@@zeddxx2522 right? and the 3.5 sounds nothing like a small v8. It sounds like a fairly bog ass standard v6, even with good exhaust. I know because I have one in my car.
I really love the 3.6 Pentastar. My 2015 Grand Caravan has that engine with the 6 speed transmission and it has been VERY reliable. With almost 250,00 kms (or 155,000 miles in America,) my 3.6 Caravan has held up to unforgiving Canadian temperatures and road conditions! Engine + trans is all original with nothing done but basic maintenance.
I have a 3.6L in my 2014 300C, and I added a K&N Typhoon air intake , one of the best mods you can do for this engine. Great throttle response and oh that sound!!
3.6 has internally cast exhaust manifolds resulting in a a large d shape port instead of a manifold and collector. This has obvious differences in the ability to exhaust scavenge as well as large differences in the over all velocity of the gases. This is why they sound so dramatically different
DOHC vs SOHC: They’re two totally different engines with nothing in common. There’s many things that could determine the sound of an engine from fuel delivery to ignition timing to valve timing to crankshaft balance to the length of the exhaust manifold to the overall rigidity of the block itself. When Chrysler/Daimler engineers designed this engine they (supposedly) started with a clean sheet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was somehow based off an existing design from one of the two companies. That being said it would be theoretically impossible to make two totally different engines sound the same. The Pentastar 3.6 is a much newer design that is aimed at smooth performance and refinement whereas the 3.5 was based off models from early 90s and earlier. The 3.6 has the potential to sound pretty good and rev higher but the fuel and ignition timing are so precisely delivered that it’s just too smooth to sound like a 3.5.
stonent agreed, the 3.5 has a traditional, bassy, deeper American V6 sound to it. A lot like the old school 60 degree V6s from GM and also like the 90 degree Buick 3800 and the truck 4.3 V6s.
stonent it’s an interesting engine because it has different tones depending on vehicle it sounds great in the last generation 200, current Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, and Jeep Wrangler
To be honest the 3.6L Penastar V6 is a much better engine like it make over 500 HP at the Crank with just a supercharger upgrade from Rippsuperchargers.
CJ Colvin That's because the awd system isn't all the time. The front axle disconnects to save fuel. It kicks in when the rear wheels lose traction. If it was permanent awd...a burnout is near impossible. Unless you are able to disconnect the front axle with a tune as most new systems are electronically controlled.
Nicholas Coucoularis That version Sounders better than a lot of the v8s at that time. These cars were just as quick or quicker than Lincoln LS v8s and Aurora v8s at that time. My 300m still runs with all of the newer v6's.
Nicholas Coucoularis One of the best cars Chrysler has made in the past two decades. In fact this car started the trend of high powered 3.5 liter V6's.
I’ve got 210,890 miles on my 2006 300 touring. Or 339240 KM roughly. And it’s still not having any real issues besides uneven tire wear and slight acceleration delay.
The 3.5 was derived from the 3.3 V6, for use in the LH cars. The 3.6 was a completely new design that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the 3.5 engine.
The 3.3L is a pushrod mill. The 3.5 has an overhead cam. The 3.8L in the minivans was the one derived from the 3.3L. The 3.5L is related the the 4.0L and the 3.2L.
As long as it runs well and has decent performance, I don't really care what it sounds like...I prefer mostly stock sounding V6 engines, but the V8s better be loud enough to wake up the dead !
Part of the reason the 3.6 sounds different is because of the DOHC set up, the intake manifold, and most importantly the fact that the 3.6 Does NOT have traditional exhaust manifolds. On the 3.6 the exhaust manifold is cast into the heads so all the exhaust merging and scavenging is done IN THE HEAD (which is why you can't get headers) where as the 3.5 has an external exhaust manifold (the style we all know and think of) and all the exhaust merging and scavenging is done there
Marspeed I hate when people say this. Yes, the 3.6 isn't as fast as a Hemi but for a daily driver that comes stock at 305hp, it's definitely not slow especially after a few mods. And it can be made to sound good. Check my page for sound clips. I get compliments on mine all the time. It's not ever going to sound like a hemi but you can make them more aggressive with the right setup.
@@MarspeedCarsWeight has a lot to do with the performance, and if you weigh 170 lbs. like me, it FLYS through its 8 gears almost as fast as my 09 Challenger with 5.7l with the 5 speed, just quieter!
