Nissan Rogue Transmission Swap - Part 4 (Installation)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 чер 2017
- My wife really wants her car back, so it's time to unbox the new CVT and install it on the 2010 Nissan Rogue!
As expected, assembly goes quite a bit smoother than disassembly. Make sure to clean and lube all fasteners.
In the final Part 5 to come, we will (hopefully) fire up the Rogue and get it to move under its own power. Remember, the TCM must be reprogrammed to accept the new transmission, which adds another small hurdle in the process...can we avoid a trip to the Nissan dealership?
And who is getting excited for the TEARDOWN of the old CVT?!?
Enjoy!
Ivan - Авто та транспорт
It was a smooth and methodical transmission replacement
despite the warnings from the peanut gallery.
You are an inspiration to the do-it-yourselfers.
"SWEET" She went together very nicely! This series was fun to watch. I'm anxious and excited for part 5. Nice work Ivan!
Fantastic work Ivan! You're getting to be a very good mechanic. You seem to have a real good feel for how these parts are supposed to fit together and your manual dexterity is impressive. You are a true inspiration for the rest of us. :)
I've watched every part of this series and having done 3 of these at the shop I'm very impressed with the cut of your jib... well done Ivan.
Would love to have a tech with your skill. If you ever need a job in Toronto I'll pay top $$$.
Keep up the great vids!!
Thanks for the kind words, Frank!
I just replaced the transmission on a 2017 Rogue with a used one. Does it need to be reflashed
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast and fast is the happy spot. Great series .
HI IVAN,
YOU ARE NOT JUST SUPREME DIAGNOSTIC ENGINEER BUT ALSO THE MOST TECHNICAL INSTALLER BEYOUND WORDS DESCRITION
IN EVERY WAY YOU ARE THE SUPREME ITSELF.
THANKS FOR HELPING THE AUTOMOTIVE FIELD AND ALL OF US.
Great job Ivan. No easy feat doing this job laying on your back.
Great job ! You made it very easy to follow through the job with you . Great video through out the series ! Thank you
literally in the middle of another movie and i ge a notification for part 4! im like YESSSSSS !!!!
Thank God at least you have a friend to help.....proud of you guys.....
I enjoyed this series very much. And learned a thing or two. Also, you seem like a great friend Ivan, helping your buddy out :-)
Hey Ivan! Eventful and Detailed Video series this. Just like the Corolla and Suzuki vid series. Keep it up. thumbs up!!!
Held my breath for half of that and I wasn't even there! Lol good job Ivan and Pat :)
Its nice that you had someone to help during installation. Lets say you were doing this alone. Then use an engine hanger with double arms and a strut across the firewall. One arm suspends the engine and the other suspends a small chain fall hoist. Chain the transmission to the hoist. Now, nothing can fall, you are safe working above or below and you can make micro adjustments.
Great video series...my only complaint is keeping us in suspense with a part 5! I know the amount of work it is to do this stuff and to have to mess with the camera in the middle of it would make it frustrating. Nice work!
You are certainly no stranger to work. Not to many people would have tackled that job. Good work.
great camera work! difficult job as is. Thank you for posting
You make a difficult job look easy. I would never attempt this on our 2011 Rogue. Still going strong at 97000 miles. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for the comment! City or highway miles? I would seriously consider starting a separate "Nissan CVT replacement fund" for that moment when the CVT finally decides to let go...and it will eventually. You will see why I say this after the watching the "CVT teardown and analysis" video coming up soon :)
change your oil... At least that takes that out of the equation = cheap insurance.
Hi man bro. Fantastic job. Scaring even while watching .
One man show , all by single actor, congrats and bravo !
You done a good job on that replacement on transmission system
Nice job Ivan. Almost there!
47:00 Ivan listening to Black Sabbath.... who would've thought!!!
Great series, Most detailed and complete vid series you've made. I'm loving it!
That's a lots of works.... Good job!!!
Looking forward to part 5 Ivan!
I was sad to see that you didn’t replace the rear main seal on that engine with the transmission out.
Nice job Ivan, You are brilliant. I would change the back motor oil seal.
Great Job keep up the good work.!
