Ive been there many times, I don't see Singapore expensive for tourism, only for living and also good hotels are very expensive, besides that you could get the best food in the world for less than 10 USD, only Italian food is overpriced, best places for visiting are free or very affordable
Its a very small country but very densly populated , so they wana keep the cars out and have people use public transport thats why the cars are so expensive ... it makes sense
It's a classic example of a government telling its citizens how to live their lives. Outrageously-priced cars purposely designed to force people into using public transportation. Why even bother building roads.
Visited Singapore only 8 times and enjoyed each trip, remember years ago cars needed permits just to drive into the city proper. Transport is excellent and cheap, food is moderately priced and hotels can be quite expensive during last visit in 2018. Always fun to explore the diversity of cultures and very rewarding. Hoping to return this year.
The so-called permits, is an automated toll system... LOL. just deducts money from a card in the car. From 50 cents to $4, cheaper than driving into Central London for 10 pounds, or SF's bridge tolls.

Hi Gabi. What a great presentation you make with facts that are so interesting, I visited Singapore 2019 and experienced during 3 days many places with wow factor, it is extremely clean everywhere and you feel safe on the streets and squares, but sure it is expensive but it is worth paying for if you stay just for a few days, We had an incredible experience and think 3 days was enough for us. Hello we went to Singapore In March and for us personally because we live in London we found it to be roughly the same as living in London, I mean Singapore isn’t cheap but neither is living in London

Spore is comparable to any 1st world city but we have cheaper options. Nevertheless accommodation and cars are really expensive because of land limitations.
I find Singapore very reasonable comoared to NZ and Aistralia. Food is actually very cheap compared to the west, the hawker food centres have meals for a few dollars. Also no meed to own a car in Singapore, great public transport and taxis are cheap

I have lived in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonisia… Indeed Singapore is the most expensive place to live, but I loved it and I know it’s only because my income allowed me to enjoy it. At the same time I also immensely loved Bangkok after living there for 5 years, its vibrant colorful and friendly culture, and also obviously rich culinary experience. So those two are my favourite places to live. Mind you I currently live in London and prior to that I was living in Mexico city. I know I am biased being an Asian, Singapores and Thailand are still my favourite!

2) 90% singaporean own a house. Its so cheap up to 190k grant for singaporean.
Main reason is Singapore currency is strong.. you will get less if you exchange it.. for local its more beneficial import stuff feel cheap.. in Malaysia iphone cost Rm7k just imagine earning in ringgit..
thank you for sharing love your vlogs. Singapore is one of fav countries either those it so expensive, they set the bar for south east Asia. You can see cities like Bangkok , Kuala Lumper are trying replicate Singapore, and are doing good at it apart the traffic part.

Actually Singapore is not expensive at all. SGD4 can get you a meal in hawker stall vs Malaysia RM8. Frash graduate in Singapore earn SGD3000 Vs in Malaysia RM3000. Singapore is so cheap

These "league tables" of most expensive cities are often created using metrics important for foreigners wanting to live somewhere other than their home countries. Singapore rates high because of rental costs of private housing/condo units, car ownership costs and private school education but Singapore also has very low taxes, great housing subsidies for their own population, excellent free health for Singaporeans, free Education for Singaporeans plus its extremely safe with some of the lowest crime in the world. Public transport is exceptional and cheap as are taxis. Local food is good and cheap and many Singaporeans eat out far more than Australians or Europeans. Foreign imported food can be expensive but its similar prices in Australia and parts of Europe. Singapore has never wanted to be a destination for cheap travel and it markets itself as a destination for luxury and shopping, lots and lots of shopping. The way Singapore sees it, if you want cheap ... go to their neighbouring countries. Finally, I would say that the Singapore government uses the levers it can control, especially around indirect taxes, to manage the population of foreigners to ensure that Singaporeans are not at too much of a disadvantage. After 14 amazing years of fantastic living in Singapore, we left in 2019 for much softer reasons than money and tax. I will always love Singapore but I am extremely happy not to live there anymore. Ive been lucky to live in singapore for 5 years through parents work. When it comes to housing I don't think I'll ever live in such a luxury place again :'D. Going back for one week holiday next month, for the first time since 2017... super gassed

There is hotels for only $40 when the time I renovate my house I staying in those hotels for months. However I can’t list those hotels because UA-camr system will delete it automatically, Singapore government doesn’t encourage people to buy car that why invest so much on public transportation, medical care for Singaporean is not high because we have lots of grants from the government. Last year I just done my hart’s attack operation the hospital bill was $40k however after government grant I only have to pay #1+k.

