This video was such a scandal at that time, banned from TV, released as a VHS at the time, all the profits went for Aids research. This is my favorite song and video not only by Mylene, but in general! She said once, if she gets cast away to an abandoned island, she'd take that song with her :) Obviously this is extremely symbolic and can be interpreted in various ways but we can all agree is that the core concept here is - innocence lost! In fact the clip comes as a support for the lyrics of the song. The "evil" being in black with the sharp nails is her double. The lyrics are about disappointed love and how one feels drained of its essence after a difficult breakup. The video draws a parallel between this loss of love and the loss of faith. How the gentle and innocent being in us can suddenly be replaced by the more cynical being that we then become when we're marked by life. How from blind one becomes sighted, even if the reality is seldom very beautiful. And that you have to overcome the obstacles of your own blindness to become clairvoyant. To be an adult somewhere. Time is doing its job.

Another fine reaction and interpretation to our beloved Mylène! Btw: Egon Schiele was an Austrian painter, not Australia. Greetings from Austria/Europe! ;))
This was my BA Honours project for History of Arts back in 1999... For getting my diploma. Mylene has multiple references to other artists like Egon Shiele and Edgar Allan Poe and others. This for me is her masterpiece. One explanation would be the innocence/marriage with god/ring and at the end she succumbs to temptation and renounces God and breaks the seal with him by giving up the ring and regaining her sight. All is twisted in this video. Jesus on crucifx without actual crucific and body of Jesus just a sceleton. In the end she is reborn. You did great work researching. ;)
The way I understand these incredible lyrics is that she's giving love back to someone who left her for a Gauguin type of girl - "I saw your hand choose Gauguin". Gauguin famously portrayed many curvey women, especially during his Tahiti period, whereas her "only master is Egon Schiele" who mostly used rather skinny models for his art, and in fact, one of his models looked very much like Mylène. But that's just a few lines of the lyrics. The whole text is full of symbols and could be interpreted in many ways. This song is one of Mylène's lyrical, musical and cinematographic masterpieces.
Your interpretation is correct! This is the message of the choice between Gauguin and Schièle for "The Woman" in painting Just like "the flayed" or "A master's nude", be the only one! Mylène Farmer has very strong texts!
Hi DEREK ! This song is my favorite and i'm fan since 1985 ! This video has been censored on TV in France in 1999. So Mylene decided to sell a VHS video of the song in many shops. All profits from the sale were donated to the AIDES foundation (SIDACTION in France).
Would be interesting to see you react to "Moi... Lolita" sung by Alizée, but written by Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat (her songwriting partner). They noticed the singer when she won a tv talent show while they were looking for a new, young singer to record this song they'd written. It was a big hit back in 2000 and has a movie-like video (directed by Laurent Boutonnat). The lyrics were inspired by the novel "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov.
Poor FANTOMATE... no one will ever be more desperate than you. Stop projecting onto others what you are yourself since you're the biggest junkie and drunk "girl" here
A clip as successful as these written words ... as his haunting music ... This lexical field on the painting mixing the feeling of abandonment ... Certainly HIS finest work ... HIS favorite song and certainly also that of his fans ... we never tire of it ... at each concert. ..
I always took this video as a giant metaphor for love. To enter it blindly and emerge in a place of sanctuary. In a place where you feel safe and must completely trust. Only to be victimized by someone untrustworthy in your most vulnerable state. To submit to them and to be emotionally violated by someone in your most sacred place, your state of love. Losing all dignity to the motives of another. To have your most trusting state, love, raped and crucified. Yet at the end, nude, in her purest form, stripped of all hope and trust, she is knelt down in her own blood, her life force and she reclaims all that she once was by placing the most profound symbol of love: a wedding ring back into the pool of blood. To walk away from it all but forever changed. I finally broke down and bought the album innamoramento on vinyl. I had always steamed it before, for years. That album, sonically was ahead of its time. A 5 star album without question. Absolutely brilliant. Im dying in hopes that you'll react to L'âme-stram-gram video. Its amazing and graphiclly stunning. Plus youd really enjoy the song. The video is, in true Mylène fashion, supurb.. With an oriental movie motif. A nod to Chinese film.

