I think you probably will like the second part of the series more! That was the case for me. There is a time jump, so Darrow is 32 at the beginning of Iron Gold. The series also becomes multi pov at this point, so you get to hear from different colors and people who aren’t on the same side as Darrow. It added a lot more intrigue and depth to the story for me and I think you’ll appreciate it.
I do agree with you! That’s why I think the second part of the series is a lot more expansive in both the plot and the people. Reading about the fallout of war and how that affects the different classes is a lot more fascinating in my opinion. Also getting the perspective of someone that despises Darrow is quite interesting too😂
Glad you enjoyed it enough to continue! I think for me Pierce Brown’s writing has just continued to improve over the series. As someone who has read all of them so far I think Dark Age was probably my fave. But I cannot wait for the final book to see how everything wraps up. Great vlog! PS. The roach really said hi, I’d like to be in the vlog please 😂
I totally agreed with you on book 1- it was barely a 3 star read for me and I had tons of problems with it, mostly regarding Darrow having Perfect MC syndrome, badly written female characters, and hunger games rip off. However golden son fixed many but not all problems I had, and then ultimately I surprisingly liked morning star a lot. The difference between 1 and 3 was crazy
It's so good to know about Red Rising and managing expectations. I don't think I would have bothered picking it up if you said the sequel didn't get better 😅
I highly recommend reading Morning Star, I had a lot of the same feelings as you while reading RR and GS, but LOVED Morning Star, which I read earlier this year. I haven't read Iron Gold yet but I'm excited to pick it up soon!
And your roach scenario is why I refuse to move to.TX (along with the fact that I'm a teacher). However, i have to disagree with you somewhat on your take on Darrow. He's not a chosen one because of any abilities or intelligence- simply due to life circumstances. I would argue that Darrow is not that smart- how many times did he walk into a trap on book 1? Also, they were in the institute (book 1) for about a year, and in the Academy for a couple of years. They for sure have a trauma bond and the closeness reminds be of the closeness that people in the armed forces develop. Also, I LOVE Sevro and Ragnar. And, it's been a few years since the events of book one, so infeel like if he had fully processed his grief, it wouldn't be too soon for the developments with some female characters.
I love the red rising series! Love both books my favorite 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞📙📖📖📖📚📚📙📖📖📖📙📙📚📙📖📖📖📙📙📚📚📚📚📚📖📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📙📖📖📖📙📚📚
I think I’ve said it before, but have you read The Final Strife? It’s a similar story in that you follow rebels in a very strictly stratefied society, but I feel like a lot of the issues you have with this series are executed much better in that one!!!
Is it me, or is the premise very similar to The Will of the Many? The Roman influence..the hierarchy. But the writing in The Will is simply mindblowing

