Tkay Maidza looks back on her personal growth

2018 saw the release of Last Year Was Weird Vol. 1, the start of Tkay Maidza's hip-hop trilogy. The Australian rapper moved to LA, tasted the creative freedom, and finished the last EP of the series. A series in which she displays her growth, both as a person and as a musician. ‘A lot of the topics on the first EP are very existential,’ she says in this interview with Sagid Carter. ’The second one is less “where am I?’ and more “What’s outside?”. I’m way more curious on the second EP. This last EP is about owning that power, but also about saying goodbye to how it used to be. I could have made all the songs big and bold, but I wanted to tell a story. That’s the whole point of the trilogy, to make it feel like an evolution.’
