Didn't S23 get faster storage, a better camera, significantly better video recording, a way faster and more efficient chip, and better speakers? I'd argue that all of those things were significant improvements that everyone will notice. Things like Apple's satellite communication and crash detection are features most people won't notice/actually use.

I think the reason the original HomePod was discontinued had nothing to do with sales, but because they had a pretty high failure rate. I had a pair of the OG ones and they both started to crap out right around the time they pulled the product. Lots of people on the HomePod subreddit with the same issues. I think they went back to the drawing board and made one that was (hopefully) more reliable. I don't think they ever wanted to pull it, and the naming of the HomePod Mini kinda proves that. But I've already gone all in on Sonos in the last 2 years so I won't be rolling the dice on the new ones.

Quick note on the primes vs zooms for wildlife photography.
A lot of wildlife photographers prefer primes because at long focal lengths they're sharper and have much faster apertures than zooms. Zooms are great for their versatility but even with a zoom at stretched out to 600mm you may need to move closer.

I use it everyday to control my blinds, AppleTV while watching movies (“fast forward ___minutes”, Pause, etc..), Control lights, podcast, weather info, phone calls. I think its only valuable if you are maximizing the use of them. One thing that is amazing are the mic’s on the homepod, you can give commands in normal tone voice level from across your house.

There is a good portion of people who want some nice sounding speakers in their room/living room, but live with a roommate/significant other that does not want to see any bookshelf/tower speakers/crazy setups. I feel like the HomePod is a great median between small speakers and great sounding large speakers. For those that haven't heard/seen the OG HomePod in person, it is actually impressive how good the quality of the sound is and how loud it gets - especially when you pair it with a second HomePod. Plus, its easy to hide in a corner, or behind some type of room decoration.
One of the other issues was the HomePod was really behind in software when it was released so it was reviewed very poorly. The stereo pairing wasn't ready, only apple music could be streamed (i think airplay wasn't working at the time) etc... - now its been updated and sounds great with two HomePods and most of those criticisms have been addressed. It should still support bluetooth and have an Aux cable, but eh 🤷‍♂ - that's Apple. To anyone out there that wants a very good sounding speaker, but doesn't want to mess with the hassle of a system or having large speakers, I would absolutely recommend it(and get two of them for a stereo pair).

For me it's not a small change. People say there are small changes because the phone looks the same as the last one but honestly there's a lot more happening under the hood. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 a faster cpu and a new adreno chip so you get a better gpu, the cooling system is better, Battery life was already tested on another channel and is on par with the pro max, Ufs 4.0 for faster storage so the phone will read and write faster not to mention the new lpddr5x ram for better multitasking, the higher storage upgrade (for the price of 256Gb on pre-order you get the 512 instead) a new 200mp camera sensor that has 3 options 12mp for low light, 50 mp for ample light and 200mp for daytime shots. the new selfie camera that has better quality and improved sensor. ltpo 3.0 a better panel for better battery life, gorilla Glass victus 2 for better protection not to mention the cameras can now shoot 4k portrait mode on the front and back, I believe the stabilization increased to 43-53% if I'm not mistaken and 8k video which is not cropped in anymore and is 30 fps, a new Astro photography mode, expert raw and cameras assistant are now integrated onto the phone as well. Those are not small changes, those are real upgrades. the only problem with Samsung is the unpacked event sucked they didn't showcase all of these better and instead focused on the directors using the camera which is a flop IMO but this by far is the best phone out there. not to mention having an spen and dex mode is what makes it an ultra. Now with the iphone 14 pro max that you can call subtle changes lol a dynamic island, new chip, new upgraded cameras with bold claims of 2x better than the last Gen, the 4k cinematic mode and action mode and that's about it. Samsung has more value.

38:12 re: chatgpt being down.. I don’t know if it’s just me, but when it’s down, I refresh repeatedly and eventually I get in, usually less than a minute. It sometimes cycles between a screen saying they’re at capacity and a login screen, but you don’t need to login again. Just keep hitting refresh and on the 5-10th time it’ll work

I think the s23 ultra isn't getting enough credit. The camera experience is significantly improved imo, at least based on the camera comparison videos I've seen so far. As a whole, photos are better than the iPhone 14 Pro Max and video is much closer to the iPhone than it was before. If you watch any of those videos last year, iPhone destroyed the S22 Ultra in a lot of categories. I don't think the S23U dominates the iPhone 14 Pros to the same degree that the 14 Pros dominated the S22U upon release (and I'm sure that becuz of the staggered release times bw these phones, iPhone 15 Pros will comfortably beat out the S23U's camera performance), but the fact that it is BETTER to some significant degree in a lot of categories than the current iPhone is a major point in it's favor. That's compelling if you ask me. For reference, I'm talking about Mrwhosetheboss and Supersaf's photo comparison vids.

I recall reading how the OG HomePods cost Apple around $216 to make. Very small profit margins and bad sales = discontinuation
With less and cheaper parts, I’m sure the new Homepod will stay on the market for much longer.
