Saturday Disney and Gimme 5 clips (11/6/94)

- A nice long chunk from the morning of Saturday, 11th June (I think), 1994, which begins with some Saturday Disney before going into Gimme 5 with Nobby the Sheep. Guest of honour on both is newlywed Dannii Minogue, but keep an eye out also for the likes of Bobby Davro, Richard Arnold making an innuendo, Ronny Jhutti, and Clive Wedderburn, amongst others. If you don't recognise that last name, you'll recognise the face: Clive was best known as PC Gary McCann on The Bill. He wasn't a full-time presenter, and, to be honest, I had no idea he'd ever done any sort of presenting - but he comes across as an absolute natural.
I'm afraid I've had to cut out any cartoons and music videos, but otherwise this is an unbroken piece of television as broadcast on the day, complete with ads and promos and all that. Oh, and note the solo credit for Ant McPartlin at the end of Saturday Disney. One wonders how young Dec felt about that - especially in light of the letter read out at 34:42.
Many thanks to David for providing this tape.
(To the best of my knowledge, the contents of this video have never been available commercially anywhere in the world. Please also note that I don't monetise any of my uploads. Nevertheless, if you are a copyright holder and have an objection, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
Now I remember the Saturday Disney theme tune. Took me back that did.
The power of the TV theme tune!
@@VideotapeFTW oh for sure. Thanks yet again mate.
WOW I'm amazed that I still had all of this, including that Gimmie 5 footage which I thought I must have just recorded over most of it, but nope there it was. Sorry the recording couldn't have been better but then this was recorded from my bedroom's TV at the time and there is only so much signal you can get in London. :D But wow this is sure to bring back massive nostalgia for me. :) You're welcome for the tape and thanks ever so much for uploading this. :)
Hey David, do you have anymore of Gimme 5? Or has VideotapeFTW cut out the rest of it and uploading it in another part?
Not at all - thank _you!_ I assure you I've seen far worse recordings on tapes more recent than this, so don't worry about that. The same tape also had a significant chunk of Ghost Train on it, which I'm working on at the moment. :-)
@@jonassimmons1988 I'm afraid that was all that was recorded, sorry about that. I'm actually amazed at myself for leaving it going for as long as I did. :D But at least it's something and it proved this show once existed. :)
@@VideotapeFTW Oh no that was the other tape with the CITV continuity and that complete Finders Keepers episode, I remember that much at least. ;) :D But yeah I'll be looking forward to seeing more and I really do want to thank you for helping me put all this nostalgia online. :) Oh and terrific job with the wipe effects too. And yeah after seeing the footage, it was a bit ghostly, but not too bad. Pity it's not like that anymore, thanks Dogital TV! :D
@@David315842 ah that's a shame. Would have been nice to see a full length episode of Gimme 5 as I don't think there's any about.
This was awesome to see again, all of it, the adverts, the show's, all of it. I'd forgotten about Gimme 5, loved watching this again, thank you, you are an absolute legend, love this channel, so nostalgic, which is really helping me at the minute, so again, thank you.
You're very welcome - and all credit to David for sending me the tape! Stay tuned, as I'll hopefully have a bit more Nobby the Sheep (this time in Ghost Train) up by the weekend. Hopefully. :-)
@@VideotapeFTW sweet, I loved Ghost Train as a kid, looking forward to it.
@@darknightdown Yep. We might see some of that this weekend. :)
@@David315842 awesome news, thank you to you as well.
@@darknightdown Oh you're very welcome. :)
This was also final week at school. Was looking forward to a long summer break until September to start college
I remember this program and Splatterdome gunge
Them faux leather trousers were everywhere in 1994. I had a pair I brought from BHS lol. Got me more than enough attention as a male.
_Now there's a Barbie you can sleep with_
😧
LOL!
I'd love to know the reason why Pippa Ford-Jones departed Saturday Disney abruptly. It may well be a private matter, but I'm still curious. I loved it when GMTV began and Saturday Disney was new. Camren Ejogo was an excellent replacement, but the show suffered from never replacing Stuart Miles with a permanent male host. Gimme 5 was an interesting case, it ticked all the boxes for a great Saturday morning show yet somehow never caught on. I watched bits of it occasionally, but I didn't like it much. Maybe it was just cursed with being a summertime show, when kids just naturally head out into the sunshine and enjoy the big school holiday. All great nostalgia though. The history of the golden age of Saturday morning kids' TV wouldn't be as interesting without the shows which didn't quite hit the mark.
