Power metal is the best kind of metal. Makes ya feel all fuzzy inside, and full of positive energy, at least until you get into viking or pirate metal, then you want to raid and plunder with a smile on your face. lol
as a DM guy, to me, power metal is as cheesy as it gets but that cheesiness is a large part of its charm. it's fun music full of over the top energy and imagination

Freedom Call is a fantastic band. They basically cram in as many incredible choruses into an album as humanly possible and publish it. Great way to feel better on a bad day.

No music taste is better, as terrible as we think the more mainstream music genres generally are. It's all opinions.
The mainstream music music taste is however mostly based on the fact that these people mostly do not know how other music sounds as they have probably never explored anything else.
See, it is not that subjective as you might think. The mainstream music genres are bad because they are not actually art. It is actually an industry, just as we produce plastic, wood etc., they produce music. They are just different copies of each other and doesn't have the deep feelings that an artwork has. For that reason, mainstream music genres, specifically pop music, isn't actually art. Thus, it does not contain any artistic value.

When it comes to the US, I've noticed that Power Metal specifically seems to be a genre that not a lot of Americans "get". They largely seem to be more into Thrash. Or Metalcore. Or straight-up Death Metal. The few American-based power metal bands I know of either consist largely of Europeans (e.g. Kamelot), or they are more there "for the quota". Avenged Sevenfold, for example, as famous as they may be, have never done anything that I haven't seen a European Power Metal band doing better before.
I don't know what it is - maybe people just need medieval castles around them to get inspired to make this kind of music! ;)
American Power Metal has a more "traditional" approach. Savatage, Iced Earth, Jag Panzer, Virgin Steele are my favorites

USA Freedom Caller here. I've listened to just about everything this country has to offer, and this is STILL, after 20 YEARS, my favorite band.
David DeFazio I also like some stuff by Unleash the Archers (they're Canadian, but American continent counts). But songs like "Tonight We Ride" are severely lacking in keyboards, as they would be required for that truly epic power-metal feeling which Freedom Call, DragonForce etc. deliver non-stop. Just guitars, bass, drums, and vocals often sounds too "dry". Also one of my main gripes with the German big player that is the band Rage, but I guess they wouldn't be considered power metal anyway. 🤔
Yeah not a lot of us get power metal. I like a lot of European bands like Helloween and Sabaton. Good stuff

When I remember that some of those who became metalheads in their teens are now in their seventies, and that metal is still going strong, I start imagining myself in the future as cool metalhead grandma. Teaching the kids about the heavy metal history will probably be cool.
