  • That is right my Ligniperda grew in size. I have had this colony since 2021 and it’s now over a year old. Last update they had 5 workers and now they have a whopping 8 workers! Can you believe it?

Moove only, if colony reach 30 workers. My experience shows, that colonies with lower worker number than 30 tend to fell in diapause after rehousing.

Great to see that they've made progress! I would love to see them in the nest but I think keeping them in the tube would be best for now, great video as usual!

I got mine in 2020 - last year they went into hibernation with around 12-15 workers, very similar to where you are just now. However this year they have grown from that to around 40 workers! So i think next year your colony will boom

Great Video! I caught my queen on the 4.06.2022 now she has 7 Pupea i hope she will lay some more eggs before hibrenation but yes Camponotus ligniperda is very slow at growth my Lasius niger colony from last year are doing pretty good they have brood in all stages.

I think you should wait until they have 10 or so workers. Then move them to the nest as it looks cool.

In interested in wakooshi and they do look easy to maintain... but what do you do when Cotten in test tube setups get moldy? How do you clean them? Thanks

My own Ligniperda colony grew from 3 workers to 13 since coming out of hibernation. From the looks of the amount of brood, I'll pass 20 this year. I have them in a small 3D-printed formicarium just now, with an outworld attached. I mostly give them mealworms or fruitflies for protein, and they love maple syrup water too.

  • @Creepy747
    @Creepy747 2 роки тому +1

Keep ‘em in the test tube as if untried beforehand than that is mostly a sign that they are not too keen on moving any time soon maybe move them when they have around 10 to 20 workers from my experience

Hey, I also have a ligniperda colony that I also got in 2021 and when I got the queen there were 6 workers and sadly they went down to 3 in a couple of months, and after this year's hibernation I started to feed them more protein and more frequently and now there are 8 or more workers in just a couple of months :)

This year i catched 10 queens of lignyperda.
But only 7 of them survived.
I think the test tubes are better

Well done EA nice that they are developing well for you.
I have heard some campo need to be a bigger worker count to live in Wood as they will then regulate there own moisture in a nest when you can't do it for them . But i don't know if that applies to lignipurda .

The larger worker is also probably a newer worker as the workers tend to get bigger each generation

    Hoi EA,

as a camponotus ligniperda keeper ( 1 year 35 worker colony) they will dont move at least mine, only move them when 2 chambers can be filld with ants. If you move them now they will not come out to forage.

I caught a queen this year, I was wondering when did your queen first get her nanitics?
On the topic of moving the colony, I would personally keep them in a test tube since they (at least in nature) live in soil exclusively, they are not an arboreal species
