As an art history geek photorealism like chuck close..Richard Estes believe it or not they have more in common with abstract expressionism ( yes the people who through paint) than classic artists like neo classic or realistic painters....why well photos are flat at the end of the day a painting In front of you not a photo of one looks real vibrant and awesome where a computer or photo image looks flat... Richard Estes paints glass ( reflections are flat) with words like drugs ( drugs = flat) chuck close uses pixiles bc they are referencing the flat canvas

Cool info man. It looks like they made some interesting artworks. I get your point with the abstract expressionism. The classical artists valued proportions in a mathematical sense, while since the 1900s, coinciding with contemporary philosophy, the expression of ones 'sein' or 'Being' as a subject came to be valued more. Especially with a new wave of scepticism on the possibility of epistemological certainty. The expression of the abstract (which in this case is not meant in the Hegelian or Geometrical sense, but artistic sense of embedding idea A in unrelated idea B.) Is a way to play with sense of reality and structure.

The Oxford dictionary defines Photorealism in regards to computer graphics as ... "(in computer graphics) the rendering of images in an extremely realistic way." Not as "looking like a photo".

My thoughts aren't determined by dictionaries. Here's a problem: the cambridge dictionary says:" a painting or drawing style in which pictures look like photographs." Pick your poison.
My idea is that photorealism is an umbrella term that entails other forms that can be further specified. The goal is to bring clarity to our thinking. I'm creating new terms for the dictionary...