I read the first book, gave it a 3 and then a certain .......................................weirdo dominant peeing scene happened for the 2nd time in the series, and I couldn't continue. The vibe was like if a dude fraternity bro tried to sell me bit-coin or invest in my start-up as a book. I'm glad to see that there is someone on booktube who is not head over heels for this series.
I had such a hard time with book 2. I actually liked book 1. I started book 2 and then stopped to check Goodreads to see if there was an in between novella that I missed. I feel like I missed some stuff. The time jump and the introduction of new characters that Darrow had come to know between the books threw me off. I didn’t know them and the author didn’t fill in the blanks. And so I wasn’t invested in any of the relationships with them. And then the last 25% of the book I found to be just ridiculous. It was just over the top in a way I don’t enjoy. It reminds me of the way I felt about the tv show Scandal. I could NOT take the over wrought drama and I constantly thought “no one would do any of this in real life”. It just seemed silly. I tapped out after the first season of that show and tapped out after book 2 of Red Rising.
I didn’t like the first book but because of all the reviews I continued and liked the next 2 books better. However I never really connected with Darrow and like you I didn’t like how he was the best at everything 🫤. I didn’t continue on to the next trilogy. I like the Empire of Silence though the first book wasn’t the best. Also the Bound and the Broken by Ryan Cahill though the first book was just ok I really enjoyed the rest of the series and am looking forward to his next book!
For a long time I've wanted to adopt a pet and name her Matilda/Milly because of your adorable girl, and I swear the world works in the weirdest ways. A cat was surrended to my mum's vet clinic named Emily, Mily for short 🥹 and I now have a cat named Mily and I didn't even name her!
I couldn’t continue with book three after Golden Son. The writing was a huge let down for me and found scene after scene hit frustrating cliches with irrational actions and plans. I’m glad so many enjoy this series but it’s not for me.
I used to live in Oklahoma and we never had them. I never heard of any in Texas from anyone I knew there either. Climate change has caused scorpions to go further north, so now some of my friends have had scorpions in Oklahoma. We have them in Arizona, but I've only seen two inside in the over 20 years I've lived here.
I’m currently reading morning star and for me (at least for now) the series is a gigant… meh. Not good, not bad either. It could have been such an amazing trilogy, but the characters riun it, especially Darrow and Mustang. The only one I care about is Victra (I love her)
I can't stand his books and I can't stand him, Pierce Brown is a clown who thinks being against colonialists is only fair and ok when HE writes them in his books but when it comes to real life HE'S NOWHERE TO BE SEEN FOR THE SUPPORT OF MINORITIES and i truly think he doesn't deserve any credit at this point.
@@FilmyDost007 well clearly the artist (pierce brown) doesn't really match with his art (red rising) there FOR SURE but I will no go on about why "separating the art from the artist" is an old take that should be forgotten
@@iiisha864 as far as i am aware, pierce brown has shown support for isr**l and 'it's right to exist'' despite being an apartheid state. However, I can't say for sure if his stance has changed more recently since he has been very quiet about it (and i'm not on twitter or following him anymore - I had followed him until a few years ago when he was 'both sides-ing' the palestinian apartheid). It all just seems kinda messed up when you consider his stories are based on those suffering under oppression, yet when it comes to real life, he doesn't seem to give a damn?
The roach scenario had me giggling so hard but also the concern in Clay’s voice was so sweet 😂❤️
Seeing the roach blooper make the final cut is a very full circle moment 😂
The roach scenario on the final cut and Clay's worry tone, like he literally came running, made me laugh so much!! 😂😂Love the realness!! ♥♥
Hearing you talk about this book makes me think you will enjoy the sequel series SO much- it is very political and also multiple POVs!

The Graphic Audio for Red Rising is honestly amazing and amplified my experience reading the series.

Loving all your glasses in this vlog!!
You should try burrata cheese. It’s mozzarella that melts when you cut into it. No heating required.
i love that i got to see the roach scenario AGAIN after seeing it on tiktok😭😭😭 peak entertainment
watching your vlogs always makes me sooo hungry. all the food you make looks so good.
I felt the same way!!! Had no urge after first book to continue, took a break then read every book back to back!
This is one of my favorite books of all time so I'm too scared to watch this video 😂
It's so good to know about Red Rising and managing expectations. I don't think I would have bothered picking it up if you said the sequel didn't get better 😅
That Jeff Probst shirt is wild 😂😂
A 42 minute long video!? Just what I needed
the ending of golden son changed me

This makes me so happy. You'll love the rest of the books
I only read the first three books, but the third book was probably my favorite so far. But Darrow is definitely not my favorite character!
Next trilogy is multiple POV with different colors🙌
3rd and 6th books were fantastic. I loved them all though! Gotta give you credit to keep going when you thought the first sucked.
odd request, but could we get a house tour.the floor plan seems pretty cool.
She posted a house tour video like probably 2 years ago.

For some odd reason, Golds do love to pee on enemies to humiliate them.

Some species of roaches are beneficial to humans and can initiate ecological succession even on a bare rock, hence should be domesticated.
ARE THERE SCORPIONS IN TEXAS???
Yes, they are in Austin. I only make the distinction because I have seen them there but not other cities I have lived in (in TX).

Yes at least in central Texas. We would find scorpions in our house and in our beds growing up
I still haven’t read red rising 😵💫