Technically you could supercharge the new 3.6l v6s and get close to 500 HP with them. Not familiar with the old 3.5l but now that I've seen this video I almost wish I could possibly transplant it into a newer v6 charger and modify it as far as possible. Good video as usual!
I've had 2 3.5s in magnums... Both took a shit rather quickly, even though I adhered to maintanence schedule... Now the 3.6 a nice upgrade, although... Don't like the exhaust manifold being cast as 1 with the head...
I've got a 2017 rt. I'm not here to talk any trash. I'm actually really impressed with the way they sounded. I especially liked the flowmaster 10 setup since that's what I threw on my rt. I removed the resonators as well. Nice vid.
Yea no hate here either but owning a V8 you gotta admit there’s nothing like the sound that cold start .. and tbh nothing wrong with a v6 but it’s worth spending a few more dollars or getting an older v8 instead .
i had a 3.5 in a 04 Chrysler Concorde and a 3.6 in a 2012 200 and now in my 2015 200 ,the Pentastar is a superior engine all around,power,MPG and reliability
The 3.5L Charger sounds more like a V8 on each start up which is why I like them better. But I really like the Pentastar motors like in the Avenger RTs because of the shorter gears.
The Pentastar is an interesting engiine. I remember looking at a 200 when it was debuting and being g told the new v6 would run 0-60 in 5.5. The 5.7 hemi challengers were doing it in about 5.0 at the time. And the Pentastar in the 200 was getting better fuel economy than its 4 cylinder models at the time. I hear they're planning on a turbo Pentastar to replace the 5.7 hemi sometime soon, and it's supposed to hit about 500 hp.
Mike 201 the 8 speed used in most new RWD cars. In addition to FCA, BMW, Jaguar, Audi, VW, Bentley, Aston Martin, and even Rolls Royce uses this transmission.
Mike you must be talking about the 9 speed it did have problems but it's been fix in new cars but the 8 is bad ass and I will take the 8 over the 9 any day.
I work on quite a few 3.6’s in Jeep wranglers. They make good power, and they’re smooth, that’s really all I have to say, I was impressed with the power from the 3.6 in the dodge promaster I used to drive for work. But from my experience with them they have issues that turn me off of them. The valve train issues, head and cooling system issues on early engines and the ever prolific oil cooler failures are all concerns. My problem with these issues is a lot of them aren’t maintence related, it doesn’t matter how well you take care of the car when the oil cooler decides to crack at 65k, or the oil galley plugs in the heads back out at 109k. Besides that they just don’t have as much character or charm as the older v6’s it replaced. It’s more efficient, much more powerful, especially compared to the 3.7 or 3.8 v6. But I don’t really care. They’re complicated soulless engines, impressive. But just not quite my cup of tea, I’d much rather have an older 3.5, 3.7, or 3.8 v6. Most of their issues can be avoided by proper maintence, and some luck as it is a Chrysler product at the end of the day. I have seen people get good luck with 3.6’s. Saw a promaster with 600k online. But at the same time we have a 2018 wrangler with a very blown head gasket In the shop as I’m writing this comment.
Hello Drewsey5733 For the most part, the pentastar is a very reliable and durable engine. With over 11 million made, their rate of repair is low when in relation to the numbers made. It has a 2-3% failure rate in terms of the valvetrain, (camshaft, valves, lifters and rocker arms) but the timing system on this engine is very strong, unlike the 3.6l v6 GM's which will destroy itself and seize up because they had substandard timing guides. The head gasket issue is less than 1% of these engines and it mainly affected the 2011 to 2014 engines. That is why FCA extended the warranty on the driver's side head of these engines to 10 years or 150k miles. They still have those head failures but it is like basically 0.5% of the engines made. What many average motorists who drive these vehicles with this engine do, is that in the owner's manual states to change the engine oil and oil filter every 8 500 miles, which is way too long of an interval to change oil and filter. I myself had this engine in my 2012 Grand Caravan and in less than 8 years I put 142k miles on the vehicle with 75% of it being in city driving! I changed the oil and filter every 3750 -4 500 miles and I never had a tick because I changed it frequently. Another thing I used was 5w30 motor oil which helped. Many of these engines state to take 5w20, which is like water and it doesn't protect the engine very well. What I find is those that used 5w30 oil actually had much less valvetrain issues than those who used 5w20. When you have VVT engines, you have to change the oil and