    VU meter is *NOT a spectrum analyzer*
    it's literally "volume unit meter" which measures just volume, nothing else
    other than that, great one!

    excited for the fusion video with cody. always have thought fusion was the ultimate goal for making things at home. I've actually looked into building a smaller reactor with a diffusion pump instead of a turbo pump and around a 3.5-6" diameter spherical chamber, just never have had the money yet.

    I'm curious about what sort of neutron detector you bought. I'm a grad student in nuclear engineering, and I know those tubes are sometimes not great, are really expensive, or are really *really* expensive (like the 3He ones). Also, if it's a BF3 tube, be careful. They can corrode from the inside and break open unexpectedly, especially if it's old. A couple friends of mine got to spend a day at the hospital because a BF3 tube broke open when they were disconnecting the coax. The building had to be evacuated for a few hours also.

    That is a really hacky way of driving the LEDs. I find driving them with a transistor is far easier and more effective. I am guessing that is why you had several extra LEDs on the breadboarded version; some were staying on and some were not getting power and you had to trial and error it.
    Connect the base of a PNP to the comparator output, emitter to V+, and collector to your LED.
    I have a really crappy video on my channel that shows me driving LEDs via transistor. It is a 3-bit FSM.
    Anyway cool video. I will probably try it over the weekend.

    It's so finicky to adjust and doesn't have quite enough movement because you made the divisions linear. It would help to make them exponential. You don't need a lot of resistor values to make exponential divisions, you can do for example R/2R resistor ladder to produce reference voltages.
    Oh, to go with it, you might want an exponential regulator for the input too... well... you can bias a linear potentiometer to get eerily close, and better than logarithmic pots that you can actually buy. Look at "Better Volume Controls" on Rod Eliott's website. Of course it needs to go into a high impedance input, so this is not a universally applicable hack.

    As laser light is electromagnetic radiation, would a magnetic field be able to "steer" it ?

    • @KeystoneScience
      @KeystoneScience  6 років тому +1

      I would like to think so, at least very very slightly, under the traditional sense of light, it has an oscillating magnetic field, so you would expect a magnet to make the light waver to and fro with every oscillation, but I have never seen an experiment showing this, it is an experiment I would like to try, because while I’ve been gone I have been working on formulas describing light as basically and very small 2 component object, and with my formulas, light is constantly neutral because the 2 components have equal and opposite charge ( so basically the electric field is always neutral, and the magnetic field is always neutral )... sorry I went on a bit of a tangent, light really gets me exited... in short, I’m not sure, my intuition tells me that light does not respond in a noticeable way to charge, or magnetic fields, but I think that is yet to be tested ( if your curious, my version of light has 2 particles at a charge of ±(plank charge)*√2, or at least that’s what my math tells me.
