I suspect they will simply need the chaos emeralds to be harnessed and maybe reverse the energy absorbed somehow. As Sonic was pure of heart with chaos energy it might have a way to reverse the process or polarity, whatever the science is rather than kill him if they were to trigger the transference.
I know this is terrifying, but I absolutely love stories like this. It’s so gritty and dark and suspenseful. From what I can tell, there’s a chance sonic can make it out alive because he always does, I’m just excited to see how it happens. Maybe they have to go find shadow or something. If he is the ultimate life form, then will that energy affect him as well?

This is a Much More Horrifying Transformation than Unleashed and Honestly I don’t know how they can Stop this Monstrous Sonic,whatever Eggman did to that Emerald he infected it with Negative Energy,Killing Him would Only Transfer Someone Else,Sealing or Containing It might take A lot of Power,Controlling or Harnessing It is Out of the Window,and don’t get me started on Sacrificing One of them,No Matter What Choice they Pick It’s Going to End in Disaster and I have a Feeling Knuckles is having a Bad Idea that would Cost Everything,It’s a Very Complicated Gamble.

A bit rusty on the chaos emeralds knowledge doesn't the grey emerald
neutralize evil energy. The only viable containment I can think of since this has to do with chaos emeralds are the energy rings containment system that Dr Kintobor used in the first Sonic comic before he became Dr.Robotnik.

At least not yet. This series has thrown curve balls all the time. Mashed Tails is after all, the most clever diabolical villain Mashed has ever done who has gone through the multiverse. He may also not necessarily be this Tails, but rather is using this Tails, one never knows. I keep thinking this for some reason...

I'd say find the other emeralds and feed them to Monster Sonic. Maybe having them together could repair the one in Sonic as well as heal him and break the curse.