filter regularly because it is not as forgiving of neglect as a non vvt engine. Toyota states the same thing on their engines in their owners manual to change the oil every 10k miles and a lot of owners do that and their engines need to be replaced completely because it starts burning oil before 100k miles if this schedule is followed. Compared that to a Pentastar where you change the oil like that interval as Toyotas, you will still have the main block but will need to replace the valvetrain only. That is the difference. So instead of spending over $7k for a new engine, you would be spending between $2k-$4k for the valvetrain, depending on if it is just the rockers or the entire valvetrain sans the timing system. As an Automotive Service Advisor who works in the aftermarket, the common cause with these Pentastars is the lack of maintenance. I have seen many customers who have vehicles with these engines and who maintained them very well go over 250 000 miles with nary an issue except for the engine oil cooler housing leaking oil. The most I saw in my time at this place was a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, an Uber passenger vehicle plus he used it for Courier Delivery, and it had over 575k miles on the original powertrain and the only things he replaced were the brakes (pads and rotors 8 times, the rear brakes 5x's and the front brakes 3x's)), tires ( 4 times), the suspension ( struts, strut mounts, rear shocks, ball joints and sway bar links all replaced once), front motor mount (1x), engine oil cooler (1x), front wheel bearings (1x), alternator (1x) and battery (3x's) and last but not least, the driver side automatic sliding door module (1x). That is it! This vehicle we serviced at our shop consistently since the vehicle was 3 years old and says that he will drive this vehicle until the wheels fall off. I asked him how often he changed all his vehicle fluids and this what he stated: Engine oil and filter- every 4k miles-5k miles with 5w30 not 5w20 synthetic Pennzoil; Transmission fluid- every 45k miles including the filter Engine coolant flushed- every 90k miles Battery terminal service- every year before winter Wipers-every 6 months Front and rear caliper service-every 25k miles Wheel alignment- every 25k miles Tires rotated-every 7k miles Tires replaced -all seasons replaced every 125k - 150k miles; snows- every 120k - 130k miles-(2x) A/c serviced and checked once a year before summer-never replaced a single component Fuel injection flush and throttle body serviced- every 40k-50k miles and last but not least he flushed the power steering and brake fluid every 50k miles! He has it detailed and polished once a year including the interior and rust proofed and checked every year Now that is how you take care of a vehicle regardless if it has a terrible reputation or not By the way, I have been working at this place since 2023 and I haven't seen Toyotas Siennas with this kind of mileage. The most I saw on a Sienna was 450k miles and it was a 2016 as well and he had lot more things replaced on it than the above van but they were all minor issues such as normal wear and tear stuff but he had a lot of issues with body interior hardware( handles, interior switches breaking, power seat mechanisms that malfunction frequently, glove box door rattling, abs and air bag lights frequently coming on, valve covers and oil pan leaking, had the steering rack replaced and the condenser replaced but that was not the fault of the van as something big smashed the front grill and destroyed the condenser; His passenger side sliding door switch malfunctioned which caused it to be stuck int the partially opened position and he had to have it towed to the dealership who covered it under warranty but the powertrain overall has been strong!
The best version of the 3.5 was the 300m version. Deep exhaust burble, more torque down low than the 3.6, & 7000 rpm redline. It's 4 speed was very inefficient though. The Charger/300 3.5 was tuned for less performance in a heavier platform that was also hampered by the transmission.
Put a solo performance cyclone Catback exhaust on the 3.6 and it will sound a little less aggressive than The 5.7 Hemi. Way more aggressive then the 3.5
Stev Mayse Someone with a 3.5L V6 Charger added a supercharger along with Longtube headers, highflow cats, an X-pipe and a free flowing Flowmaster dual exhaust that gave the 07 V6 Charger from 0-60 in 9.0 seconds to 0-60 in 5.67 seconds and plus it sounds vicious as well.
The 3.5 sounds different because it has manifolds seperating each exhaust port. While the 3.6 has one exhaust outlet on each of the heads. I'd be willing to bet if someone designed an aftermarket stripped heads that you transfer all it's internals from and had the ability to install actual manifolds or headers, it would sound either like a 3.5 or better.
