As someone who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, I can assure you, the only people that pronounce Nevada with the "ah" sounds are either outsiders, people who want to sound fancy, or super old-school mobster types that have been around since the Strip was founded about 70-80+ years ago.
Conrad Skinner As far as I'm concerned, the pronunciation of places is determined by who lives there. I live in South Dakota, and the capital is Pierre. Even though it was founded by a Frenchman, we pronounce it like the word pier (like a dock). The word has evolved, and you can pronounce it like the name, but you will look stupid

I haven't actually met any Spanish individuals yet since I've been living here, so I can't really confirm whether or not they pronounce the state with the "ah" sounds.
In Massachusetts, there are a bunch of towns & streets with Olde English & Native American names. No one outside of the state pronounces them correctly. Even the the name “Massachusetts” is Algonquian. But I think it’s more hilarious than offensive when people butcher them.
