There you have it folks.... Bobby Sheehan defining how to play bass. Unbelievable bass player. Anyone who knows anything about playing bass will tell you how amazing this performance is. Man, he is sorely missed.
@@Steubenville_PoPo Disrespectful? What are you talking about? John Popper IS an amazing harmonica player, but there are other amazing musicians in the band, like Bobby Sheehan. This particular performance by him is insanely good. RIP Bobby Sheehan
@@Steubenville_PoPo What a silly comment. Why couldn't someone give this fantastic bass player a compliment. It's a band you know, not everything is about John Popper, who ofcourse is one of the best harmonica players ever, doesn't mean his fellow band members aren't cool either.
Great Band! Just saw Kingpin....never heard of these guys! Amazing bassplayer, amazing harmonicaplayer ....what a solo!!!! I'm gonna check them out....Just love this band..!!!
Back in the 90s, we serviced John's Jeep when he lived in Quakertown Bucks County, Pa. We got on the subject of Stevie Ray Vaughn, and then Hendrix. John told me how much he loved Hendrix. John was always great to talk with.
FrustratedNameSearch At least he got to play bass here. Their first Letterman appearance was just John and Chan playing w/WMDB. Second time, Bobby played acoustic guitar 'cause Will Lee wouldn't give it up.
They weren't the same after releasing 4. They made their deal with the devil for money, and it showed in the cover of that album. Gone was the increasingly ambitious ideas and the thoughtful lyrics. 4 wasn't terrible, but it did not build upon what had gone before as the other three had. Perhaps Bobby was the soul of the band, which is why he could not abide the direction it had taken. Or perhaps I look too deeply into something that once meant so much to me.
Stevie Wonder and John Popper are my favorite Harmonica players. Stevie is killer on chromatic and popper kills the blues. I didn't realize this song was that old until recently, they really killed it with this track.
They probably exist, but Popper was the first person I ever heard play the harmonica so precise and fast, yet intentional. It doesn't even sound like the harmonica I was used to hearing. Most people hit multiple notes which don't necessarily go together, all sloppily, but it is like popper plays the harmonica like a saxophone.
Bobby Sheehan is one of the most underrated bass player in music. Sad he died so early in life. I agree that Popper didn't come ready to preform in this video. The bass line in this song will always be memorable.
A local station played side 1 of their first album at midnight way back in the day. They were on my radar after that and when the same station played the same side again I knew I had to buy the album. It's weird, but knowing there are these kind of people out there doing their thing makes the world seem a more inviting place and encourages you to do your thing as well. I picked up on a scene for the first time in my life, and it was a special part of my life.
JOHN rocks this thing it is a known FACT! he is the best harp player in the history of the world he plays like 2 munites straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u go john good luck on ur next consert ill try to make it there (= your fan evan
To be honest, almost the entire song is a bass solo. He is probably the most impressive musician during this number, but the TV show doesn't seem to care.
Ohh, I love the harmonica. Damn shame that they didnt turned the screen to the bassplayer when he played. He has an amazing bass tones...well, the whole group is really fun to watch.
Yeah but in all fairness his solo didn't deviate all that much from the normal bass line he was carrying...a testament to what a great bass player he was.
remember hearing this song after a pitcher or two I forget...lost track and being numb at the beauty of it. it's like he watched me for the past semester. shaking hands doesn't really nail it, but I don't hate her. I wasnt' ready for a relationship at the time. I was probably ready for a Gatorade and a nap
¡Enhorabuena a "The Blues Traveler".

Bass? When have you heard a harmonica sound like that? Seriously man that was disrespectful to say the least. Bass?
Legend...
@@Steubenville_PoPo Bobby Sheehan is the bass player. The singer/harmonica player is John Popper

If John had never sung one tune, he would still be famous for playing an absolutely smoking mouth harp! How can one person have so much talent?
Man did we loose a great talent when Bobby Sheehan died. It's a crying shame. Best melodic bassist I ever heard.
Bass playuer is insane good...love these guys!
Great Band! Just saw Kingpin....never heard of these guys! Amazing bassplayer, amazing harmonicaplayer ....what a solo!!!! I'm gonna check them out....Just love this band..!!!
John Popper. The Hendrix of the harmonica.

