Is there a way to detect a users internet connection speed? I'd like to be able to serve up different "hero" sections based on that. If it's super fast, maybe I'd show a hero video, but if it's slow, just show an optimized static image

Not so sure what you mean but if I understand it correctly I'd add a callback to the "next function" to the primary event handler. If everything else fails: create & trigger a custom event...
