It's derived from the word 'Swa' meaning self and 'raj' meaning rule.
In the above context, it means self rule of Hindus as opposed to Izlamic rule that prevailed during Mughals

And the founder of the Indian Navy.

History Class : Almost all India was ruled by Muslim rulers who did attrocities.
Then rises Shivaji Raje, who was the son of a General of Nawab of Deccan Sultanate.
Shivaji Raje stood against the attrocities of the Nawabs and gradually gaining power he declared himself Independent and he was given the title "Chatrapati". He fought all his life against the Nawabs of Deccan Sultanate and the Mughals.
Later, when he died his son Sambhaji Raje became the new 'Chatrapati'. He continued what his father did. He defeated, Aurangazeb the Mughal Emperor, many times. Aurangazeb knew he couldn't defeat Sambhaji Raje. So, he used Sambhaji's relatives to trap him and capture him. Aurangazeb asked Sambhaji to convert to Islam but he refused. Sambhaji was tortured to death. This united whole Maratha community against the Mughals.
And this led to the decline of Mughal Empire and rise of Maratha Empire.
So, Chatrapatis were the Kings and Peshwas were the Generals. By time Peshwas became more powerful. Though technically they bowed to Chatrapatis they had a lot of power themselves.
Many Peshwas came and Bajirao was the greatest among them who expanded the Maratha Empire to its peak.
Its not story its the history of INDIA. Its GREATNESS. ITS TRUTH!!

Mastani was a warrier- is a myth.There is no war document to show that any person called Mastani ever faught any war. She braught Chhatrasal's message to Bajirao, she saved Bajirao's life etc.etc. are all mangadhant bate.