Disclaimer-There are multiple versions of the Pentastar that vary in power, starting from 283 horsepower all the way up to 310 horsepower. 283 horsepower- early model 3.6 for cars on Fiat's compact platform. 285 horsepower- The compact-based 3.6 got a 2-horsepower boost and a new use in the Jeep Gladiator. 287 horsepower- The V^ of choice for the Chrysler Pacifica. 290 horsepower- The Engine for the base-model Fullsize SUV's 292 horsepower- Base engine for the Charger/300 295 horsepower- The V6 in the second-generation Chrysler 200 300 horsepower- V6 for the 300S/Charger Rallye Group 305 horsepower- Base Challenger engine 305 horsepower- Engine in the base Ram 1500, same horsepower output as the Challenger, but with a different powerband and 1 more Pound-Feet of torque it took me half an hour to remember all of this trivia.
@@MarspeedCars thanks, I just researched it on edmunds, I'm in the middle of an engine swap and didn't notice at first the coils being different. The old 05 3.5 lasted almost 295k!!
@@SimplyStatistical always out doing shit!!! Got plenty of toys to keep me busy!!🤣🤣🤣The 300 was a daily for 14years, I've never really looked into performance parts other than an intake.
I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) with a 6 spd manual & the 3.6L. Its pretty quick for what it is. 0-60 approx 7.2 sec. Unfortunately it just seems to lack low end grunt. But it loves to rev & makes pretty good power over 2500 rpm. As for reliability, early 2012-'13 Pentastars had issues with defective left cylinder head. 2014 had an issue with the oil filter/cooler housing leaking oil all over the top of the motor. The oil would run down the back of the motor and drip onto the exhaust. My Jeep had this issue at 46k. It was a $698 repair at the dealer.
Cam profiles are the single biggest influence over exhaust note, less Muffler design, that there is. Power adders 10 to attenuate that sound the most when they're added to an engine.
It's the length of stroke and bore as well as the cam, valves and exhaust profiles and dimensions changing between the 3.5 and 3.6 Timing also will change the sound of exhaust. Two completely different engines.
@Wilfredo Gomez I’m sorry your sadly mistaken your boat weighs to much to keep up bro ! Basic Bolt on mods I’m at 300+ not including juice for the v8s plus I’m well over 255,000 miles! Bro stop I would take your title faster than you spent your (uncle joe check) on a custom exhaust! Remember your bragging about a fiat that weighs 5,000 lbs
@Wilfredo Gomez lol your dodge was garbage when you bought it bro ! You put custom exhaust on a v6 suv that weighs 5,000 lbs that can get gapped by a Nissan Quest or better yett a 97 maxima! Bro your fiat is overpriced overweight an overrated. Just remember my 255,000 mile garbage TL will last 5x longer than your land whale an still have the sauce to gap you bro!
@Wilfredo Gomez gawd I can tell you know nothing about cars suv is a Dodge Durango silly ! 40,000 for for a v6 dodge your stupid dude! I bet is financed so $80,000 for a v6 piece of crap made by fiat that the dealer said it had sport mode gtfoh! Bro you weight to power is crap! Once again you can’t be a 97 maxima or a Nissan Quest ! Now the Acura TL only paid $750 dollars for an I will gap your land boat once again ! Sad my 750 dollar car will gap you overpriced fiat! You should of bought a Tesla for the price you spent on a overpriced fiat! You couldn’t even begin to race me you have to own your vehicle to play here mr. I can’t pay cash for a fiat! Sad thing ik my car is a shitbox but ik what I can an can’t beat ! An ik your car would be for breakfast! Well dinner seeing how much it weighs! Bro just admit you made a bad financial choice with the fiat , an stop tryna cover it up with b.s mods like a custom exhaust that’s sounds like a mad weedeat! If you wanted to haul family an go fast should of got the V8 o wait! Uncle joe didn’t give you enough ! Gtfoh dude your beat on paper an in the street! An to finish you even more even my lawnmower has sport mode an my Camry (which you def can’t beat) even your cars cousin the Dodge Journey has sport mode. I would of respected you more in that lol
@Wilfredo Gomez my kids bike has sport mode , I think I have a moped with sport mode to ! Matter fact I think I just seen a power wheel with sport mode! If that’s all your car has to offer you should sell it for a Honda ridgeline
I think a big part of the sound difference is the exhaust manifold. The 3.6 is all in the head casting. The 3.5 was a separate piece. On the cast iron block models I always was reminded of the old 426 street hemi manifold with a missing cylinder.
