Kenny was brilliant! A voice with perfect pitch, an unbelievable vocal range...and he was a great guitarist! My favorite song of Kenny's is Silver Morning. I wish that someone had a live performance of it to post to UA-cam. He'll certainly be missed!
Awesome. I am here because of one of my favourite tracks of all time, which is 'Peaceful', a hit here in the UK many years ago. The lyrics to it were so good I looked up to see what I could find on this certain K Rankin, the guy who wrote it. I have just listened to his own version of Peaceful and was amazed at just how brilliantly good he was. Kenny had class and his guitar playing is matched only by his voice. So laid back and it's magic to the ears. It just goes to prove how serendipity can show you a singer that you would never of heard of only for the fact that he penned a classic with Peaceful. I'm probably your newest fan Kenny, so thanks for your wonderful voice and silky guitar chords. RIP mate.
I have been a big fan of his from way back...he used to appear on the Tonight Show with Carson quite often, and he was the opening act for George Carlin (of all people) because they were on the same label back in the 70's...Helen Reddy had a minor hit with "Peaceful" around 71/72, and that song was what attracted me to him as well. But his body of work is wonderful, especially "Silver Morning", "The Kenny Rankin Album" (w/orchestration by Don Costa - Frank's guy), and particularly "After The Roses". This album includes "What Matters Most", written by Dave Grusin as instrumental background for the movie, "The Champ". With lyrics added, it became the song that my first wife walked down the aisle to...and I cried to when she did...so I guess you'd say I have some sort of a connection - and a memorable one - to Mr. Rankin. Wonderful guitarist, unique singer, great selector of the modern songbook (G Harrison "while My Guitar...", Hendrix "Up From The Skies") as well as the standard... ,
He reminds me of Jose Canseco here. Where was he singing in this clip? It look like outside someone's house. What a perfect voice Kenny had. Wish I had gotten a chance to hear his bell clear voice live. Thanks for sharing this.

I Was very fortunate to see and hear Keny live in Reno many years ago. I will never hear another artist as talented as Kenny in my lifetime.

I totally agree rjc. No one can ever come close to Kenny's magic in music and voice. I miss him too and I also saw him so many times, I lost count !!!
I saw the one and only Kenny Rankin in a small club in Portland - mid 70s - so intimate. Proof positive that the talent did not lie just in the studio
