The 92 Team embraced their roles instantly. Barkley, Mullin, and Magic were major offensive focal points. Those guys had defensive limitations, so they had to earn it on O to not be a waste of a roster spot. In contrast, guys like David Robinson, Pippen, Ewing, and Drexler were obviously incredibly talented offensive players, but for the good of the team, they went all in on embracing role player roles and willingly focused on “the little things” and mostly only ever called for the ball to punish opponents for giving up big matchup+position advantages. MJ and the Mailman were the only real big time two-way Dream Team players, iirc. And note that those two had absolutely legendary levels of physical fitness. They went balls-to-the-wall for every moment that they were on the court. In contrast, some of the star players of this year’s team didn’t settle into their roles nearly as easily. Steph is like Barkey and Mullin in having inherent defensive limitations. He should have been an/the offensive focal point whenever he was on the floor. Instead, Steph’s teammates missed seemingly countless opportunities to set picks and clear space for him. With the 1992 team, Ewing and Robinson seemed to revel in defending, rebounding, and setting picks to spring Barkley, Mullin, and Magic free. With the 2024 team, our guys had to worry about getting Embiid enough post touches to keep him from losing focus. Jrue, Bam, and Derrick White embraced their role player roles, but they’re basically role players anyway. Not the same caliber of player as the 1992 Dream Team “role players.” Of the real stars on the 2024 team, only Devin Booker and maybe AD did what Pippen, Drexler, Ewing, and Robinson did and truly thrived as stars going all-in as role players (but with the reserve ability to completely destroy opponents who ever willingly gave away too much in matchup and on-court positioning). Ant Edwards is probably the only 2024 player with the ability to be a two-way balls-to-the-wall player like MJ and Malone in 1992. Would have liked to see him step up. Bron and KD seemed to be trying to play as two-way guys, but they don’t have prime MJ/Mailman motors anymore. They probably needed to play more offense-first like Magic, Mullin, and/or Barkley (as appropriate). Bron, KD, and Steph needed to man up as leaders and demand that the offense go through the three of them while making it clear that guys like Embiid and Tatum needed to focus on the little things and like it.
The reason the 92 Dream Team was assembled was…our college boys couldn’t beat the National Teams of Europe, national teams that had NBA players on it, old guys in their 30s, the Dream Team was our version of a Professional Team and we all saw the results from our professional vs the world’s professional teams😂
They forget before that 92 team we were losing in the Olympics, that’s why they needed them to play. So those foreign teams weren’t as sorry as they try to make it seem.
And basketball is a game of margins. Even the worst team in the nba can beat the best team. Some nights you can’t miss and some you can’t hit. Talent matters but nmw anything can happen.
I think this Olympics proved that the gap between the USA Basketball and the rest of the world is getting smaller. USA will still be the favourite in the future but the rest of the world is catching up fast.
The problem for the US is only at the center position. America just doesn't have any dominant bigs. Every US center for the past ten years have been trash.
Well the league has shifted to euro style so the centers are now sfs and shooting.. but I think Jared Allen jj from Memphis Myles turner would be good enough to win gold
Dream Team, changed Basketball worldwide, it open the doors to what we know and watch today. It’s unfair to compare, because it’s a different era, decades apart. Dream Team is immortalized.
Yup, it’s just impossible to compare two entirely different teams, entirely different eras and just entirely different worlds at the time. Basketball was still new to the world in 92 while players all around the world are now becoming NBA caliber players.
Are y'all saying LeBron triple double didn't count??? I get what Curry did but Bron was always there holding it down... You don't have Bron, you're not in these games late...
I was watchin Rob Parker talkin about Steph being clutch with the analytics. As i was listening I was thinking exactly what Gil was saying Steph had an answer for every French shot and tha last one it doesnt get any more clutch. My point is hoopers know but media is in it for a hot take they want tha loud disagreement. Gil your take on being clutch was right on point🇺🇲🏀🥇✌️
We can’t underestimate how much easier it is for other countries to plan against the US as opposed to 32 years ago. Other countries can staff entire scouting teams to help plan against the US team whereas global internet and global broadcasting didn’t even really exist in ‘92.
