love that you took the time to create this content on your trip!
Cheers buddy! Yeah it was quite a lot to be honest and I underestimated it a little - next year I will probably take it a little easier. :)
I can follow Miles in his argumentation and understand his reluctance well ...
FUNC+No is for me a very essential function of the ELEKETRON devices that I own.
FUNC+No expresses the whole creative potential of the machines from Sweden.
Much is created by trial and error, by trying things out.
FUNC+No gives me the opportunity to return to the starting point and try again. And exactly this, the designing, the trying out, the approaching, that is the most beautiful thing.
Despite the many fascinating possibilities, about 1000 euros is too much for me. If FUNC+No is possible, then I would certainly buy the HEAT +FX....
Exactly that. I can see eg with my Mother-32 that I'm experimenting way less as it is quite hard to restore the initial state. So I really hope this will come to the +FX especially when new models will be added in the future which then of course encourages for even more experimentation.
Nice! squeezed in a question about updates. AR mkii 🤞
Cheers Matthias! Crossing my fingers for you. :)
Perfect example how minimal setup can make maximal impact. Excellent work, keep it up 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you so much Silvio! Very happy to hear that 💚🙏🏻
Good vid and questions Miles 👍
Thanks a bunch for the feedback Jon - happy to hear. 💚
extremely good suggestions by the interviewer.
Thanks for the feedback Marco!
Good rundown and interview! I feel similar about the Heat+FX, looks like a great unit and I would love to have one really, but I kind of struggle to think of proper use case in most scenarios. A quick load would be a great addition as you say! Especially as they have marketed it as "no longer set and forget, but stay and play", if they want you to be "playing" with the parameters, it's kind of hard without being able to return to a "safe" place.
Yeah 100% agree on that, same issues I have still with it. But the good news is that they are very open to user feedback with this device. Over the days I talked to a couple of people from Elektron and they were all asking immediately for feedback and taking it very seriously. Also which new digital modules in the device users would like to see next, which is nice. So to me it seemed a little like "We will bring this to the market to test how our users react and what they want to further see on it and then work on that". It has great potential but it isn't fully unleashed I think.
I have the 100% use case. It's not for everyone by any means. I've ordered one.
I have a Mk1 analog heat and Korg Kaoss Pad Quad. I was considering the upgrade but my set up is better and cheaper (when buying used) because I can do exactly what you said, I can get crazy and funky, and then basically undo it all to go back to the original sound. Only negative is that I have 2 boxes instead of 1.
I would consider upgrading if the FX had been a little fancier instead of plain digital FX. I'd love something like the analog heat with a microcosm combined into one to get some really delicious sounding textures.
Yeah that was also my idea and in my head I always compared it to my Microcosm. But as I already have this as a sound design box, the +FX right now isn't on top of my list.
Thanks Miles for all the sharing.!
It's always nice to see new Elektron stuff, but I agree that this kind of device will be hard to place in my setup! I will go for a Simple Analog Heat just to get a warmer sound! I will not sure what to do with the extra reverb and delay at the end of the signal !
Thanks Olivier! And yeah agree, that was exactly my thought too. With something like "func + no" I'd get it because then you could easily use the verb and delay for nice transitions and go wild on your signal before going back to a safe state but like it is now I would be a little affraid to do so.
Excellent! 10:00 I agree with your explanation regarding hybrid setup except that you can’t duplicate the analog engine within Ableton.
Thank you! And yeah very good point, that is of course true. :)
@@MilesKvndra also, most of time, I find that there is much less latency outside of Ableton. I am also using a hybrid setup with Ableton being my main tool but I love to tweak and experiment out of it
@@vagueversatile yeah see that. However, since I moved all the sequencing capabilities from the Elektrons to Ableton, the latency is gone for me. Of course you loose the great Elektron sequencer but tbh the Ableton one is also pretty cool with the new probability options
@@MilesKvndra nice! you don’t want to swap your Elektron boxes for synths then?