Teamwork guys. Another great video
I am totally impressed Ivan l didn't think you had hard physical work in you besides diagnostics.
Kind of excited and kind of nervous. Yup, I know what you mean. Well done Ivan. Thanks!
Has to be the sexiest transmission install I've ever seen
VGAPR Garage
🤔🙄
VGAPR Garage I agree!!!
VGAPR Garage cjcc h mm mmm m
Absolutely brilliant! My kind of man; that is conscientious and wants to do it right and a smile from here to eternity. I only wish that I lived where I could hire you to do my auto maintenance. You are a cut above kind Sir.
May Jesus continue bless you with talents galore. "Caint" wait for episode 5!
Thank you for the kind words :)
Nice work! LOTS of it, too! I dread these types of jobs on modern vehicles. Used to disconnect 5 wires and have the engine out in a half hour - not anymore! Trans was even faster.
You're absolutely right in that comment you made - they just want us to throw these $40,000 vehicles in the trash after 5 years. Sad times we live in.
5 years! more like 3 yrs
the top dowel pin aligns the transfer case halves itself, which I'm sure you figured out with it off and back side visible.
use a webbed strap without hooks to hold converter in place or if you have a bander put one around it, just untie/snip/pull out
good video Ivan
Top notch Ivan!
Awesome job for being on the floor. I’ve got a 16 Rogue 146000 miles
All kinds of transmission codes. Yeh it needs to go.
Very good vid
Nice Job!
You and the skinny medic could be brothers. Good work. Not something I would do now a days it’s at least a week after every day just to recuperate from getting up and down.
You make it look easy!
Great job!
Good job....... guys
Great videos, thanks
Great work they make an aftermarket cooler that has fittings for an external oil cooler for the transmission I would have definitely added that
I was on the edge of my seat just waiting for that thing to come crashing down, must have been pretty balanced on it's flat spot, how come i always get the ones with a big fat bump on the bottom of the pan. A tip sometimes you can get two long bolts cut the heads off grind them to a round point insert at 9 and 3 o'clock into the engine use as guide pins to slide tranny home. nice work, thanks for the video.
Guide pins would be a great idea! I'll try that next time...have to do a trans swap very soon on my old Mazda MPV :)
you should mark each bolt after you torque it so you know you finished it. I give you props. I'd never tackle this job.
Super fine job, nice an smooth, at least that's what I show on my videos when I do them LOL. Seriously nice job. Oh Torque Specs, Anti-Seize and Blue Locktite are your friends in these complex projects and I would have changed the starter or any hard to get to items while I was in there. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
DUDE YOU ARE A Beast................. Love the vid excellent..
I did a similar job on a Nissan Quest when I was around 20, on the floor and with jacks like this. Now I'm 25 and I don't think I would want to do it again lol. The good ol aging process..
Try it at 65.
Best Vid I have Watched in a Long Time, I got The AWD Juke SL... So I'm starting to save..
Never hurts to be prepared lol!
Oh, to be young again. You have no idea how much harder doing a job like this will be when you're approaching the age of 70. I think that's what I like best about your videos, they remind me of me, when I could do things like this without glasses and looking for something to grab to help get off the floor.
Funny I made almost the same comment in part 3. I feel the same way as you do about what I consider "bigger" jobs! Oh and I am even a quite few years away from 70 and feel the same way.
Funny...Its not the getting down, its the getting up off the floor. Gotta get a lift.Wonder if my Doc will write a script . Remember bouncing off the floor, My Dad used to say I spent more time under my car then in my car. Not so much nowadays !!
Did this job the same way at 65.
nice work ,waiting for result..
Felicidades; miré todo el procedimiento desde que inició el 1/er. Video es excelente uno de los mejores, mi reconocimiento y admiración eres buen Mecànico, me suscribo y manita arriba saludos desde Sonora México
when I worked at a garage we use to turn the flywheel with a screwdriver while gently pushing box in
can we all agree that cvt's the best way to learn about car maintenance
Imagine how nice this swap would go with a proper lift and trans jack! Doing this in a garage on jack stands is a job I would not tackle.