Yes we got young up and coming by guys but no dominant guy that can lead other than Anthony edwards. We got more depth but our killers are gone. France and Germany are coming
The 92 Dream Team is the Mayweather argument. People discredit Floyd because he didn’t fight BIG enough names but he whooped everyone. So I guess he did what he was supposed to do. Likewise, if 92 whooped everyone by an average of 44. While NEVER calling a timeout then they did what they were supposed to do. 2024 team had 4 MVPS in the starting lineup should have some impact on dominating the game. We were all ready supposed to win but they didn’t dominate. Not to mention they didn’t play all 40 plus NBA players themselves. Then also look at the “Pros” they went against. Them games shouldn’t have been close. I don’t think it’s so much the world got better more than the USA underperforming.
People don't normally call Mayweather the "greatest" because of the competition he went through, though. Maybe the most accomplished or winningest, but not the "greatest." Same way people tax Bill Russell for having 11 rings in the 50s-60s. Who you beat matters almost as much as winning.
My favorite team of all time is the Bad Boy Pistons. 46 yr old fan who thought the 80s were the greatest era of basketball in history. This is the greatest era of basketball ever! The skill level now is so much better.
The gravity that Steph gives on Team USA is something. Even if he dont make a shot, his presence himself already enough. Best recognize the best. Go back to #8..
You’re right, he wasn’t struggling. Outside of the last 2 games Steph was absolute garbage, just awful lol, seriously bad. He found his footing and started playing like his normal self the last 2 games, but the first 4 he was nearly useless.

Not the same caliber of player as the 1992 Dream Team “role players.”
Of the real stars on the 2024 team, only Devin Booker and maybe AD did what Pippen, Drexler, Ewing, and Robinson did and truly thrived as stars going all-in as role players (but with the reserve ability to completely destroy opponents who ever willingly gave away too much in matchup and on-court positioning).
So a 40 yr old Lebron 36 Steph 35 Kd are better than a 26 yr old Lebron 22Kd 26 Carmelo with Kobe and CP3 in there primes 😂😂😂
They would be Wiser … but not Better!!!😂
Any team with Kobe and LeBron alongside each other is unfair
And Prime Wade lol
That 1st team you mentioned has 10 championships among them. That’s the difference, battle tested and championship experience.
The talent level is arguable, but in terms of how the pieces fit together, give me the Bron-Steph-KD three all day.
“Real Clutch” Fact! Speak you sh** Arenas 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
It's me or does McCant and Jennings look smacked asf 🌳🔥😅
They something, talking crazy as hell.
They def high as a mf kite 😂😂😂 I love it
I said damn he gone when they showed jennings 0:53
The reason the 92 Dream Team was assembled was…our college boys couldn’t beat the National Teams of Europe, national teams that had NBA players on it, old guys in their 30s, the Dream Team was our version of a Professional Team and we all saw the results from our professional vs the world’s professional teams😂
Mccants shirt tough 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They forget before that 92 team we were losing in the Olympics, that’s why they needed them to play. So those foreign teams weren’t as sorry as they try to make it seem.
And basketball is a game of margins. Even the worst team in the nba can beat the best team. Some nights you can’t miss and some you can’t hit. Talent matters but nmw anything can happen.
Rashad on that DOPE.. .
Hes more important than everyone (excluding Gil)..
Easy to think people on YT arent real people. Smh.. Have more respect for yourself.
@@papii_champu Get that meat out ya mouth.. Tf outta here.
@@papii_champuhow does mcants balls taste fam?
@@IsaacClark23 God bless you
I think this Olympics proved that the gap between the USA Basketball and the rest of the world is getting smaller. USA will still be the favourite in the future but the rest of the world is catching up fast.