@@vagueversatile I’m my recent setups I already excluded the Digitakt to keep it more compact and move some of the sampling into Ableton. But still using the Takt standalone and will definitely keep the Digitone :)
Thanks Miles for the Interview!
I would love to see another stereo input on the heat + fx and (hold your legs) a crossfader!
A Scenario I have in mind:
Use a stereo pair of the unit for a Digitakt/Digitone/Syntakt Chain. Use the other inputs in a Mono Mode for 2 more Instrument Inputs. Maybe a Bassline or Analog Lead Synth, Apply the FX, use some EQ, Compression and glue everything together with the analog warming unit of the heat.
And then you can perform the FX during breakdowns or transitions with the Knobs and the Crossfader
THAT just in 1 Box would literally make this device the most powerful Mixer in the world
But to be a product on the market, it has to be full of flaws and holes, only marginally useable at all so it seems, with thousands, if not tens of thousands of people on forums asking for exactly the same few basic and obvious features. I just don't get the whole thing of manufacturing. I must be missing something.
That’s actually a really nice concept Gruftgrabbler. I would also rather have a performance mixer built in to do a little more performance wise. Also sad that the unit doesn’t have a sequencer.
@@MilesKvndra oh yeah and a sequencer! I think that would fit wonderful into the Elektron repertoire. The Octatrack (which is for me a bit outdated) would still be the Octatrack. Doing what it is the best. A great performance sampler
The heat could then add more spatial fx and provide compression, and saturation.
Yeah but now it’s too late and we would need of cause for years for an eventually heat + fx mk2
The Octatrack with EZBOT’s template is very close to what describe. Maybe a larger form factor and no real distortion and saturation, but you get everything else without even having to properly learn the device. 😊
It seems that it would be fairly trivial to add more LFOs (and envelopes)
Let's hope they do 💪
I really hope they add more depth to this machine in general. Although I have to say 3 LFOs with 2 destinations each is already pretty nice!
@@MilesKvndra
True. My multiple LFO and looping envelope dreams are more grandiose than average, admittedly 🫠👍
@@asynchronicity I like that! Keep on dreaming and never stop hoping 😁
With an osmose, yeh
Hey dirk, don't quite get the comment - what are you referring to?
i love the heat... but the price tag scares me.... nearly every elektron box is 1k+
Yup, but also, the Digitakt is an “old” device, but still gets massive updates. So the boxes keep getting better every year. They’re built like tanks too.
@@profitsandloss yeah they got me twice... with 2 digitones.. :) but since they increased the prices so massive.... i am little bit frustrated :D the last time i've bought an elektron device it was 650 and now the same device is 950.
Yeah it’s crazy to see all the prices go up, have witnessed that too. Probably due to higher material costs, I’ve seen that with other companies too. Still a crazy jump. On the +FX side Elektron mentioned to me that they are already planning new modules via future firmware updates - so let’s see how the machine further evolves
@@MilesKvndra This is exactly why I love and support companies like Elektron and more recently Arturia. The upcoming Microfreak update is wild! The 1.5 Digitakt update was also amazing. As much as I love the sound of Moog, it took them YEARS to fix a simple bug on the subharmonicon.
@@profitsandloss yeah agree. I’m just in love with the Moog sound, it just feels and totally resonates with me. 🥲
lmao @ that unit. elektron is getting creatively bankrupt
That’s a little harsh I think, the Syntakt is a cool device. But yeah still not 100% convinced by the +FX - although the modulation is quite deep I will wait for more models to come via future firmware updates.
I mean if you're in need of a multi FX unit it seems pretty sick. Hopefully they add more stuff to it
@@atetraxx Yep, I mean this paired with an Eventide HD90 and would you really need anything else?
that painting is hideously crooked. fix this immediately
You're so right haha - I've already left Berlin so no chance fixing this anymore.
Elektron running out of ideas. Late capitalism.
Not 100% convinced too. But Elektron mentioned that they will add future models too - interesting to see what’s coming there.
