    Jd, set your air bag pressure hooked up. Disconnect and check the psi unhooked. Then you can make that a prehook up check. Seems a far easier method.

    If you install hooks on both ends of you’re safety chains and use the correct rated shackle or eye bolts you can unhook you’re safety chains from the bottom of the goosebox and just leave them lay in the bed of you’re truck while traveling. That way no climbing in and out over the side of the truck while hitching

      Trying to figure out the best method to do this right now. Do you have any more insight on how to ensure I’m buying the right eye bolts and additional hooks? Just want to make sure everything is rated properly thanks.

    Best thing I ever did for my goosebox was put an Airlift compressor on the camper. Maintains the bag while bouncing down the road incase it purges and has the remote for filling and draining the bag when need be

    You did a nice fix on the cable, you should build that with a nice handle and produce that item.

    I added the Gen 1 hitch when they were first available and have no regrets other than it does leak off air every now and then. Thank you for the tips on the release cable.

    I've had the gen I for five years now, it's a great product and I won't go back to a conventional fifth-wheel. As you said in your first gen III video, you do loose air over time and it's mildly inconvenient but it's really not a big deal. I carry an air compressor for my truck and trailer so topping it off is just part of my process.

    When I was considering the goosebox for a 5th wheel I was going to attach an onboard air system pump to the box itself and then have that always connected and use the remote to inflate as needed. I went with the Lippert Gooseneck Connect option which works nicely for the rhino frame.

    That little cable stopper that keeps the hitch open is a liability!! I picked up my camper from my local Camping World service department and had no idea that they left my Gen2 Goosebox latched open so they could move it easier with a forklift. I towed it home without being latched on the ball!!! Nothing happened except I needed a new pair of shorts when I realized what I had done and learned a big lesson that day. Eat less mexican food!!

    You have super helpful videos! I have just added this 3rd Gen Goose Box to my Grand Design Reflection 320MKS. I pull with a Ford SD F250 woth 10800 package. I have the goosebox on the highest holes (to keep it as low as possible to my bedrail). I have the stock Ford Goose Ball (1/2 inch), but still am a little nose high. I had added Timbrens to my truck and so when i put the 5th wheel on the truck it only goes down about an inch. I love the pin box, but I'm a little concerned with the height.

    • @JIMPETERSON-n7i
      @JIMPETERSON-n7i 6 місяців тому

      They recommend 6" minimum between your bedrails and the bottom of the 5th wheel. We moved our tandem axles under the springs *and* paid for a 3" lift (the most Boise Spring Works would do without adding a subframe) to get our "older" 33' 5th wheel level (front to back) going down the road.
      We now have an aluminum flat bed so no more worries about clearance but the front end of our newer toy hauler is too high. Fortunately, our gooseneck adapter has a height adjustment so I'll shorten that as much as a can to get the trailer closer to level (front to back) while going down the road.

    Maybe you’ve talked about this but can you fill that air bag with nitrogen? It’s more stable then compressed air, compressed air has moisture in it where the nitrogen would be cleaner. Just a thought. I’m doing homework on what we want to do when we get our RV.

    So after watching your videos on the gen 3 , I got one installed . Ordered the air valve extensions and installed a longer cable too . My question is what lock is available for the gen 3 ?

  • @robv4053
    @robv4053 Рік тому +1

    So, JD, seems you're relying only on the spring latch on the lock pin??? Sorry, not for me, and I have been towing gooseneck for a half-century! Once on the ball, for me, that lock pin needs to be locked off with a padlock, clipped pin, etc... I simply have a mechanic's tire step that I use to lock and unlock the pin and makes the stock actuating cable simple to work and easily adjust the air pressure from that position.

    Love you content! Wonder if you could address this topic somewhere down the line? Why don’t manufacturers better balance or adjust the axels or better yet make axels positions adjustable so hitch weights can be adjusted to give like SRW 1 tons the ability to haul so of those heavier hitch weight 5th wheels? Always wondered why some 15,000 lbs 5th wheels have such high hitch weights. Thanks

      Reports? Lol! It's the design of the Goosebox. It's a hinged assembly that's cushioned via an airbag and dampened by a pair of shocks. When you reverse, you're folding the hinge. It can only deflect a marginal amount.

  • @electricamish
    @electricamish Рік тому

    A comment....you said you wanted to see if the new design would hold air for a longer period of time, and before you gave it a chance you added a connection which has the potential to leak and not give an accurate indication of what the new bag will do. Good content but if you want to review it, use it the way it was intended and then modify it. I get it, its like buying a new truck and then not putting floor mats in, because thats what you want.
    Side note, if you would slip something like those shoe lace holders, also used on backpacks and camping gear, the ones that you push down the button or both sides and it opens to allow a string to slide or lock, ...over the cable before crimping it, you could slide that down to your magnet and hold the cable when uncoupling and the slip it back up when connecting, that would hold the lock open, shouldnt take much pressure.