Why is he wearing a USA hat when he clearly doesn't really support them. Even though he says a lot of shit just for clout and attention! Smh
My favorite game throughout the entire tournament was against South Sudan! That was EPIC and unexpected!
Maybe Chet can be decent, or Jalen Duren looked solid in the select team games last year
Cousins
Duren still a baby give him some time. And we still got Bam
Karl Anthony Townes who can shoot the lights out would be good in Olympic play. Chet is pretty good.
Ja and ant going to thrive in that environment we good
Dream Team, changed Basketball worldwide, it open the doors to what we know and watch today.
That lil dude is always hating.
I can’t tell if McCants is playing the heel role for content or just a real life hater? 🤔
Hes not hating usa not winning 2028 gold
Anyone for some new co-hosts, anyone???😂
We can’t underestimate how much easier it is for other countries to plan against the US as opposed to 32 years ago.
Other countries can staff entire scouting teams to help plan against the US team whereas global internet and global broadcasting didn’t even really exist in ‘92.
Basketball around the world, yes its much improved and solid. However USA Basketball is in trouble. Rashad is 100% on point.
I don't you think you however correctly. It doesn't contradict your original point.
Naw, Kerr setup to make it look close. If Tatum plays, it's USA wins by 20.
What is Rashad basing his take on?
Gold
Y’all have been saying this for 20 years. Give it a rest.
This was nice. Everybody made sense while still being able to disagree. All without yelling
Mccants is dead wrong do you not see the talent and the upcoming stars in the nba not everybody gets to get on the usa team yiu just watch💯
Without Lebron and Steph they woulda lost
Yes we got young up and coming by guys but no dominant guy that can lead other than Anthony edwards. We got more depth but our killers are gone. France and Germany are coming
@Antbeast23 idk man I think we have enough
lol what Talent coming up? Wemby, Luka, Giannis, or who?
McCants is right . USA better step it up because who’s carrying the torch once Lebron leaves? And once curry leaves it’s really a wrap
Calling Curry "Achilles" (19:23) was SO apt!!
Who didn't Floyd beat?
@@herbertdaniel4422Floyd the greatest
@@eastgate6134Floyd the Goat
Floyd fought the most world champs ever xD and Bron has played the best competition oat
They need a USA vs all the best players from other countries on one team game
Rashad Mcant is a hater…. Mad cause he was trash 🗑
My favorite team of all time is the Bad Boy Pistons. 46 yr old fan who thought the 80s were the greatest era of basketball in history. This is the greatest era of basketball ever! The skill level now is so much better.
The fact that McCants makes an Achilles and Agamemnon reference...this dude ain't what I thought he was. Bro definitely was not ALL hoops, lol
He just watched the movie Troy
@@Hail2daChief Fair. Fair. I forgot that movie existed.
Ant, Tatum, Booker, TH, PG, And more are still there. In 92 the world didn’t know much about basketball. 2024, the world has more basketball players.

Doesn't. Asterix it's facts or opinions based on facts not feelings

At the end of the day it takes a team to win. Everybody fulfilled their role and that's why they won gold.
THEY WERE TRIPLE TEAMING STEPH THE WHOLE OLYMPICS
no they were not, steph took many open shots with bigs on him

The gravity that Steph gives on Team USA is something. Even if he dont make a shot, his presence himself already enough. Best recognize the best. Go back to #8..
Steph wasn't struggling the whole Olympics. They didn't watch the games.
Yes he was
he told you his stats and you ignore it plus Steph was getting killed on defense hence why white had to play
Yes he was lmao wtf is wrong with you
You’re right, he wasn’t struggling. Outside of the last 2 games Steph was absolute garbage, just awful lol, seriously bad.
He found his footing and started playing like his normal self the last 2 games, but the first 4 he was nearly useless.
15:30 Rashad is funny lmao
Gilbert has lost credibility
How?
Mccants never had any to begin with, homeboy has NEGATIVE credibility
Shout out to Josiah looking like USA Teletubie 😂😂
