Roman Serrano had no clue of what is DMC.. this is not Ibiza! wrong place wrong time. Also... took him 3 minutes to sync the damn record which shows he didn't practice what he was gonna play. 3 fucking years to adjust the pitch. Feel sorry for him.
The Austrian dj made my day !!! You're not in a house music nightclub... What was he thinking about ? Not even scratch for 1 sec... Or he made a joke/stupid challenge with his friends...
The best DJ of this competition was Roman Zerano from Austria... Pity that he not even had time to finish a simple mix that was still off-sync...unbelievable...pure genius! 🤣
It's not because of Traktor or virtual djing. In fact, Traktor and serato dj are the reason why they started to reproduce the Technics turntables. The real reason is that we over produce things....always! Technics turntables last forever. So what are they going to do when everyone already has 2 of them? And they got a warehouse full of brand new turntables that they can't sell. Rather than lower the price to sell them. They stop production, take the money, and run. Especially when you sell out to branding and licensing with corps like Panasonic. They for sure are going to pull the plug. We do the same with cellphones today. And we fall for it every year. If we stop buying a new iPhone every year....the price will either drop drastically, or they'll stop making new phones every 6 months. Same for cars, too. We humans must have the newest thing out today. Just to look cool? Or bragging rights. Because of that we pay more and more money every time. But if we stop buying shit.... Prices will either drop or they'll stop over producing. They would rather ruin the new products and throw them in the trash than drop the prices to sell. They do it all the time at Walmarts, targets, etc.
idk what you're talkin about, i watched this back in 2004 and over and over again, and dj manchoo always was a favorite of mine. he may have lost but he was sure good. this year was my favorite of all the years...so many good djs
@killthepixelnow i couldn't agree more, part of the dj culture is not only changing records during the set but also spending hours in record stores digging in crates looking for that ultimate break or sample, this new digital stuff takes away some of the need of skill hence making it slightly easier
I've been using a couple Vestax PDX-2000mk2's, but I needed some money and sold them. About 5 years ago (while I was still using the Vestax decks) I bought a Tech 1200mk2 off this guy because he gave me a great deal. So now I only have the 1200mk2 with an M447 cart, but if seems super sensitive and it skips a lot. The spindle is tight, and the gimbal system seems to be tight, so why is this thing skipping so much?
Usually yes, in competitions they will use a spherical needle (usually a Shure M447, Ortofon DJ or Scratch or a Stanton 520), with the tonearm weighted for extra downforce and the anti skate control turned off. Should eliminate skipping but it does put extra pressure on the vinyl and the needle.
Mark Tolley Thanks for the input man, I really appreciate it. I've been scratching on a Vestax PDX-2000 pro that I got several years ago, but I recently bought a Tech 1200 in good condition at reasonable price. So many people love these turntables, I've even seen comments where people say there isn't any other turntable worth using. So out of curiosity, I bought a Tech just to see what all the fuss was about. The build quality definitely seems better than my Vestax, but aside from that it seemed like the 1200 was a pain in ass to scratch with. So I started watching videos about how people set them up for beat juggling and scratching and I've managed to get mine reasonably skip prof, but it still doesn't come close to my Vestax. I don't regret buying it though because it forces me to become much smoother when scratching. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it's "personality".
redirishmanxlt Before being discontinued, the Technic 1200 was the industry standard which all other turntable companies have tried to emulate, with a couple of brands including Vestax having success with quality decks. As far as scratching, they're the best turntable for the job. There's a reason the Technic 1200 has been the turntable of choice in the world dj championships (DMC) for the past 30 years and running.. I'm not sure why yours is acting that way, but here are some tips to try (how I set my turntables up) : Set the height adjustment of the back of the tone arm at 2, the anti skate at 0, and turn the stylis on the cartridge at a 20 degree angle, going to the left side (your right side if your standing in front of the deck). You will have to loosen, then re-tighten the screws on the cartridge in order to adjust the stylis. That should help a lot..give it a try, good luck. Mysterio 'The 1st Artificially Evolved Man'
Turntablism is a form of art. Changing vinyls and synching the tempo is not an easy thing. It is really sad to see nowadays tons of "DJs" using those horrific digital machines where everything is loaded into a laptop. Where's the challenge?
I use traktor but I use my real vinyl ax much as I can. The real challenge isn't really challenging a record, it's all in the pitch / tempo, most djs have the sync button pressed the entire way which I think counts as cheating
I use the technics sl dz1200's (closest i could afford to vinyl) but i love them because you can leave the instant change button off, and do it all pretty much manual, the only things i don't do manual are the bpm counter (shit on the sl dz1200's anyway so i hardly look at it even though i's usually wrong) and pressing the cue button (as if i was picking the needle up and placing it at my piece of tape) i feel the challenge hones my skills and people are getting de-skilled going off a laptop, during my time i have learnt all sorts of fun things, but i just like doing it for the love of the music really.
Dj Zelous i'm also against sync buttons, but how can you call it a cheat, then all that matters is the music. It's sad, but Technique is not important anymore.
+Iamyouonlydifferent Changing records isn't a skill? I think it takes skill to change a record on time and place the needle in the groove without a sticker also if beat matching is so easy, why did they make a sync button for?
the challenge is to be creative with what you have. if you gonna play a simple 2 deck dj set with a midi controller, than i'm sorry you are not a dj - you are a selector. picking the right tracks to play is also not an easy job, but if you are using a midi controller you have to do much more than to mix 2 tracks...
Roman Zerano - Austria at 22.03 worst entrant ever. Only tries to beatmatch 2 house tracks and even manages to fuck that up lol.
+MrShowbizben I was there and saw this. We all just stopped and looked at each other. He didn't come back out for his second set. Poor guy.
damn, that was whack, im ashamed that austria is my homecountry, check out kapazunda, dj chrisfader or dj testa, they should have entered instead
Art of dj competition! Miss my vinyl days!

The best... ja, ja, ja, :-)
Poor Roman Zerano! Clearly has no idea what turntablism is...
Mark Tolley And he just about ready to mix & he hears TIME ROMAN ZERANO ! Some say that first record is still spinning in 2015 !
DMCs started to suck the minute people started using battle records and doing EDM-sounding stuff.
the austrian dj mightve been the worst , but he mightve been throwin back to the original meaning behind D.M.C ..DISCO MIX CLUB.
Can anyone explain me what Roman Zerano did ?
nothing, he tried to beat match and it seems he started to mix it but ran out of time. Very confusing
22:10 ....WRONG PLACE NIGGUH.... !!!!!
And still not in the mix at the end LOOOOOOOOOOOL
LOL, I actually just scrolled to that point, he is literally mixing! How did he get to the stage though?
What is he fucking doing !!!!!!??????????
That was fucking strange, he played half a record. Thats it.
my nephew ask to me where´s the laptop and why they changes the vinyl code everytime LOL
+Butta Flutta absolutely.
you made that up
Those were the good times when turntablism and dj'ing were actually an art done with vinyls and both decks.
And in front of a live audience
Why Panasonic stopped this legendary iconic timeless turntable..... I am very upset.....

The Canadian brace routine 1:03:57 is a good composition!
the dj from Austria just disrespected himself and the art form took him 3 min to try mix a track
even Tony cut him short
I never say nothing bad about anyone but that lad from Norway what a dj.
Maybe it's time to rewire the earth cable?

I've never seen any record skips in these DMC competitions. How the fuck is that possible? Are these 1200's set up differently for competition?
What needles do you use? There are some better than others for different kind of dj applications.
