I think this is the first UA-cam Original show I've seen from beginning to the end. It was cheesy at some places, but informative, nicely shot, sometimes heartbreaking (the Tim Shaw story had me in tears), and even had some stuff for those like me who knew some about this stuff already that was new (like the crop monitoring from satellite images, or the AI assisted organic food taste research system). Very well done, RDJ narrated it fantastically. I'm here for a second season if that's being considered.

21:28 Daphne Koller nailed it when she said we are a long ways away from building an AI that is sentient like us, it's all very well to have some puppet mimic human behavior that is dead simple compared to replicating something like ourselves. The truth is, the part of the brain that houses all the magic, the sense of awareness, the mind, the self, the outer part known as the cerebral cortex, is exceedingly complicated. If you are thinking that say 100 billion neurons can be replicated by 100 billion transistors you would be hopelessly wrong. The trouble is, neurons are not just an on-off switch, they are analog, can have up to one hundred inputs and one output, they are pliable, dynamic things that would need possibly billions of transistors if you wanted to truly duplicate a neurons behavior, rather than just condensing it's function into a set of rules and algorithms .these tiny units are alive, and in trying to duplicate their function on silicon, we may well loose some ineffable quality of life, or sentience.
