Appreciate how humble you are. One thing you kept saying is how lucky you were outside of farming. I know you’re trying not to brag on yourself but be sure to give yourself credit, hard work trumps luck almost every time. You’ve busted your butt to get here; enjoy it.
That says volumes about you that you explain to the younger people that your farming operation isn’t totally funding your equipment purchases. Social media makes it look like it’s easy to get new equipment, and if you aren’t driving newer equipment then you’re not successful. every operation is different, and has to be tailored to the individuals finances.. amount of ground, outside income, rent vs owned, etc.. there’s a lot of variables. It’s probably a lot harder to get started today than it was 41 years ago when I started. I already liked your channel, but I like it even more knowing how you are so up front, and how you clarify your business. Great channel!
You bought in my opinion, the best front wheel assist tractor deere ever made, 30series reliably, with R series comfort. ILS and power shift for a smooth ride and reliability, you didn't go wrong there buddy. And no emissions!
Idk about reliable. Our 8310r needed a full engine overall at 7,000 hours and nothing but sensor problems everywhere. His only has 4,000 so that tractor will last a long time before it needs anything major.
@@brettk5762 That's a very different tractor compared to what grant bought. The 2nd year of the R series was the first real year that mechanical updates were made to the 30 series
I love your videos always, especially your present explanation of you financial structure which totally makes sense and clarifies it for you younger viewers, I am a 70 yrs old , retired farmer who went thru the whole farming cycle , owning, developing and improving out farm over 38 yrs from australia :) cheers Fred
It's really nice to finally see another video after so long. I have followed you from day one because you put out good content, please make more. Great purchase on the 8320, game changer for you.
No emissions and a powershift, great purchase Grant! I'd argue the powershift is a much better option than IVT, with IVT you will end up replacing it at some point.
But he’s also gonna ruin the tractor completely if the tile plow is as big as the tractor, when I say as big I mean in height like one of them big ones. That power shift will get ruined, I personally love power shift tractors because their easy to drive and shifting is excellent but putting it on a tile plow will absolutely ruin that tractor
@ still, having a front wheel assist on a tile plow is a bad choice to begin with, quad tracks are the way to go because the power shift will absolutely ruin the gears on that thing
Tip for you Grease grease grease the ILS ever other day if being used all day! Another check to do in the ils to make sure the accumulators are good is to put it in gear and you should be able to get the front end to bounce up and down with moving the throttle up and down. If not you will need accumulators
🔩 Loved the detailed explanation on how the weights are set up-it’s fascinating to see the effort that goes into balancing these machines for peak performance! ⚖🌾
Atta boy !!! First gen 8r same as us. Best looking series Deere made same hood as 30 series. No government crap. 9 liter power tech. Ours is a 8320r to. Torque for days in those girls. You’ll be very happy with that unit !
I love your new tractor Grant, I speak from personal experience, it's always better to have more tractors if you can afford them than to have to try and rely on one tractor to do everything when you've got a lot of land to farm
I ran a John Deere 8320 (non R) for the guy I worked for and that thing was a beast, the growl as it worked and the speed at which it flew down the road was exhilarating.
@@TLPH04 no sir. 8320 sounds right by the word growl as that was the last tractor with absolutely zero emissions installed and that 8.1 motor has a growl to it. Next series older that. 8330
Good luck with your new tractor. Having owned one of those you will want to have the cooling fan drive checked, and make sure you grease the front C.V. joints by removing the plugs and installing a zerk . also use caution changing the tires. The front and rear are matched by the diameter with I believe gear in the transmission. I would ask Deeres service department before doing it. Again, the best of luck to you.
Get 54s for the rear. If it’s ever on a cart you’ll love the extra height for loading trucks. Also grease that front ILS every morning of use. That front end is extremely expensive to put parts into.
Great commentary. I appreciate your explanation of startup vs income. You’re doing things with a lot of passion and your experience will ultimately payoff. I built my place similarly around Council Bluffs. Off farm capital with my willingness to work has afforded me to have an Angus farm. Keep the videos coming. Looking forward to seeing where you’re at in ten years.
A great purchase grant, and yes the air conditioning in those are annoyingly loud even on the softest setting. But other then that they are a great tractor
Being versatile was also very smart. We always get asked (black angus family farmer here) why don’t you guys buy a swather. Well it makes more sense buying new tractors that can do multiple task vs buy a one trick pony. Maybe down the road when we increase the herd more and need to dispose of more income but for now it makes no sense.
Hi Grant. If that tractor has a Gen 3 touch screen command center, it will run Autotrac, section control and rowsense. If it's a real early non touch, you can swap a touch one into it. You'll just need an unlock for autotrac. If you want one, I have a used unlock code for about 1/3 of a new one. Also have a used touch display. The unlocks are interchangeable with a 2630.
Every Peterbilt & KW I bought over the years has always barely made it to the fuel stop after leaving the dealer. The new Freightliner I got last year had over 1/2 a tank on both sides, that was a nice change, I think it’s just because it was driven through.
Having the ivt would have been amazing if you got the chance, every way around especially for your planting purposes. Also to help with ur planter drift problems you had when it pulls one way, putting another globe on the planter solves that issue.
Speaking from experience, the power shift will serve you better in the long run. The IVT can have issues at higher hours. IVT’s are great but costly to fix.
Spraying with front duals is going to be costly. If you’ve got your tractor weighted heavy it kinda makes sense to just leave it as your tillage tractor and use your other tractor to spray and plant. If you can get another wagon for it you’ll also help out your harvest speed. Nice work on the tractor addition!
Make sure the intake filter in the roof for the fans is clean there a lot louder if there not clean. If you ever start getting water dripping out of the roof or vents to with ac it’s the drain lines coming down from the roof are plugged they come out at the front right corner post outside just blow air back up through it and it’ll be good and drain properly again.
I think you and Spencer need to build a grain bin on your property. Driving to the elevator multiple times a day must be a time drain when you are trying to get harvesting done. It will also allow you to sell your crop when prices are best.
If you’re primarily going to be using that for the tile plow and tillage I’d leave the wider rubber on the tractor and save your money. Going to have a bigger footprint and be able to put more of that weight to the ground
From what I’ve gathered tile plow is one of the main applications or best use case for IVT… I have one… otherwise I’d take a powershift for the cheaper rebuild
Congrat !!!!!!! Grant Christmas came very early this year ! :D that was also pretty much needed with another stronger machine ! :D Not that I not love the 8110 but this is a huge ! serious upgrade in 1.st class ! :P so congrat with this upgrade CANT ! wait to see it in use :) best regards from Denmark :)

Grant what other jobs do you and your brother have outside of farming. Smart move staying away from a newer model. Great to see your brother doing better with his leg.
Sweet tractor, i ran a 8330 for a summer and loved it. But now im running. Fendt, which those things run 35 down the road. Which its pretty nice while running a double bale stacker
Usually when you sell equipment such as tractors and trucks you put in enough fuel for test drives and etc. Mostly it’s just an act of courtesy. Anyways nice tractor Grant
I think the pre def 8r is a hard tractor to beat. Only trouble we’ve ever had with ours is the front drive shafts in the ILS and that wasn’t an issue until 3500 hours or so. That 9 liter is a great engine in my opinion
And before you spend the time putting more weight on I would try the plow without the extra weight. Those 3 point tile plows pull down really good on a tractor so the extra weight may not help at all
Appreciate how humble you are. One thing you kept saying is how lucky you were outside of farming. I know you’re trying not to brag on yourself but be sure to give yourself credit, hard work trumps luck almost every time. You’ve busted your butt to get here; enjoy it.