If u got a 3.5 keep the x pipe if u don’t got it add it I’m pretty sure they all got it but remove muffler and resonator add tip for looks u can also buy flow master super 44 sounds like a v8 on idle and low speed high speed sounds raspy but gotta get over it and do intake basically supporting mods will make its tone sound way better
3.6l have procharger kit. 3.6 has 3 gen of the motor 1st 2011-13 2nd 2014-now for 300c, Challenger, charger, jeep. 3rd 2016 - till now grand cherokee and Pacific only has it used 0w20.
I wish Chrysler would update the inline Slant-6 with all the modern technology. The Australians have a HEMI-6, I don't think it's actually a HEMI but they've gotten tons of power out of it
Lol, because you are a car enthusiast. I drove a Trans Am as a young man and have since owned tons of sports & muscle cars, but loved (love) nothing better than perusing salvage yards looking at all the different types of automobiles. In fact, I got run out of one once by a guy with no teeth, combat boots, overalls and nothing else but a bushy black beard. He'd been closed for an hour and a half and came out with blood hounds. When he found me (or I found him, don't recall) he complained that they had been closed for a while but even he understood why I stuck around. From then on whenever I (and my Mopar apologist buddy) came by he reminded us of the closing time. The most interesting car we ever found was a Vespa 400 microcar stacked on the roof of a Chevy G10. Shout out to the Stark Wrecking Company of my youth.
@@manfromnantucket9544 No it was all a Mitsubishi design. Not the fastest, but good torque down low. I'm happy with mine. Plus its built in Japan. For me a positive. Greeting from Australia.
With all the comments on this board, And no one could answer your question on why these two engines sound different? Well I can: The reason is simple. The 3.5 has exhaust manifolds and the 3.6 doesn't. The manifolds give the 3.5 a deeper rumble because they are struck by the exhaust gasses and are Iron, so they vibrate and ring. That vibration stretches the sound out making it double phased. You actually hear it twice, once leaving the engine and once when it hits the manifold that is extended by the vibration. That's why the rumble and why it has that V-8 sound. It's built just like one. The Pentastar on the other hand isn't built like any other engine. It has castings molded right into the heads that simulate headers, starting at the valve, not the block, and completely eliminate the exhaust manifolds altogether. You can't buy headers for a Pentastar, nor is there any reason to. And better than headers, they offer no resistance to the exhaust flow whatsoever and sound very smooth because your hearing it coming directly from the heads. The size of the exhaust ports themselves are huge compared to a header bolted to a block. She can take anything you can give it. Supercharger anyone? This also significantly shortens the path the exhaust has to take from valve to pipe; again increasing efficiency. The only drawback to this design is the heads are not interchangeable; there is a left and right. This is the only engine I'm aware of in the world built this way. Combined with high flow valves, the exhaust flow never hits anything so there's nothing for it to vibrate against. The 3.6 has a lot smoother, cleaner sound and is more efficient. Just one of the reasons the 3.6 is so much more powerful than the 3.5. And it sounds more refined, almost European. I have an 02 Prowler with the 3.5 and it has a tuned factory exhaust that is pretty loud. It sounds European on purpose but adds a deep rumble. One of the strangest engines you'll ever hear and is really nice. But you'd still never mistake it for a V-8. A six, is a six; and there's nothing wrong with that. I also have an 18 Supercharged Dodge Charger 3.6 and both engines are dead smooth. But I can't compare the two cars really, because the Prowler weighs half as much as the Charger. But, it certainly could give the Charger dirt when both were stock. It's weird though and maybe this is an aberration, but my Charger came with 309 horsepower from the factory and I upped it to over 500 with the supercharger. My Prowler came with 285, that I upped to 296. and 02 was after the final upgrade on that engine, but it came with 285, not 255; at least in the Prowler it did. In 2018, the SXT Charger came with 283 horsepower, the GT AWD came with 300 and the GT-Plus AWD came with 309. My window sticker says it. 309, not 283. It also has Brembo brakes from the factory and as far as I'm aware, is the only 6- cylinder that did. Part of the reasons I bought the plus package. As far as aftermarket exhausts for the 3.6 go? That depends on what you want. Do you want it really loud? Then Flowmaster is probably for you. If you don't want it to wake the neighbors, but still look out for cops every time you punch it, then Borla is for you. If you just want a deep rumble, then rippmods is for you. The Ripp comes the closest to having it sound like a V-8, but it's a little too quiet for me. I have a Borla S system in my Charger and it can be loud when you want it to be, or quiet when you want it to be. And while the Flowmaster will buzz your brains out, the Borla has very little, if any drone at all. I can drive my wife out to dinner and the car isn't obnoxious. But, it is obnoxious anytime I want it to be. And that's why I bought it. And keep your factory tips. They keep the water out every time it rains. It's interesting how you complain about the exhaust manufacturers, than play a video with nothing but them on it. And if you run open pipes so it's as loud as you want it to be? You don't want to move in next door to me pal. You start waking me up, and I'll be your worst nightmare. I promise you. I don't know who the hell you think you are, and I don't care. I wish I could swing a Pentastar into my Prowler. I'm no fan of Timing belts and I could supercharge that. You'd need a mountain of parts to supercharge the 3.5. And it has a horrible lubrication system. There is no special high volume oil pump you can buy for it. So I wouldn't even attempt it. Hey, it's a very old design. What are you gonna do?
