Porto Koufo, Sithonia, Halkidiki, Greece

One of the oldest natural harbors of Greece is located right on the Sithonia arm of the Halkidiki peninsula and bears the name of Porto Koufo. you can find it in the south of Toroni resort and it can be the ideal place to go if you plan to enjoy green surroundings and emerald sea water.
Described by the historian Thucydides in the 5th century BC as the safest port of Ancient Greece.
The port of Koufo has been used since ancient times for various purposes, and during the Second World War it was used by the Germans as a base for submarines, thanks to the great depth of the water.
The name means, in translation, "DEAF PORT", as it is assumed that the place is so well hidden that the sea cannot be heard from the port.
