Car ozone generator showdown. (mostly fake)

- So having received all the units I ordered, here's the results for the ratio of fake to real and whether they all differ much internally.
I had one other I forgot to include here, which came from DealExtreme and was a fake with the same red packaging.
So the results were basically 70% fakes and 30% real.
There's a good chance that the only reason I got some real ones was because I looked carefully through all the ebay listings for ones that had product pictures that were clearly different from the generic manufacturer images, and actually hinted at the units being real through the presence of the lamp and mesh at the end.
I took one apart I bought at a flea market and it had cigarette papers and a green leafy substance in it. The air in the car got thick and sweet then suddenly all the LEDs got brighter and more vivid. The music on the radio got better and I decided to stop and get some fast food. That was the best damn fast food I ever had.
Lmbo
Thats the best type
I chose one where I could see the mesh, but I still got a fake one. This from the Ebay seller "lilyli12". Sent a msg back saying I'd like a real one, awaiting for reply.
Did you ever get a reply back from lilyli12? Can you have these things running while your driving around in your car, or do they choke you? And do they destroy the materials in your car?
@@alext8828 that's what I was thinking. In the workshop we use a big ozone-generator, but you shouldn't get near them, because you'll die.
"They saved a lot of money by making them fake" Obviously, otherwise they would just sell the real thing!
You'd be surprised 🤷🏻♀️ Clive has taken apart plenty of over complicated fakes.
Auhtor, hi from Russia ! Tnx for the video ! OMG only 30% is real ozonizers !
i bought a real one and it blew the fuse in my truck within about 20 minutes. high voltage things from china have been blowing up lots of 12v power supplies for me lately.
I remember seeing Bandai toy commercials when I was a kid. That's Japanese though...
Thank you. I bought a fake one.
same as mine
i had a fake one to!
Great ! what a rip off with the fakes.
I purchased 2 of these off eBay and the were nothing but an LED inside.
eBay seller name_again.
do you know if the ceramic plate ozone generators are any good? (12v ceramic ozone should bring them up on ebay) I could do with a decent ozone generator but I don't fancy my chances finding one of these that work, and the big units are quite pricey. These ceramic ones look good, if they actually work?
Shit! i bought some on eBay and i am sure they are fakes cuz they light like a real blue led :(
I've just looked around ebay for one of those, and they seem to have noticed a certain return quota and changed their song a bit: "Note:As its low cost, the purification function is relatively weak, the main function of it is to play the role of decoration. Please kindly understand."
Some even state that there's a blue LED in it, and rate the ozone output at e.g. 3mg/h... which is probably the ionisation caused by the open wires in there ;o)
Bought one from seller: yoopar , it was a fake!
Question... why do they even bother placing a transistor in there? Or even a PCB at all?
I'm not sure why it isn't just 2 wires and a recycled resistor sloppily soldered in there.
+weylin6 It's for show when you look down the end of the unit. So it looks like there's circuitry inside it.
+bigclivedotcom I just realized someone already asked the question, woops.
Too bad these can't be traced back to who did it so they can be... whatever it is they do to producers and distributors of counterfeit products?
+weylin6 LOL. you mean nothing? Especially in China?
48express-uk is real, i ordered one after your original video on the real one from them, and yep, its real.
Yes I can second the above!
Ive just bought one, lets see if they still sell the real ones!
Bought a fake from ebay seller smile1399....all it is doing is lighting a fucking led light up lolololololo
What are the chances they are all sold by the same person under different accounts and knew of the plan so he sent the other things separately....
At least you have a pile of nice looking aluminum enclosures.
Movie props for tacky Sci-Fi shows!
Saw your vid too late... got two fakes 😫😫😡😡😡
Two of them just arrived and as I know how the air should smell, I realized instantly that I got ripped. Btw, these are not supposed to be ozone generators (those are quite dangerous and should be used only in absense) but neative ion air purifiers. Is there any ebay seller with intl delivery I could trust?
Interesting. I have never heard of such an item to begin with. Hmmm... I looked on the US eBay and could not find the ones that you show. The cheapest was $10 US so I'm guessing they would be made to actually work.
Clive I did not even get a transistor in my FAKE ozone generator, lol !!!
Just got another fake bunch from another store. Same brand Chinease Yake . This fake companys needs to be banned. If anyone finds the real ones please paste the link to the source becouse i cant find thoose mentioned in the video.
Thanks bigclive, great help.
I'm still trying to figure out why they even bothered with the transistor.
So that if you look down the end you see "components".
bigclivedotcom
Sneaky, but now I have another question. Does the transistor actually work? Not in the circuit, but would it work in a real circuit? Is it a plastic blob with wires poking out of it?
