    Frédéric, thanks for all your work on converting Pianobook libraries to Decent Sampler format. I'm on Linux (I'm the lead author of the open source, cross-platform DAW Ardour (also the basis for Mixbus)), and it has opened up a new world of libraries for users on this platform. Fantastic stuff. But I just wanted to let you know that even though Labs instruments are gratis, they are not libre, and more specifically, they are not available for people that use Linux. It's not a big deal, but it does make some of your pairings of DS+Labs here invoke a little sadness that we can't get such lovely timbres.

      Hi Paul! Thank you for your message! I'm sorry to hear about LABS instruments not available on Linux platform. Maybe you should try to ask on the new Spitfire forum if a Linux LABS plugin is something in the pipeline or not :)

      Hmm... with the latest wine-staging 7.10, and yabridge 3.8.1, Spitfire LABS works just fine in Ardour 6.9 on my Xubuntu 22.04 machine. Unfortunately, soon as I loaded DecentSampler, Ardour crashed. Looks like it's time do do some debugging and see if I can't catch some forensic detail for you. :)

      @@mrz80 yeah spitfire plugins work surprisingly well with yabridge. So that's an option for people that don't mind using non libre stuff.

      Do you have suggestions in the way of this? I'm interested in string vsts. One of the downsides that prevents me from using Ardour is how it doesn't behave well with pipewire and so my midi devices need to be selected and routed within Ardour. Huge pain when you have to do this on 2 diff spots, 1 within Ardour every day. Anyway great work on Ardour and I hope you and other contributors keep it up. I would like to be able to use it, that's just the one thing holding me on Reaper for this

    there's something that doe'nt work for me with the pitch shift trick in cubase, i have change to the semitones desired but somehow i don't have the sound you have, is there any particular tool you would recommend for pitch shifting in cubase ? Because the one interated is really bad and seems to consume a lot of computer energy...
    Did you made that pitch change directly on decent Sampler ? Would love to have an answer :)
    Also how did you merged all those tracks in one ? is this something specifically related to decent sampler that you did ?
    Great video btw :)

Yes... there are beautiful Pads... which at one time were harder to find. I so appreceate using DecentSampler as a Drag&Drop Host... So nice.

    • @frpoirier
      @frpoirier  3 роки тому +3

      Sure! I have 1TB of storage in my MacBook Pro (a quite expensive option at the time, but it worth it) and a 1TB USB-C SSD SanDisk Extreme. I keep everyday samples/libraries on the internal drive, and the more heavy/exotic libraries on the external drive, e.g. BBCSO Core on the internal, BBCSO Pro on the external drive.

    Bonjour Frédéric, et merci pour cette formidable vidéo très inspirante pour la composition. Je suis moi-même pianiste compositeur, et je voulais savoir si tu avais la gentillesse en MP de m'expliquer le layering Pitch/transpose de Henson, je ne suis pas arriver à trouver la vidéo à ce sujet. Après avoir acheté pas mal de librairies pour trouver le son de cordes que je cherche, je suis tombé hier soir sur SSS de Keen, et j'avoue qu'il est exactement ce que je cherchais. Mais avec ton layering, plus l'ajout des cordes de labs, cela rend tout incroyablement réaliste et imparfait comme il faut. Au plaisir de te lire en MP quand tu auras le temps. Merci encore pour ta vidéo, et tes instrus ;)

    • @frpoirier
      @frpoirier  2 роки тому

      Bonsoir ! Merci pour ton très gentil commentaire. Voici la vidéo de Christian à propos du Pitch/Transpose ua-cam.com/video/NttVKFJSXXQ/v-deo.html l'idée est de faire jouer un autre sample sur la même note, pour avoir deux échantillons différents à la même tonalité. L'effet recherché est plus de texture et d'épaisseur au son. Sur ma version "Multi" de Soft Strings Spurs - Swells de Dan Keen, quand la mod wheel est à 100%, il y a 4 samples qui jouent la même note, donc une impression de petit ensemble/quatuor qui marche très bien avec LABS Strings. A tester sur d'autres types d'instruments, Christian le fait par exemple sur un de mes instruments, ASAT Classic Variations, dispo sur Pianobook. Merci encore pour ton message !

    Merci beaucoup pour tout ce travail méticuleux. Grace à tes efforts, les musiciens qui travaillent sur iOS sont en mesure d'augmenter considérablement leurs palettes sonores. Envisages tu toujours de convertir les instruments Kontakt en format DS sampler ? Et sais tu si il y a un moyen sur le site de piano Book de rechercher les instruments par format. Peut-être que quelque chose m'a échappé, mais C'est assez fastidieux de retrouver les instru DS sampler

    • @peterlepahin
      @peterlepahin 3 роки тому +1

      Il faut checher sur le format EXS24 et la plupart seront là en format DS (pas tous). Il y aura un nouveau site Pianobook qui permettra de checher sur DS aussi. Tu peux checher sur le format seulement après avoir sélectionné le type de l'instrument en haut (p.ex. Pianos).

    • @frpoirier

      Merci Jean-François ! J'ai découvert par les nombreux retours que j'ai eu qu'il y a effectivement une belle communauté de créateurs de musique sur iOS. Concernant les instruments Kontakt, je ne m'y suis pas encore penché, mais je sais qu'un autre membre de Pianobook a converti presque 90 pianos de Kontakt vers DecentSampler !
