The Union parties have won the European elections in Germany, reaching 30%. The AfD is the second strongest force with 16.4%. The Greens and the SPD suffered massive losses. The Sahra Wagenknecht coalition achieved 6.1% from a standing start. The election results reflect a clear strengthening of the political fringes. The traffic light parties have been hit particularly hard, suffering a bitter defeat. Ursula von der Leyen is seeking another term as Commission President.