When I was a very young man I actually broke a transmission oil pump on a older Chevy Nova due the converter not being aligned properly. I thought I was lined up properly and tighten the bolts. I heard a pop that I never wanted to hear again. I did learn from my mistake, I actually made my living working as a professional mechanic and never made that mistake again. I'm now a old retired mechanic!
haha, i can hear the sound mentally.
Yea, that popping sound is still in head this very day.. LOL That was the days when I didn't even have a jack, I swear I had to lay the transmission on my chest and arch my spine to raise the transmission to get it lined up. It hurts me to think about it, and I had to do it twice. :-)
Well done Ivan it was anticlimactic which is just what it should be. It was a good thing to have Pat there sometimes it is way easier with two people, the moral support doesn't hurt either.
I saved the "big bang" for Part 5...oh and then the teardown!
Hot dog
YOU THE MAN !
keep the wife happy like part 5 the test drive are you and the wife thinking about other nissan car hope not wonder if those extended warranty they try to sell would be a good idea if wifey wants another one
You got game Ivan! Great job and video. One suggestion would be consider to replace the starter while you had everything apart. At 180k, it can fail at any time. Not trying to criticize, only an observation.
Great job, Gentlemen.
Excellent.
Nice job Ivan. Do you ever spray fluid film on the bolts to stop aluminum to steel corrosion?
Great work! I bet "big nasty" would've knocked that transfer case off the old trans in about 1/2 a second....lol
Or cracked the aluminum case in half...but yeah something would definitely give haha
Great video! I have a question for you. You mentioned needing to get the dealer to "Re-flash" it once your done. What it that all about if you don't mind? I'm just curious about that because I have never heard about needing to do that before. Thanks for the great videos and for showing the entire process!
Haha, not sure if it's the video sync, but it looks like you torque the wheels to a click and about 30 degrees after the click.
Few things are more satisfying to look at than a clean aluminum casting. Beautiful material.
I was surprised to see that on a "rebuilt" unit. Looked like a new part.
Me too. It looks downright fresh. They must put the castings through some kind of chemical bath before they install the components.
you can punch the rubber boot for the steering shaft into the interior. push the 3 tabs holding it in the place from underneath, then push it through the hole. it will simply fall into the drivers foot area and is easily reinstalled. this will open up the hole for the steering shaft.
Great tip. Why didn't I think of that?
alternately, a piece of tubing/rubber hose to lengthen it some works for doing them yourself. I hate removing those boots, major hassle on some cars :)
nice work there, those diagnostic videos make my brain hurt.
I know there are always problems with designs, as far as working on cars, But If you think about what it takes to design and build a dependable car its really mind blowing. Just look at that transmission. I bet if you could ever find out what actually went wrong, it would be the same with ever one of the same type, probably a 4 dollar part. Nice Job
Charles, we will do a full scientific teardown and analysis of the old CVT :)
Bet you its something cheap, but not available. Where are the Chinese when you really need em.
You will have to give me a price estimate on rebuilding this unit after watching the teardown ;)
Yea, I will rebuild it and give you a Taillight Warranty, when I see your taillights , your warranty is over.
I picture you cracking it open and parts and springs go flying all over the shop.
I put new bearings in a Datsun 5 speed, so I must be qualified.
My guess is clutches burnt out due to lack of changing fluid every 30,000 miles. What did the tranny fluid look like ?
Dont clean it up then show us the inside.....We want to see the good and Bad. I bet you can just clean it up inside and it should be ok.
Cant wait. Nothing you cant fix :)
That's why Eric O says never pull the cases together with the bolts . You did it right and didn't force it.
Hi mate that’s a lot of hard work without shop facilities!
How long would it take a dedicated trans shop for removal and then install of the cvt trans...8hrs removal then 8hrs install? ....and the rebuild of the cvt with new pulleys/belt etc...another 8hrs...
Cliffhanger!
