Dear UL Power. I am duly impressed. I'm former aviation industry, MFI Malmö Flygindustri - Sweden), now IT... Found that there is one of our aircraft MFI 9, but in the home build version, that has your engine. To put it plainly, you are a breath of fresh air in this section. Best Greetings Rudolf Abelin Former technical manager MFI
After seeing Jon Humberd's UL Powered Zenith Zenith 701, UL looks like a really good option for Sport Pilot Planes. They are expensive engines but they are supposed to be lighter and there is a dealer fairly close to me so that's another plus.
Wow Dan... this guy made your job easy! 😆 Really great info and interview! I'm dreaming of a Zenith CH 750 CruZer build and weighing my engine options. 👍
Has ULPower eliminated the problems with hypereutectic pistons, widely varying cylinder bore dimensions, spark plug fouling, and a complete lack of QC? I am very interested in the UL350is for my rv12is. But, it is widely known the issues I bring up. What has UL done to eliminate these issues? The Rotax 912is will not be used on my aircraft. Edge Performance possibly will! I want to know if ULPower has addressed their issues, and if so, is it throughout their entire product line. The UL350IS is the powerplant I want to use. But I will not be using it if there is no consistency in cylinder wall clearance, no forged pistons, and a fuel map that runs so rich it fouls plugs.
I'm watching these issues as well and am currently undecided between the 260 and 350. I thought the spark plug fowling was due to lead, not fuel and that lead deposits are also a problem on the valves. Like you, I'd like to know I can trust this substantial investment to serve me well, for a long time.
I thought hypereutectic castings were next-level technology, where the silica forms wear pads in the piston skirts to greatly reduce friction and extend TBO. The batch injection concept with pools of standing fuel sounds like a bad choice for any kind of engine with performance goals loftier than a garden tractor.
Im guessing you have never owned an airplane / engine nor lived with their exceptional reliability wherein the concerns you state are null .. match fuel to engine and fly
Are these issues when running with mogas or avgas 100LL or similar? They have warnings in their manuals about 100LL which references increased deposits in combustion chamber, sedimentation in lubrication system and wear on valve and valve seats if you run 100LL. You also need to change out oil and use a special oil if you are going to be doing AVGAS 100LL.
There are definitely disadvantages teaming up with big companies, high overheads and lots of share holders to please. Your engine have not really broke any new grounds in cost. I am glad the high RPM been fixed, it is not so suitable for slow airplanes.Air cooling is simpler, but make inferior cabin heater, I froze enough in leaky 172 to know I want liquid cooling if I can.
Hahahaha! Finally someone who can out talk Dan!
Tickled to see UL making such progress!
Too funny. What a powerful (and light) engine. Can't wait to visit them at Oshkosh next month!

Love my ul350is. I’ve had 3 in different planes. 2 z750’s and a sonex. Amazing power and reliability.
I'm interested in building a sonex with 350is. Is your build documented online? thanks
Glad I ran across a video of the airplane I want to build that uses your engines.
New poweplants, very good!
Great video… Very informative… Thanks!

Looks great competition for Rotax on the way.... good for prices....
Nice emgine
UL Power rules !!!!!
Does this new ul520t use fadec...I heard something about an ecm
I've got a question for anyone kind enough to answer. I'm an older old school pilot and have heard of LSA before, but what is ALSA ???
SLSA-Special Light Sport Aircraft
are these the ones that quit on take off?
$22,000 for 97 hp no thanks

I find it hilarious when yanks talk about not having a carburetor as though ECU's are a new thing.
Make a 10kg turbofan jet. Operation clean sweep. Until we have UFO disclosure, then all bets are off.
Why do they use Automotive type spark plug instead of Aircraft Type, seem like your just encouraging a boot to pop off.