When I first looked for a exhaust set up for a friend I couldn't find headers for the 3.5 other than port match the manifold. Port and polish the heads as well. Do to he had a minor head gasket leak caught it in time before major damage. He noticed a leak let it sit for a day we tore into it heads were off sleaved the valve guides and port and polished the heads. Crammed it as well as tune and cold air intake made it a dual exhaust definitely sounds better than a honda
FCA owns Mopar.. 3.6 is base on a Maserati v6 non-turbo. If you put a flowmaster on a 2016 or 17 Jeep Grand Cherokee. And stand behind it with your eyes closed and let it take off it would sound like a Maserati to your ears. The best way to have fun with a 3.6 is the cold intake system a Flowmaster exhaust or other type exhaust system that's it... and you really will enjoy the 3.6... this is the best double overhead cam v6 you can have in a Mopar. 🐻🇺🇸
I believe the sound difference is that the 3.6 has in-header exhaust configuration. meaning that there is just one hole per side for the exhaust to leave the engine... ive tried to look whats it calls and have failed... lol
I like the idea of this video. Well done with decent sound. I really wish others did the same type of video for other makes. I am not sure how I ended up here, but I wish I had similar vids for the cars I have. It would make an exhaust mod less of a leap of faith based on shitty sound and heavy wind noise.
tmmurphy thanks for the feedback! I agree there are mostly poor quality driveway exhaust videos out there and I just wanted to make something that could actually help people choose an exhaust or outline differences (like between these 2 engines)
The Pentastar. It's not a bad engine per se. I like to think of it as a V6 Hemi. It has just a little too much spark to just be a throwaway entry level engine imb. It has such a broad range of applications that it's practically asking for something radical to be done with it. Still not a V8 though
I recant my past statement. Apparently someones for some diagrams of an actual V6 Hemi by the creator himself that got scrapped for the pentastar. Slightly salty and wish Mopar would revisit that. Then again I am going all out V8s /Hellcats for my next gig (and swapping up to a Hemi when they bring talks of "swapping is the only way to keep it alive")
3.6 cars have supercharger/pro charger choices. $5500 and you can bolt on a RIPP kit at home. I don't think I've ever seen a kit for the 3.5l (I'm sure someone can find one, I just never seen one.)
Yea you just have to go online and find a exhaust kit for whatever car you have and it usually sounds good. Or if you have a challenger you can usually get a muffler or resonator delete and that sounds good for the challenger I’m not sure on the other 3.6 Pentastars you can still do all that to other cars but for some reason it sounds different depending on what model of car you drive.
The other day l saw a video where somebody is putting a 4.3 L V-6 (GM l assume) into a 1st generation Corvair. I made the suggestion instead of hanging that lump of cast iron out back. He wants to use the Corvair's transmission. I made the duggestion that he use the 3.5 drive train from the Intrepid by mounting the drive train in a mid engine configuration. Even in stovk trim st 225 hp it would be more than enough to turn that little Corvair into a beast. I cannot imagine just what the 4.3 is going to do to the handling. Plus he had to find a LH rotation 4.3 to work with the transmission.
