  • Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs is the author of "Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals," which won a Whiting Award. This video captures her conversation with students from Baruch College's Department of Black and Latino Studies. The students were all enrolled in the BLS capstone course called "Climate Justice is Racial Justice." The event was co-sponsored by the BLS Department, the English Department via Globus Lectures, and the Dean's Office at Baruch's Weissman School of Arts and Sciences. "Undrowned" is published by AK Press.

    Thank you for sharing this conversation. Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs book Undrowned changed my life and I will listen to this many more times. So much wisdom from everyone here.

    I love animals, and I love the point the author makes about scientists making these dry, wordy articles on animals that defy their love for them :3
