Nissan Rogue Transmission Swap - Part 4 (Installation)

  • My wife really wants her car back, so it's time to unbox the new CVT and install it on the 2010 Nissan Rogue!
As expected, assembly goes quite a bit smoother than disassembly. Make sure to clean and lube all fasteners.
In the final Part 5 to come, we will (hopefully) fire up the Rogue and get it to move under its own power. Remember, the TCM must be reprogrammed to accept the new transmission, which adds another small hurdle in the process...can we avoid a trip to the Nissan dealership?
And who is getting excited for the TEARDOWN of the old CVT?!?
    Enjoy!
    Ivan

Its nice that you had someone to help during installation. Lets say you were doing this alone. Then use an engine hanger with double arms and a strut across the firewall. One arm suspends the engine and the other suspends a small chain fall hoist. Chain the transmission to the hoist. Now, nothing can fall, you are safe working above or below and you can make micro adjustments.

Great video series...my only complaint is keeping us in suspense with a part 5! I know the amount of work it is to do this stuff and to have to mess with the camera in the middle of it would make it frustrating. Nice work!

Thanks for the comment! City or highway miles? I would seriously consider starting a separate "Nissan CVT replacement fund" for that moment when the CVT finally decides to let go...and it will eventually. You will see why I say this after the watching the "CVT teardown and analysis" video coming up soon :)

the top dowel pin aligns the transfer case halves itself, which I'm sure you figured out with it off and back side visible.
use a webbed strap without hooks to hold converter in place or if you have a bander put one around it, just untie/snip/pull out

I was on the edge of my seat just waiting for that thing to come crashing down, must have been pretty balanced on it's flat spot, how come i always get the ones with a big fat bump on the bottom of the pan. A tip sometimes you can get two long bolts cut the heads off grind them to a round point insert at 9 and 3 o'clock into the engine use as guide pins to slide tranny home. nice work, thanks for the video.

When I was a very young man I actually broke a transmission oil pump on a older Chevy Nova due the converter not being aligned properly. I thought I was lined up properly and tighten the bolts. I heard a pop that I never wanted to hear again. I did learn from my mistake, I actually made my living working as a professional mechanic and never made that mistake again. I'm now a old retired mechanic!

you can punch the rubber boot for the steering shaft into the interior. push the 3 tabs holding it in the place from underneath, then push it through the hole. it will simply fall into the drivers foot area and is easily reinstalled. this will open up the hole for the steering shaft.

I picture you cracking it open and parts and springs go flying all over the shop.
I put new bearings in a Datsun 5 speed, so I must be qualified.
My guess is clutches burnt out due to lack of changing fluid every 30,000 miles. What did the tranny fluid look like ?
Dont clean it up then show us the inside.....We want to see the good and Bad. I bet you can just clean it up inside and it should be ok.

Interesting topic of extended warranty plans: yes when you buy a new car there is an option for this but, at least in KY, when buying a used car you can purchase an extended warranty from various companies; however, it isn't totally legal and the insurance company could deny a claim on the policy. They take your $$ for the policy and you might not get to use it!!

DISCLAIMER: I am assuming this was fixed off-camera. This comment is not intended to criticize Ivan in any way, but is instead meant for educational purposes for future viewers.
What you see at 53:00 is perhaps one of the most safety-critical mistakes a mechanic can make. The brake hose, it appears, is meant to run behind the sway bar link, not in front. If the brake hose was to be left like this, and the car driven, the pressure between the brake hose and sway bar link will erode the brake hose over the next several years, leading to total, sudden brake failure of at least the front left and back right wheel.

Hey brother, is it possible to look up that serial number on the transmission anywhere ? I bought a used transmission, I’m trying to see what vehicle it came from.

Dont attempt to do the job this way if you dont want to curse yourself to death.it takes less rhen a hour to remove the front end then you slide the engine and the trainy out with your hoist at the same time .
It will slide out like butter , no need to remove the subframe , just the axels .