The bass carrys this tune. His tone is amazing.
even though his bass is amazing,it would just sound like good bass without the tight fucking ass drummer.and this is coming from a guitarist
good performance. looks like he's using a Hartke and Mesa...no wonder he's got a punchy bass.
Sad part is Bobby didn't get camera time even during his solo. This guy had magic fingers on the Bass. RIP Bobby.
FrustratedNameSearch At least he got to play bass here. Their first Letterman appearance was just John and Chan playing w/WMDB. Second time, Bobby played acoustic guitar 'cause Will Lee wouldn't give it up.
this song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it...
bobby sheehan was such a great bassist, cat grooved like nobody's business
Oh how I love blues traveler. Great song and what an harmonica player he is
Master virtuoso on harmonica...he plays amazing
The bass player is a badass!
Popper was the flash, but Bobby was the soul of this band. They were never the same after he was gone.
You got that right.
Nailed it. They are still one of my favorites but they'll never be the same.
You know what's really sad is Bobby couldn't buy a damned closeup :(
Amen dude. I am still a huge fan but they had the magic groove with Bobby.

John Greene same with me!!!! I just watched it. LOL
He is impressive. Enjoy the beat. Good rythem.
Bobby was a beast... in the same league as Mingus.
EXCELLENT SKINSMAN
I love the way that everyone ignores the insane harmonica song
Tell me that Hohner Special 20 harp can't walk the dawg in the right hands. Popper is a master of the instrument
@DeathByBass1 the bassist was Bobby Sheehan may he RIP, great comment !!!
Awesome!. Chan is Canadian! Brendan, Limey:)
Ohh, I love the harmonica.
Damn shame that they didnt turned the screen to the bassplayer when he played. He has an amazing bass tones...well, the whole group is really fun to watch.

This guy is C.A.F. he makes that harm sing n talk like it woz alive.
COOLASFXXK i tells ya.
I saw Kingpin last night reminded me these guys exist..but anyway lol
What a fucking bass player. Fucking drugs. Bobby Sheehan, you were a master musician.
Yeah but in all fairness his solo didn't deviate all that much from the normal bass line he was carrying...a testament to what a great bass player he was.
Ah, I really dig the song at this tempo.
KINGPIN BABY!!!! HEZEKIAH MUNSON!!!
Blues will never be a happy form of musical emotion than what the Traveler provides.
Couldn't be more incorrect
eat your heart ut charlie mccoy this dude is good on the harmonica
We are finding the way. Follow in the footsteps.
JP is the man
That's true. Last week he defeated me. But I'll be back!
Check out the song Sweet Pain here on youtube...best song, the singer just pours his soul out. It will touch you I promise!
Little known fact: Popper is also the current World-Wide Cunnilingus Champion...
I lost my marbles in the middle of this song somewhere.
Ah, this is the "amish" band of kingpin. Thumbs up
@mrmjg20 no. i was asking what like talk show they played it on.
que sebado la harmonica!!

and you look back and say, "Damn, that girl was fine. I fucked up." Purdue 1989.
I still love this song.
Remember when you heard this music on the radio - Instead of the bullshit they put out now?
I agree with DeathByBass below me as well. The bass player rips it up and down for the whole song, and he gets minimal camera time.
Good job from the camera man to focus on everyone but the bass player during the bass solo! 🙄
ace harp ace band underrated xx
@DeathByBass1 one of the cameramen I'm sure got the shot but is the editors fault we didn't see it
Best blues ever. It should probably be called "glads" and not blues :)
Everyone got their moment on camera during their "in the groove", except Bobby. Typical for Bassists.
@rdety Did he have a 55Gallon drum of popcorn on a dolly?
Absolutely. I don't think that even if I spent my life trying I would be able to play or sing as well as him.
theme song to meeting somebody special

I agree, it's usually just pure ignorance. Usually the only people that can appreciate a great bass player are other bass players or drummers!
John is so amazing I sometimes wonder if he's part alien
dude can damn sure play that harm..he's so fast it almost sounds like the thing has keys.