Yeah, I don't think anyone ever lists Gimme 5 as one of their favourites of the era, but it's not like it didn't have all of the ingredients. It could be the summer thing, or maybe there's no logical reason to it at all. I especially love watching them all _now,_ though. Perfect cultural time capsules. :-)
Even back then when I was 10, I thought that this show wasn't too bad and it did have Nobby the Sheep back from Ghost Train, but it just didn't have the same 'urmpf' that other shows did at the time.

@@David315842 I always assumed I didn't like it because I was getting too old around mid-teens, I found the presenters hugely annoying. Kids shows were always an interesting balance between being fun and being too patronising to kids which was a huge turn off.
@@alexatkin That can do it too to some people. :)
The ads are the start are absolute gold!
Glad you like them! It sounds like some of these compilations I've put together may be right up your street: ua-cam.com/video/3SVJCLdLU3Q/v-deo.html
I'd love to know what the 2 unlimited style music was the played over splatterdome
Not only was this year the 28th anniversary of the 1994 series of ‘Stars in their Eyes’ - it was additionally the 28th anniversary of when Gimme 5 was axed / cancelled.
This is great. Still looking for the original gimme 5 intro, this is the second version you have.
Yeah, the first two series had a very different opening, slightly cheesier from memory. I may have a copy somewhere. (I'll have to search...)
Goddamn formative.
thx 4 posting. do u have anymore gimme 5 clips ? lookin 4 any clips when boyband Bad Boys Inc. appeared. thanx
I'll keep an eye out, and if I find any, I'll definitely upload them. :-)
I only just noticed how out of place that Immac roll on advert was, LOL!
Yeah, there's always one, isn't there? :-)
@@VideotapeFTW Indeed. ;)
do you have any Disney club from 1995?
I don't think so, but that's exactly the sort of thing I always keep an eye out for. If anything shows up, I'll upload it.
Dannii Minogue looked particularly cute back then, not that she doesn't still.
It seems like there was always a Minogue on Saturday morning TV back then...
Whatever happened to Iced Gems?
you can still get them, but I wouldn’t, if I were you, as the colours aren’t as good as they used to be (hence, as of 2014, I no longer eat them)
They are still being made, along with a chocolate variant called 'Choc Gems'.
(Test comment.)
Saturday 11th June 1994
That's what I think, anyway - they mention it being the Queen's official birthday, and I think that's when it fell that year.
@@VideotapeFTW and the Stars in their Eyes heat (heat 5 of the 1994 series) [hence this definitely is June 11 1994; the 9 heats of the 1994 series, of ‘Stars in their Eyes’, aired May 14 to July 9 - the final, which came 10th, aired July 16 1994]
yes, I’ve seen someone comment on this video, who sort of remembers ‘Gimme 5’ (as I remember mentioning said show to them, once) [they did, sometimes, used to watch it, on Saturday mornings, on ITV, back in the day] this Saturday was merely a week, and 11 days, after their (milestone) 10th birthday (their 10th fell on a Tuesday)
I would assume Gimme 5 was Live and Saturday Disney was pre recorded
I think you're right on the money there. :) That would explain how Danni went from one studio to another in a very short amount of time. :D
@@David315842 Gimme 5 was filmed live in Newcastle. Saturday Disney was filmed in London
@@mkbuddy I knew about Saturday Disney being filmed in London. The P.O. Box address they gave at the end of the show confirms it, plus GMTV often only really filmed in and around London anyway. But thank you for reminding me that Gimmie 5 was a Tyne Tees production and confirming it was live.
Yes, I'm pretty certain Saturday Disney was pre-recorded. If you go to the nine-minute mark, there's a sort of action replay montage that wouldn't necessarily be impossible to do live, but would be a _really_ unnecessary headache to pull off.
@@VideotapeFTW That is true too. I'm always amazed at how quickly video editors working at live sport events can quickly put together a montage of the game we just watched in about 10 minutes. But yeah that replay was a dead giveaway that this was pre-recorded. I should have realised that before.
U got and funhoues
Sorry, but no.
Can you upload more old episodes of rainbow please.
I upload them whenever they show up, but I never know when that will be. :-)
@@VideotapeFTW what do you mean by that please?
@@jess7670 Well, all the Rainbow episodes I upload comes from VHS tapes recorded at the time. I'll always upload whatever Rainbow I find, but I have to find it first.
