Agreed. 91 saw Gaby riding such a wave of success. She had mastered defeating Steffi but doing so on grass was the hardest surface of all to stop her.

The rallies between these two players were always spectacular. Martina was so strong even until the end of her career, always able to beat any of the top players she belonged to.

This match was played after Graf had lost to Garrison. I think Martina knew that she had probably won the tournament. Her body language was back to how it was in the mid 80s.

Yes I agree, I would have liked to see her beating Graf tho. She did however beat her in the semifinals of the US Open the following year.

I actually think it would be a completely different looking match. Martina would be the same but Gaby's play would be completely different. By Wimbledon in 1991 Kyrmayr had convinced her to slowly spin in her first serve and she would have mistakenly tried to play all court tennis to beat Martina here. Her ground game was good but not good enough against Martina on grass. I think her instincts here in 1991 were correct. Gaby played (and served) well here but came up against a legend on her best surface. I love Gaby, but I think the result would have been the same.