Cool video man keep up. I have a question, i have 2012 charger sxt v6 i got dual straight pipes which Flowmaster should i buy 2 make it sound aggressive and deep, and less drone. Thnx
Fadi Kbah I made a flowmaster comparison vid explaining all the mufflers (search up flowmaster comparison charger) that should help the best. I recommend flowmaster 40s for deep tone but you will have drone no matter what you pick unless you keep on resonators
id like too point out that in 2005 Holden(GM Australia) started making a 3.6L V6 for the New commodore(G8 in the states) and states and caprice(caprice rebadged in the states as a PPV caprice) and they sent some too italy in 2010 Alfa Romeo which at the time was owned by chrysler but not one alfa or italian car got the 3.6 installed but an updated 3.6 started appearing in chrysler's everywhere in 2012 right after holden updated its 3.6 (same block as the american LFX different internals and top end also less powerful but smoother) holden updated before in 2010 it was changed too some spark ignition direct injection tech bs but again in 2012 (updated electrics and tune and removed e85 compatibility cause it gave it too much more power for people licence restrictions) right before the chryslers started appearing with the 3.6. and i cant find any official connections between holden and chrysler
The 3.5 has headers where the 3.6 has the ports go to one 2.5in outlet on the heads so no headers to get the growl it’s all rammed together in the head causing the rasp
They scrapped the dual throttle bodies. The 3.5 found in vehicles after the Intrepid only had the dual runner intake. One throttle body, and two runner valves.

Thats surprising
2 3.6 chargers in my drive...love the power/weight. (2012, 2019) 34mpg @ 65mph in the 12 is icing on the cake.
Look at a GM 3.6, very similar design. Must have compared notes
The 3.6 has more of an "Italian" sound to it. More like you hear from Lambos and Ferraris.
stonent agreed, the 3.5 has a traditional, bassy, deeper American V6 sound to it. A lot like the old school 60 degree V6s from GM and also like the 90 degree Buick 3800 and the truck 4.3 V6s.

Stev Mayse My dad does it's a 2016 Dodge Charger SXT AWD V6 and it has plenty of power and even with the AWD he still able to do a little Burn out.
CJ Colvin
That's because the awd system isn't all the time. The front axle disconnects to save fuel. It kicks in when the rear wheels lose traction. If it was permanent awd...a burnout is near impossible. Unless you are able to disconnect the front axle with a tune as most new systems are electronically controlled.

^beat me to it....
Part of the reason the 3.6 sounds different is because of the DOHC set up, the intake manifold, and most importantly the fact that the 3.6 Does NOT have traditional exhaust manifolds. On the 3.6 the exhaust manifold is cast into the heads so all the exhaust merging and scavenging is done IN THE HEAD (which is why you can't get headers) where as the 3.5 has an external exhaust manifold (the style we all know and think of) and all the exhaust merging and scavenging is done there
I have the 3.6 in my charger, it gets good gas mileage, and has decent power, but it will never be a hemi.
You should be happy to have what you have.
Mathew Hastings exactly. I’m proud of the V6 but realize it will never be a “fast” car
Lol
Marspeed I hate when people say this. Yes, the 3.6 isn't as fast as a Hemi but for a daily driver that comes stock at 305hp, it's definitely not slow especially after a few mods.
And it can be made to sound good. Check my page for sound clips. I get compliments on mine all the time. It's not ever going to sound like a hemi but you can make them more aggressive with the right setup.
@@Fade2BlackSS There are many who daily V8s so that mindset is nearly null. Certainly far from universal.

Then they better plan on one with separate exhaust ports, because turbo exhaust will melt aluminum.
I have a 2017 SXT GT and my super 10 set up sounds close to your exhaust output
Its honestly just the 8 speed transmission that makes the 3.6 faster
David Brown very true that thing is a beast
Very true, and better mpg, but the 8 speed is junk! Shifting sucks big time, and always has problems. On my 3rd tranny at 56k. Not right!!
Mike 201 the 8 speed used in most new RWD cars. In addition to FCA, BMW, Jaguar, Audi, VW, Bentley, Aston Martin, and even Rolls Royce uses this transmission.
that's bullshit, but its a great transmission its used in quite a few expensive cars.
Hello Drewsey5733
For the most part, the pentastar is a very reliable and durable engine.
I asked him how often he changed all his vehicle fluids and this what he stated: Engine oil and filter- every 4k miles-5k miles with 5w30 not 5w20 synthetic Pennzoil;
Transmission fluid- every 45k miles including the filter
Engine coolant flushed- every 90k miles
Battery terminal service- every year before winter
Wipers-every 6 months
Front and rear caliper service-every 25k miles
Wheel alignment- every 25k miles
Tires rotated-every 7k miles
Tires replaced -all seasons replaced every 125k - 150k miles; snows- every 120k - 130k miles-(2x)
A/c serviced and checked once a year before summer-never replaced a single component
Fuel injection flush and throttle body serviced- every 40k-50k miles
and last but not least he flushed the power steering and brake fluid every 50k miles!