Hi Gabi , if you are still in Singapore let’s do a real estate video . Insane to visit and see 2-3 rooms apartaments at 20-25k per month but in the same tine you have meals at 4-5 / meal , impossible to find in many places in the World

I would say, like it or not, smart Singapore Government management of the expensive ‘chain reaction’ in Singapore & inevitably the world.
Look at how Singapore becomes a very advance modern society other countries envy.
Singapore government earns BUT it puts back.
1. Space constrain = expensive properties but 80+% of Singaporean own their home.
Government earns.
2. Road constrain = made cars less affordable & more expensive
You are rich you can buy it.
Less traffic means minimum needs for government to built roads & highways. Government spent less.
Government earns.
3. Expensive cigarettes & liquors. You can buy, you can smoke or drink.
Less to provide for personal health care.
Government earns.
4. Restaurant, food courts, entertainment are more expensive.
You can afford it you can eat there.
Otherwise it’s cheaper to eat at local hawker centers or coffee shops.
Government earns.
5. Singapore builds hospital like building 5 star hotels.
One stay 3 days in hotel. One will probably stays 3 weeks in hospital.
Government earns.
6. Etc.

Expensive to one may not be that expensive to another. An inexpensive place can be rendered expensive when people flock to it.
Be aware that there is a big difference in the value of a Singapore dollar and a US dollar, it will confuse some.
Wanna add something regarding the hotel prices. I've been to Singapore in 2007 an hotel prices were really cheap back then. We paid 50 USD per night for a 4 star hotel. Today, you find nothing under 100 EUR/USD per night. The EURO was much stronger back then however and the ECB is ruining it at the moment.
Furthermore your Ibis hotel location is in red light district and that’s why is cheaper

Singapore imposes taxes on luxury goods so that you can be nudged to walk rather than emit more emissions by using a car… also touristy things are expensive but like I said before. Other than this, Ecuador is more expensive, for instance in terms of food

There's a real two-stream economy, I think: one for citizens and another, much more expensive, for expatriates. And why not? - it's their country.
Of course, there are ways that costs can be reduced a bit. I've been to Singapore a few times and I can't see that a car is essential. Useful sometimes, but public transport is so good (especially the MRT) and comprehensive. Plus Singapore is extremely safe; you don't feel that you're taking a risk by using public transport.

Both car and property price in Singapore are considered ludicrous for most fellow Singaporean in low and middle income group. For high income earners and selected elite group of people including ministers, $300K BMW or $3 millions condo or $1 million HDB is just small change. So, it depend on persons budget appetite 😂

There is no subsidy for medical expenses for foreigners working in SG..if u want to work in SG u must take up healthcare & hospitalization insurance to mitigate your medical expenses. Also it depends on your company. Some companies covers medical costs at a capped cost per year or on a co-sharing basis which is company pays up to a capped amount or percentage and you pay the balance.

@@tman5634 i'm a Kiwi living in Singapore . Basic meal at a SG food court $3-$6 max. Akl $20. Taxi ride for 4 km, in SG $12 max, in Akl. $30. MRT in SG $1.60 for a 3 station ride, in Auckland, $5 on an ancient hand me down train from Europe. Thats just the basics.
It is also the safest, most beautiful and best maintained city in the world

U r wrong! The COE cost is a form of tax and goes to govt which is well used in road maintenance, improvement and construction of new roads. Over and above the COE there is a import tax for cars.

Your reasons are not very accurate. For 1,hdb flats aren't cheap. They average 500k for a 3 bedder and it's on 99 year lease. Flats crossing 1 mil in value are common. Coe is thru bidding but there's a quota so the quantities of vehicles are always kept in check no matter the price. To me, the no 1 reason why Singapore is the most expensive city is because of the pap government, which sees it fit to raise prices for everything even when the organisations providing the services are enjoying increased profits. The average Singaporean has become impoverished in recent years. People are resorting to living in JB and renting out their Singapore property
This is all Malaysia 's past mistake of non - acceptance.
