RIP my dude, your wonderful words and voice will be missed by this world!
R.I.P you will never be forgotten. Legend that you are. True son of city of Birmingham 🙏🏾❤️
A lot of these schools and teachers should be ashamed of themselves. They still treat children like this in a lot of classrooms/schools. #EveryChildIsNotSame!! Thank you for sharing your greatness with us. Your legacy will live on forever!!! Rest In Peace.
I'm so sad you had to leave us, Benjamin. You were a gift to so many people. Rest in poetry ❤
I am the same. I think he is an amazing human being and I wish there were more like him.
Beautiful person and beautiful poet ❤
It’s amazing that how horribly treated Benjamin was treated yet he still wrote books and is so amazing
You support a man that beats women and openly admits to it?

Very brave chap and inspiring.
Amazing....
Nice story.
So refreshing and inspirational to see a black man tell his story of achievement simply as a man and without the need to use his race as a crutch or tool for division with other men of all races.
You are amazing thank you

Quite possibly the worst poet who ever lived if the truth be told.
I was force fed this crap at school, then went home and listened to my Leonard Cohen records.
Awwwwww
Inspiration and a man who has overcome great adversity. So did I. But don't sell His poetry as great.
It's dumbing down working-class class kids like me and no doubt my kids and Grandkids.
Meanwhile, the Chinese are laughing there arse s off.
His poetry and itself important, but don't make it out to be what it is not.
Maybe at 9 or 10 years. But not when your 15. maya angelou and james baldwin maybe?
Admittedly he isn't the most eloquent poet but as a teacher, I have found his work useful in engaging disenfranchised inner-city students that see no value in poetry. It lends itself to hip hop, reggae and other sub-cultures that challenging students are able to connect with. It also serves as a good starting point for introducing more complex work.
