What is Intimate Partner Violence?

- Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious, preventable public health problem. Public health and violence prevention practitioners and researchers are united by a common goal: prevent IPV by reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors. To that end, CDC is working to promote a consistent definition of IPV and to encourage the use of evidence-based prevention strategies, such as those in Preventing Intimate Partner Violence Across the Lifespan: A Technical Package of Programs, Policies and Practices.