Every job goes easier with some bangin' choons playing the background... :D
Interesting topic of extended warranty plans: yes when you buy a new car there is an option for this but, at least in KY, when buying a used car you can purchase an extended warranty from various companies; however, it isn't totally legal and the insurance company could deny a claim on the policy. They take your $$ for the policy and you might not get to use it!!
at my old shop i put the top of a broken stand up transmission jack on my floor jack it actually worked well for doing tranny jobs on the ground
they used to sell transmission jack add-on "kits" that did exactly that, remove cup from jack and it bolted through the hole, problem was, not very stable, unless you have a massive dinosaur model that weights a ton :)
You mentioned if the reman is in the US. It is in the US as I noticed the Trans pan is now SAE 3/4 and other bolts are NOT Metric.
am about to do the same job on a Nissan Murano do you need programming..? And can I use the maxsys autel mini 905 to program the TCM.
I sure do thank you for your videos this one saved me about $2500. Ivan how did you get away without taking it to the dealer to program? They told me not to even start the car and have it towed to them.
Nice work Bro...I'm currently replacing a clutch in a 2011 Ford Focus...had to drop the subframe...I opened up the clutch and the pressure plate was broken into 3 pieces and there is some damage to the inside of the bell housing...I think the mechanic my sister had replace the clutch installed some incorrect parts...I'll try to post a video cause the clutch carnage is cray
wow that sounds like a fun job too...carnage is always fun to fix lol
probably the right parts, but used cheapest chinesium junk, it pays to use OEM factory on things like that :)
also, how did they go through two clutches so fast, good grief!
DISCLAIMER: I am assuming this was fixed off-camera. This comment is not intended to criticize Ivan in any way, but is instead meant for educational purposes for future viewers.
What you see at 53:00 is perhaps one of the most safety-critical mistakes a mechanic can make. The brake hose, it appears, is meant to run behind the sway bar link, not in front. If the brake hose was to be left like this, and the car driven, the pressure between the brake hose and sway bar link will erode the brake hose over the next several years, leading to total, sudden brake failure of at least the front left and back right wheel.
It's not a job you want to do everyday but saving thousands of dollars is worth it!
Bet the wife will be happy to get her vehicle back. Did you trade labor to get your buddy to help. Hes lucky his saab is a bit older as the newer ones have a mess for security I see them every now and then
Its a known issue.. often the caps in the siren module in the front inner liner are bad and need to be replaced.
How long till your back in there for that starter?
Hey i'm at the the point of putting back together the steering and the the part thats coming through the boot is coming up short where it can't slide in the clamp, is there something i did wrong?
did your motorcyclist magazine sticker on the toolbox fade right away
To do this job off the floor is incredible, awesome. I wonder if there is an adapter for the floor jack for a transmission lift?
I was thinking of making one, but that center bolt doesn't come out easily...
Some jacks have them
Wow from start to finish an top off transfer case an set correct cvt transmission fluid level program and set calibration data plus alignment. In the time uv taken iv could had 4 id not 5 of those transmission replaced program an calibrated and alignment done
Very nice :)
Hey i have a 08 Nissan rogue 2.5 sl and I was wondering if Valvoline ns2 cvt transmission fluid is fine in this transmission
Haven't seen a Casco digital watch in about 35 years.
awesome job ivan!! How about air conditioning for your garage next? I'm sure you could build something yourself! lol
I love the fresh air, even if it's hot and muggy :)
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics come to Missouri where it's 94° and about 97% humidity and it's only June...lol
I have a 2009 Nissan rogue 02 wheel drive 4 cylinder automaticand I'm pulling a cold that says p0840 can you please tell me where the hell is the pressure switch transmission sensor located
Hi Ivan, how is this transmission holding up? I just did the same thing to my Fusion hybrid.
jt keep wacking it harder hahahahaha but anyhow u are awsome i wish we had tech like u here in my area
LOL I cracked up at that too after I said it xD
Hey brother, is it possible to look up that serial number on the transmission anywhere ? I bought a used transmission, I’m trying to see what vehicle it came from.
Dont attempt to do the job this way if you dont want to curse yourself to death.it takes less rhen a hour to remove the front end then you slide the engine and the trainy out with your hoist at the same time .
It will slide out like butter , no need to remove the subframe , just the axels .
Good morning friend, greetings. 2013 or 14 AWD transmission apply to 2009 nissan rogue?.
How much did the new CVT cost? How much did it cost to flash?
Why use a torque wrench when you are torqueing the whells well past the click of the wrench???
