Yes,for that also u have to go through the transition state,u have to draw stereochemistry of TS according to Ur given problem, configuration of given thing and configuration of TS should match,then only Ur TS can be right,if u can try by urself,u can easily get to know, nothing to do,just apply the same method when u have CIS stereochemistry also ....more than equitorial and axial, it's better to remember like up and down for trans and up and up or down and down for cis according to me, it's just my suggestion..I hope it can be helpful to you.
