When planting in the ground dig the hole and put water in it. Add the plant in and water again and add granular fertilizer and then add your garden soil and water one more time. Just so the y don't dry out. You also don't want to use plastic in your yard. It doesn't break down and isn't breathable. Use landscape fabric or cardboard if needed.

It is very pleasing to watch a young couple working in their own yard and gardens! I watched when you and your Mom did the flowers out front a while back. It all looks real good, but in the years to come it will all be so beautiful and filling out! Good work! Love it all! Start a compost area in the far back so you will have rich soil to amend your gardens with as it breaks down.

looks great! I knew that shed was going to be the cutest thing ever. Your yard is big enough that you don't have to go in a straight line. You can make some curves to give it some interest. Also, maybe consider putting some of the same plants together in a group to create a drift of the same things instead of alternating every other plant. it will make the plants that are the same look more lush and give you more of a full, cottage garden look. And you might want to invest in a drip irrigation system to prevent them from drying out in your heat. Gardens are always evolving and if you are anything like me, your garden will change over time as you learn what you like and what you don't. So glad it is turning into your dream back yard! You are doing a great job!

Looking good! Next time you’re making garden beds, look into the no dig, no till method. You basically lay down a bunch of cardboard instead of the landscape fabric and mulch on top of it. It kills the grass and the weeds, but then it breaks down and feeds the soil. I’ve loved it. It also makes it easier to plant more when you’re ready and you don’t have to go through landscape fabric.

I definitely love the continuous plant bed more. The care of a hydrangea is in it's name. They love water, and I mean daily watering. If not they lay down and get fussy. Lol. Plus they don't enjoy too much direct sun light. They like morning sun and evening shadow. I just bought my first hydrangea this year, it my favourite flower/plant. I did a lot of research before I bought it. I plan to buy more now that I know how to keep it happy. Great garden work. ☺️💐💐💐

You are doing fine. Trial and Error. My grandmother told me not every garden will turn out like you want. It is an every changing thing. You will find things that work and those that don't. Never freak out when things die out. Just try something different. Always do your research and go from there. I am 60, been in my home since 2009. It is changing every year. Some years things work great and others it changes. I am finally getting to a point where it makes since. A lot more containers, smaller beds, more plants that can handle the heat. This world changes so much and so has the gardens we plant. Nothing last forever and so change needs to happen. You will get there and it will be great. Get ready to change that garden as the years progress with the world.

    Your backyard looks good 🌺 🌱🌸 🌳 !
    Suggestions:
    1. You can make compost stalls and take your sticks, leaves, and garbage and use the broken down dirt in your plant beds and future raised gardens.
    2. You can burn your sticks into in your bonfire.
    3. Look into Hugelkultur for your future raised garden beds. You use a layer of sticks and branches at the base which breaks down overtime and helps to enrich the soil. It also helps not to have buy extra soil to fill the beds.

Dear Kayla the flower beds turned out beautiful
If you feel that some spots look bare you can plant some Boxwood bushes as they work great as “space fillers” and are very easy to maintain.
Also you can try bordering the beds with decorative bricks you can find at Lowes … there are many pretty patterns designs.
The home we bought has a mature garden in which the previous owner who was an avid gardener planted about 50 different flower bushes in the 40 years she lived here.. I felt so lost in the beginning I had no idea what I was doing… three years later now I know each variety and how to take care of them.. it’s like a magic garden … we have many variety of roses including climbing roses that climb over an arbor. Each month we get different blooms of iris azalea hydrangea .. wooded hydrangea hyacinths peonies lilacs, pow pow tree, smoke tree, and so many more.
-Look into Clematis* it’s a gorgeous huge climbing flower that loves to grow near rose bushes.
That would look lovely climbing on your fence
Also look into the beneficial Milk weed that attracts butterflies .. you woukd love those.
Anyway this comment is getting too long 🤣🤚…
You guys worked very hard on your garden and the finish product looks dreamy and will continue to be more and more magical in the years to come ❤️Keep growing❤

I invested in a chipper!!! I have a "stick pile". Every fall my husband and I rake the leaves up & put them & all the sticks/branches threw it. I mix it with the straw/shavings that come out of my chicken coop & we throe it all on our gardens, herb beds & strawberry beds.

