  • I honestly do not know what has happened. For unknown reasons, Lutterworth Road has been gridlocked, with it taking 30 minutes just to get from Wigston Lane to Blaby Shopping Centre.
Luckily, I had a decent DB250 to endure the struggle, and it was 4762, which was on the 85 to South Wigston. Even without being biased, this was the smart decision. I was originally going to go for 4102, as Olympuses are hard to get on this route, and they were supposed to have moved on by now due to the arrival of the new MMCs, but nothing has been listed, not even on buslistsontheweb, but that filled up to the max. We’d just overtaken it at Northfield Park when I started recording this video and when I stopped to get off, it had only reached the end of the Southway.
Thankfully, once we’d cleared the jams, this driver was not messing around, as I’m sure this video shows.
Bus news now and since the last upload, 4101 has transferred to Derby following confirmation the MMCs will be replacing the Olympuses rather than the DB250s (if they ever get here), and 4759, my favourite, has transferred to Aylesbury. I think 4107 has also left as it hasn’t ran since the 9th.
4416-4425 are also expected to transfer to Yorkshire to replace the Lowlanders, including 4737. Hopefully that gets preserved so then we have a Euro 2 and a Euro 3. The transfer makes sense with the 47 and 48 going electric next year I suppose.
With First, 69249-69252 have now left to becoming training vehicles, while 33710, 33712 and 33720 have transferred to Somerset. Additionally, 35170 has finally had that bloody Google advert removed.
Moving onto Kinch, and following the withdrawal of the 2 between Leicester and Sileby, 901 has had its branding tweaked, while 906 is now a spare. 903-905 have been rebranded for the 9, which has seen the end of the Solars at Kinchbus. At the time they had 638 and 649-652.
Nationwide, First have continued the order of their new low height StreetDecks, with the latest batch ordered for the Potteries, so I imagine this will see the end of 32066, 32067 and the remaining ex-Leicester Geminis (32643 was already withdrawn back in January). Sticking with ex-Leicesters, 66820 and 66968 have been withdrawn from Doncaster, and are currently awaiting disposal, joining 66843, which went in January. Additionally, 4002 and 4011 have become the 4th and 5th ex-Arriva Leicester B7TLs to go to the scrapyard.
First have also announced plans to withdraw completely from Southampton in February, which is a disappointment, as I quite like their CityRed livery. It suited the StreetDecks quite well, and they’ve just transferred a batch from Bristol. My guess is they’ll go to Portsmouth and go in the Solent livery, which is yet to be seen on StreetDecks.
Onto more positive news, there’s a newly preserved Trident ALX400 I’ve got my eyes on hoping to see soon, and that is First’s 33379 (LK53 EYY). Anyone who’s been for a Somerset bash will know how good that is. It’s been bought by the Bromley Bus Preservation group, who already own a fine collection of London vehicles.
