The 8 would have held. But it would have created one critical point versus two truly Independent lines coming off of the tree. The goal is to have two lines AND redundancy. Hope that explains it well.
The carabiner will never be loaded due to the friction of the wraps. It's more of a placeholder in this configuration. But yeah, we should avoid cross-loading carabiners.

Looks all good except for the Caribiner being cross loaded against the tree. Bad practice. Use a shackle or steel quick link instead.

You know, I can't remember other than it is static and 10.8 mil. I bought it several years ago and it just escapes me. Sorry but thanks for watching.
