I also have a 2004 cl55 AMG and do all my work myself. The Forced Induction W215 is my dream car and at this point, I know these cars in and out. Need a hand, find me here. Great build. Have fun

I have a 2006 CL55 with 87K that is pretty rust free. I have no issues at this point but I know how maintenance intensive these cars can be. Great video- post more as you get deeper into this project.

Get that car undersealed with Dynax ASAP! It will remain rust free for the rest of its life :P

Brilliant update, really looking forward to seeing how it progresses. My 216 600 has me in a similar position corrosion wise. It's not as bad as this but it appears like it would have followed the same trajectory as this one especially around the rear subframe. I've treated what I can but there's only so much you can do under jack stands!

They do hide quite a bit unfortunately. It's only when you start digging do you get the true story. I did have another 215 at one point, and it had worse corrosion than this one.

Brush on any rust converter with tannic acid on any pitted rust and you'll be in good shape. It will convert the rust to something that you can prime with epoxy primer as you'd suggested. When it comes to working on cars, I don't miss living in London.
There's a product called fluid film which you can spray on the underside before winter. It's a self healing membrane that will help slow things down. It's not expensive.

Many thanks! We will be converting rust with deox gel (which is basically citric acid) after grinding away the majority. Once it's eaten away, we will epoxy prime as you say.
Our underbody treatment of choice in the workshop is Dynax UB and S50 for cavity treatment etc, much like fluid film. I do yearn for a dry climate when owning old cars in the UK.

@@amfautomotive5710 - Looks like fun. I'll subscribe for updates. I have an 05 CL65 and an 05 SL55. I used to also own an 05 S55 which was my daily driver but @ 174,000 miles, it was starting to have a rapid succession of ABC failures. Project cars are fun, problematic daily drivers....not so much.

Yeah there's only so much time they can be broken before it gets a bit silly. We live the v12s too! A 65 Is my daily and there is a 600 140 coupe floating around the workshop
