Polyester tends to handle sunlight better - but that’s about *all* it does better, in my (limited) experience. It doesn’t have nearly the strength or abrasion resistance, so if you are really hard on your stuff, like I am - go nylon.
Polyester also absorbs less water which often makes it stretch less and can be lighter when wet. Preference will strongly depend on the application and on the fabric.