It all looks beautiful! Great job on the new bed, and definitely looks better as one continuous bed. Your white (Annabelle, Incrediball, etc) and Limelight hydrangeas can all take full sun. The colored hydrangeas need only part sun. You’re absolutely adorable!

Hi Kayla. You can use those sticks at the bottom of your raised beds to prevent buying so much soil, and it will break down and fertilize the raised beds.

Hey Kayla & Marcus!! Ya'll doing the doggone thang out in that yard!! It's a lot of work and maintenance so slow and steady. I love all the flowers at the fence and pine straw looked better the way you did it with it filling in the whole area instead of just around. You all did a great job with planting. I have a large backyard with lots of large trees also and I know about the stick and twigs and whatever that fall from those trees. UGH! You guys are doing the right thing with putting down the weed barrier real good. Weeds will be your enemy but you are starting off right. We are in our late 50s and can't do it like you two anymore so we hire out a lot of work. I love seeing young couples build a life together and you two do an amazing job with it all.

    Hi Kayla
There’s a ground cover called ajuga ( boggle weeds) look it up really nice. Each plant spreads 6’ so you can plant them 4 feet apart and you can enjoy the flowers that spring up from them. I like the mahogany one.

Hi Kayla, you guys did an awesome job in the yard. I am happy that you decided to make a border around the perimeter of your garden bed, it looks amazing. just a suggestion, you guys should invest in a plant auger that attaches to your drill to dig holes for your flowers, > I am 63 and I use this in my small yard. I physically no longer can do the turning of the dirt and it takes a third of the time to plant my plants. I love watching your videos, I am very proud of you and your husband.

looks great love the pine straw look ! we did something similar at my moms house but with red mulch instead , consider buying spot solar light for each plant to light up ! the dollar store have cute little ones for a 1.25 or amazon have great packs for a reasonable price ! your house is looking great !

If you are going to do raised beds in your garden, the sticks and leaves can also be used in the bottom of the bed. That way, it won't take as much soil and compost to fill the bed before planting.

Love the flowers y'all went with. Grab some landscaping fabric stakes to keep the fabric down underneath the pinestraw. If y'all don't have plans to incorporate an irrigation system, please consider it for the near future. Lastly, have you thought about adding some bulbs to go in the ground/your windown boxes in the very late fall so they can bloom in the spring? Sticks: rent a chipper & make it mulch to enrich the soil for your garden bed prep.

Hi starting a raised bed gardens (veggies and fruits), and putting that at the bottom to decompose. Since you have all those pretty flowers they will attract pollinators which will help pollinate your veggies and fruits. Beautiful flower garden.

Looks amazing Kayla!! Glad you went with the look of a flower bed. If you dig a little trench around the flower beds, it should keep the mulch in place so you don’t lose too much over time. Definitely rent an augur next time y’all do a big plant job. That would save Marcus a lot time and hard work. Love all the flowers you chose. Beautiful!!

What a fabulous property you have! This is the first time I'm watching one of your videos and happy to have found you. You have so much space to compost all your leaves into leaf mold for next season and you will have gold on your hands for feeding your plants in your future raised beds. And if you are able to invest in a wood chipper you can make your own mulch from your branches. You have so much potential to allow your yard to feed and nurture itself including all the grass clippings. Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Good luck with your new gardening adventures. Remember to add some curves in your garden, create secret garden rooms. Your property is large enough, enjoy and Use it all. Add flagstone and gravel areas, take your time, you don’t have to get everything done at once. And remember gardening is never done. Enjoy the ride
