"Ama-la's Story: A Tibetan Refugee Comes to New York" is the story of 81-year-old Choe Dolma, a refugee from Ngari (Western Tibet) who now lives in Elmhurst, Queens. After a difficult adjustment period in America, she found a community that is both new and familiar at the Sherpa Monastery in Queens, run by the Himalayan Elders Project.

oh Ama la is such a lovely woman, how I miss those Tibetan elders. I would love to come to a place such as this elder house and do whatever help I can. I know this video is 2 years old but it speaks to my heart. I spent 4 yrs in McleodGanj HP India exile home of the Dalia Lama & I speak conversational "street" Tibetan in mostly Khampa dialect. I will have to try to contact them.