It's probably a real transistor, but the cheapest they could find.
bigclivedotcom Just asking, what was the component labeled as?
At least they’re a nice casing if you get a fake…
As Ozone basically liquifies your lungs (BAD) I do hope you mean Air Oinizers..?
And good ones that produce practically no Ozone.
Difference is the voltage at which they operate and the roundness of the positive electrode to keep charge density there low.
You want cold plasma/Corona voltages.
Check out my "great big ozone video".
Omg that package have write in italian why
DAMN - Wish I'd watched this before buying one - I got a fake !!
I decide to buy an usb plasma ball and...
More decorative, fun and ionizer air more efficently :-)
Bought several from different sites only got fakes if anyone find the real one please link
Some show a picture of the PCB inside to prove they are selling the real thing. Whether that's what they send you is an unknown variable.
how is this legal
Incredible, how the client is cheated with these fake-products. I would be interested if the fakes were warranty or if the manufacturer would be able to excuse his product with producing ozon, however.
Thank you for your videos!
Buy two from aliexpress for 4$ and are real!
Great video! Thank you for the info!
I had one which was real, but really weak.
How do you test for ozone.
East test is to smell the end. If there's a distinct bleachy smell it's generating ozone.
fake one: 2010tobebetter
found it! :)
Gracias
Didnt show us it running! Time for a remake? ;)
The real one isn't terribly exciting. It just glows dimly at the end. But it creates a strong smell of ozone. The tricky bit is finding a real one.
Does anyone have a circuit diagram of one of these?
I reverse engineered a real one in this video.
ua-cam.com/video/ZG_0NcaNjY8/v-deo.html
Isn't ozone harmful?
In quantity - yes. I don't recommend continuous exposure.
Despite being genuine how efficient these are?
The real ones put out too much ozone to stay in a car with while they are running. Best used for brief deodorisation while the car is not occupied.
What's the name of the one that works?
It's totally random what you get.
Have you had a look inside the USB stick ones?
I've not had a look at those yet. The idea of creating high voltage referenced to a laptops ground, particularly with the ionisers, seems a bad idea.
+bigclivedotcom How about having a look now? :D Greetings from Germany!
i thought ozone wasnt good for you
Its not.
+biglivedotcom is there anything in these that can cause disruption to an LCD display in the car?
+Paul Saunders They operate at high frequency, but I can't think of a way they would do anything other than perhaps jam a radio signal.
+bigclivedotcom
Thanks bigclive, I'll have to do a video and upload it to UA-cam and post a link for you.
+Paul Saunders If the pattern on the LCD changes when you bring your hand near it then it may be an electrostatic charge caused by the ioniser. Especially if it doesn't happen when it's not plugged in.
+bigclivedotcom
no change if I touch the display and it clears after a couple of hours when I unplug it. it doesn't affect the display when plugged into a socket two feet away so It must be a localised problem. I'll stick with the remote socket. Thanks for your input and keep up the good work.
What does it smell like?
Does the smell wear off?
+Mac MashPotato It smells like bleach and the smell dissipates in around an hour as the ozone bonds onto other molecules in the air.
+bigclivedotcom what does it do? the ozone generator thing? isn't ozone bad?
+Re Ozone is not a hazard in the amounts produced by the small generators, I'm sure breathing in pure Ozone would not be particularly good for you but I may be wrong. The best to my knowledge Ozone is harmless.
+BlitzKrieg Airsoft UK It's actually rather poisonous and dangerous even in small quantities. However, ozone has an incredible smell and you can actually smell it long before it gets to any harmful levels. As long as you don't run away from the smell already, you should be fine :D
(You can sometimes smell ozone in the air after a thunderstorm. Just think what kind of trace amounts that has to be)
Oh, Okay fair enough, I just presumed there wouldn't be any hazard as the design wouldn't have been put into production if there was any hazard. In hindsight I am horrendous at chemistry so I probably end up saying the wrong thing. Thanks for not ranting and swearing at me for getting something wrong,it's what I usually expect on UA-cam. Glad to know there is someone reasonable out there.
Ozone is harmful for the body. It is probably an ioniser (anion generator) and not ozon generator. This comparison is really eye opening and useful! Thank you!
This one is an ozone generator.
@@bigclivedotcom Oh. Then the supplier must have made a mistake in the selling page. Coz Anion and Ozone is different and they may have confused the two as most seller of such in car ioniser products are from China. Ozone generator is very effective for odour removal but it is harmful for health. So it is unlikely that it will be used in car. Normally it is used commercially for odour and mould removal. Anyway, this is still an excellent comparison exercise between real and fake product regardless if it is ozone generator or anion generator.
Také jsem si jednu atrapu blbec koupil..
No to já hned 20 :(
The first video I've seen of yours!
