Man on the keys is who ties all together with both atmosphere, Identity and melancholy
Been listening to DT since Skydancer and We are the Void remains my personal favorite album of theirs, and Iridium is one hell of an album closer for an otherwise strong album. Have had the great joy of watching them play this song live. Pure magic.
One of the many
unique metal bands from Gothenburg, Sweden, known for their melodic death metal. Thank you for the reaction, interesting and good as always!
Character and Damage Done are mainstays in my car CD binder. Your viewer base is pretty solid.
Lost to Apathy and Hours Passed In Exile are two of DT's finest songs
There are a lot of really great melo death bands but DT has to be one of the most consistently great bands in the genre. Even their more experimental music is fantastic.
Absolutely love this song. "We Are The Void" is generally considered a weak album, perhaps the weakest one this band has released, but there are certainly some highlights like Arkhangelsk, Her Silent Language and this track here, which is the album closer. It does remind somewhat of their earlier instrumental track "Ex Nihilo", with an unsettling feel and apocalyptic lyrical content, definitely a great track from this band through and through. Do yourself a favor and check out the music video for this song, it's very stylized and reinforces the entire vibe of this song amazingly. Actually quite a lot of their music is like this, in one way or another - they're known for their moody vibes and in fact RYM gives some of their albums "gothic metal" as a secondary genre. They're not as melodramatic as Insomnium and not as raw in instrumentation as Be'lakor, atmosphere is definitely a strong point for them, and it's generally bleak, apathetic and pessimistic with occasional, rare rays of positive emotion shining through.
As for what "Iridium" is a metaphor for - it's a metal found in abundance on asteroids. This song is about a world-ending asteroid impact.
As for other songs, my recommendation would be Scar Symmetry - The Kaleidoscopic God
Thanks for the iridium explanation.
Never really understood why "We Are the Void" is viewed as a weak album by most. In my book it's their strongest one since Damage Done. And not topped since.
You should listen to pillars of sand by vektor, another good song from their terminal redux album
hey! could u react to turnabout - luctus mane? it is an experimental take on the witch house genre with rapping and screaming
