 ? Or even a .wav file ? This one should be kept in a very very very safe place for our future generations... such an amazing track.
Yeap, ur pretty right, he uses pretty similar sounds, FXs, hats, percuses, sometimes mixed on 4th beats with drumbreak (Rush, Default), then superb bassline and WOHOOO :D and thats the reason why I LOVE HIM :D :))) thx for great comment! :)
I'm just responding to the first part of your comment, as i totally aggree on the second part :) The normal baseline growin with more and more effects and so on, is the main characterics of the Trance genre :) This is what TRANCE is ALL ABOUT!

Yeah, this track is amazing, definitely one of my favourites from Mat Zo. Although it's old, I'm surprised that it never got more popular.
