I happen to catch that show that night, and it was the first time ever seen him. This song alone, spoke to my heart, and brought tears to my eyes, and I have not stopped listening to it cents such a beautiful song.
It's is sooo beautiful 😍 I heard a Nigerian 🇳🇬 actor singing it from a movie 🎬. Then I heard it again on vacation in my birthplace of Barbados 🇧🇧 I did not understand but I Googled and he said in essence said what you love, is not what I love! What I love I will do with all my heart ❤️
What is it about the Yoruba language that makes it so sweet to the ears??? Even when you dont understand the language, it just blends into any musical instrument. Nigerian music has got me in a chokehold❤
Yoruba Language is very tonal. When we talk, you will think we are singing. Yoruba speaks English in a Yoruba tone. Its very funny especially when the market women attempt it. With that in mind, now imagine it in a musical form. Even the way Asake started the song "isss lonely at the tooop" its like a typical yoruba saying english words. Rhythmic.
When I heard this for the very first time couple of months ago, it hit different and today here we're with a Grammy nomination and also performing live at the Late Show with one of my favorite night show host. Proudly African!
This is indeed a work of art, instrumentation, ✅, Lyrical content ✅, Lyrical flow, ✅, BVs ✅, In fact, everything is just on point. Asake you won a fan. Great masterpiece. Nigeria is proud of you, Africa is proud of you.
It was mesmerizing. However, I often wonder why more attention is not paid to the musicians behind the scenes; the Drummer, Guitarist, Organist and Percussionist who brought all together in such brilliant production. I imagined this tune in complete instrumental performance. I was equally intrigued by the background singers angelic voices. Of course, ASAKE as the head performer coordinated it brilliantly as well including his choice of costume. The African storytelling prowess obviously nailed it. Like a Japanese friend said, "Even if you cannot understand any African language, the music speaks to you in magical ways" As an Afro-Brazilian, I wholeheartedly agree.
Even though our stupid and wicked politicians are setting Nigeria 🇳🇬 back ....we know that one day and soonest Nigeria will be one on a green valley...God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬 and her indigenous