He has it detailed and polished once a year including the interior and rust proofed and checked every year
Now that is how you take care of a vehicle regardless if it has a terrible reputation or not
By the way, I have been working at this place since 2023 and I haven't seen Toyotas Siennas with this kind of mileage.
I think the 3.5 sounds so much better than the 3.6
That mf sounds nasty , i miss my 300m , i had a flow master 80series 1in 2 out
The best version of the 3.5 was the 300m version. Deep exhaust burble, more torque down low than the 3.6, & 7000 rpm redline. It's 4 speed was very inefficient though. The Charger/300 3.5 was tuned for less performance in a heavier platform that was also hampered by the transmission.
There is a supercharger kit for the 3.6
Put a solo performance cyclone Catback exhaust on the 3.6 and it will sound a little less aggressive than The 5.7 Hemi. Way more aggressive then the 3.5

As for reliability, early 2012-'13 Pentastars had issues with defective left cylinder head. 2014 had an issue with the oil filter/cooler housing leaking oil all over the top of the motor. Sound difference is easy tonexplain: direct injection in the 3.6....sounds exactly the same as the 3.6 by direct injections as GM came out with.
Why am I watching this I drive a Mitsubishi 🤔
Funny!!
Maybe you have a Mitsubishi Galant with a V6, so it would be relevant.
@@mvnorsel6354 Eclipse with the 6G75 3.8 V6. Don't believe Chrysler had anything to do with it
@@manfromnantucket9544 No it was all a Mitsubishi design.
God forbid you mentioned the 2.7 doesn't deserve recognition
It’s crazy how a Saturn aura has a 3.5 to !!
I have a RT Journey 2010 3.5 . I love!
I believe the sound difference is that the 3.6 has in-header exhaust configuration. meaning that there is just one hole per side for the exhaust to leave the engine... ive tried to look whats it calls and have failed... lol
i have a 3.5 from 08 and let me say the only problems i’ve had were thermostat and trans issues
3.5 sounds good!
I have a Pypes catback on my 2010 se and it’s plenty loud, it’s got a nice growl to it too
Its the crank shaft. Like how the newer vetts have a flat plane crank shaft so does the 3.6
most engine sound difference is the exhaust + muffler used. Many people can remove / add a resonator to change the raspy sound
Please do a video on 3.5 cutouts and how they work and info, think people would love to see that, raced one today with them electric opened
Good idea man will try to work on something like that
Marspeed I'll be watching for it, I found a shop to install it so I'm going to order mine this week
So, performance is all in the exhaust note?
wow, such an extremely helpful vid, thank you!
JR007 glad it was helpful :)
3.6 cars have supercharger/pro charger choices. $5500 and you can bolt on a RIPP kit at home. I don't think I've ever seen a kit for the 3.5l (I'm sure someone can find one, I just never seen one.)
Connor James I know the 3.5 has some superchargers available but can’t remember which one. The Ripp 3.6 one is pretty awesome
I say they both still sound good.
So do these 3.6s have custom exhaust? Cuz my 2019 pentastar is quiet as hell
Always wondered what that big M emblem stood for on Dodge vehicles like the Charger @ 3:50
Nice comparison video, good job
DSW Joyride Productions thanks!
Good video! 😙
I'm about to buy one. I can't wait to find ways to make a V6 sound like a V8.
Never will sound like one
id like too point out that in 2005 Holden(GM Australia) started making a 3.6L V6 for the New commodore(G8 in the states) and states and caprice(caprice rebadged in the states as a PPV caprice) and they sent some too italy in 2010 Alfa Romeo which at the time was owned by chrysler but not one alfa or italian car got the 3.6 installed but an updated 3.6 started appearing in chrysler's everywhere in 2012 right after holden updated its 3.6 (same block as the american LFX different internals and top end also less powerful but smoother) holden updated before in 2010 it was changed too some spark ignition direct injection tech bs but again in 2012 (updated electrics and tune and removed e85 compatibility cause it gave it too much more power for people licence restrictions) right before the chryslers started appearing with the 3.6. and i cant find any official connections between holden and chrysler