Hi Derek, very happy that you followed our requests and did a video about this music video. As usual with Mylène, all interpretations are possible and that's her strength. Everybody can put their own feelings on her songs and appropriate them. One of the explanations that I really liked was that it was a song about maternal love and coming of age, leaving the parental nest, turning away from a toxic relationship with her mother. Je voyais l'âtre, tous ces inconnus, toi parmi eux" "being extracted from the fame, my life suspended, I dreamed of something better. I saw the place, all these strangers, you among them" could refer to birth, being extracted from the womb, suspended by feet by the doctors, in a hospital room with nurses and the mother in the middle. The sounds of that song made it so particular, it was as you said deep, emotional and by the end of ot with rock sounds on the edge. Watching the clip now, it seems odd that the clip had been censored, especially with all the things we see in music videos now but at the time, you didn't mess with the church. And it was Mylène, a lot of people loved to criticize her. I am really glad you enjoy her songs, all periods mixed up. Have a great day Derek
Mylène's religious attitude is a matter of another topic (partly can be derived from the book "Une grande astronaute"). As for the song, it brought me a clear impression of gazing down the abyss of my own unconscious part. Also the unconscious is clearly felt when watching works by Egon Shiele. The way the song was created just emphasizes the whole deal. As for me this one of the creepiest yet appealing works by Farmer/Boutonnat.... And thank you for the video!
It seems she enters into a pact with the devil. It would be the ring she drops off into the blood at the end as she seals that pact with the devil who by the way makes her recover her eyesight. It's like she let the devil (who could symbolized the perversion(s) ) abusing her like he succeed to get her soul ... She made a 80's video called : "Sans Logique" you'll see another kind of dark pact she deals with another lover the sound and remixes of that song are just amazing !!!!! Clue : inspiration: Goya (painter) & Minotaur

You should watch "intro + A force de..." from Timeless 2013 !
Yes !! It’s so good !!

This video and song are a protest against rapes performed by members of the catholic church, great that you decided to review it!

IT'S AMAZING YOU MUST SEE DERECK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible
Hi Dereck! Another brillant reaction/analysis. You can check another great "movie" from her "L'âme-Stram-Gram (long version)"
What she gave up is her faith ♥ I love your videos about her!
We need now the L'ame stram gram video reaction.
I think you should look at "Libertine" and "Pourvu quelles soient douces", the two music videos get along and form a short film.
You need to see "Ghostland" recent movie with Mylene and Cristal Reed. She is so stunning in this movie, and the movie... 😍🤩
One of her best songs!
I love when you say "Je te rends ton amour" : so exotic ! 😂 (I'm not making fun of you : French is such a difficult language for foreigners)
"Je te rone narone" :D
As English is just as difficult to pronounce for french people, I include myself in that.
@@75Philippos French here, all "TH" words are EVIL for us :D

It seems she enters into a pact with the devil. It would be the ring she drops off into the blood at the end as she seals that pact with the devil who by the way makes her recover her eyesight. It's like she let the devil (who could symbolized the perversion(s) ) abusing her like he succeed to get her soul ... She made a 80's video called : "Sans Logique" you'll see another kind of dark pact she deals with another lover the sound and remixes of that song are just amazing !!!!! Clue : inspiration: Goya (painter) & Minotaur
Good analyse; Hard job because her clips are always painful and full of symbols. You analyse very good. Thank you
My favorite UA-cam vidéos atm 😄 Keep them going!!
Hi Dereck, you have to think that everything she sings, and all the videos are made of hidden meanings, here you can see that love make you blind, your vision is back when you've been hurt

my favorite mylene farmer song... but the most amazing part of it are the lyrics, so you're not really enjoying it to the fullest! its absolutely flawless
Very true . Very strong and amazing lyrics
Been into Mylene since the early 90s. She makes incredible music and I love her clear voice.
I have been in love with her since I first saw her in what? 1987? And she is still the love of my life.
The other "dark" wonder by her is 'Beyond My Control', strongly recommended
