  • The Karam festival is a harvest festival celebrated in Jharkhand and other Indian states, including West Bengal, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. It is dedicated to Karam-Devta, the god of youth, power, and youthfulness, and is celebrated for good health and harvest.
The festival is celebrated on the 11th day of the full moon in the Hindu month of Bhado, which falls between August and September.
Unmarried girls fast and grow seedlings for a few days, and then young villagers collect wood, fruits, and flowers from the jungle for the puja. People sing and dance together, and the entire valley dances to the drumbeat "day of the phases".
A special dance called the Karam dance is performed during the festival.
The festival is celebrated by many different groups of people, including the Munda, Ho, Oraon, Bagal, Baiga, Binjhwari, Bhumij, Kharia, Kudmi, Karmali, Lohra, and Korwa.
