The tutorial I never knew I needed Thank you, I know once my mom and I are blessed with our new home, I’ll be making it OURS with little things like this that bring life to it, made by our own hands! Thank you for this! God bless you! 💕🌹🕊
I’ve been making paper flowers for a few years and I just need to say thank you for sharing! Flowers, I can basically replicate any I find online by the image alone with just my scissors and paper. Stems for giant flowers has been tricky! I have sweet talked my husband into bending pvc at the bottom with his heat gun to make the base, but I hate asking and it’s usually not as stable as I would prefer. Your method sounds genius, the warm sand, which you can reuse, perfect solution! Thank you again!
Thank you so much! The stems and base is also tricky for me but I definitely feel like the heated sand helps even the heat when shaping the pipe and after a few practices, it’s gotten easier! I also partnered with a local metal shop to help make me stands so I could now sell it on my shop, if you’re interested 💕
brilliant use of butcher paper for size! I'm ordering some right now. I love the look of crepe paper but it's so expensive and this look is just as beautiful and effective and more durable! Thank you for sharing !
Hi Sara, I'm loving your design! Thank you so much for your tutorials. May I ask which thickness/strength of card stock you are using to achieve this lightweight look at texture of the petals? Your card stock link above brings me to the main home page & I'm wondering which product you are suggesting. Huge thanks again!
Thank you, I used 65lb text weight cardstock paper. Any of the paper should work from the 12x12 cardstock shop just look through the colors you like or you could paint them yourself
These are so beautiful! However, I started trying to make one with 12x12 cardstock. Your petals in this video look much larger than that. I edited this because I did purchase the wrong template lol. I have right one now, but your paper used in the video still looks much larger than 12x12. did you use larger paper than that? Thank you!
@Handmade By Sara Kim true.. you have to rotate the gun around and also up and down. Otherwise, you will get a creased pole when you bend. You are amazing!
These are wonderful, I'm going to be making some soon. I'm getting my materials together, but I was wondering if you had a tutorial for your method of using the gouache paint to prepare the petals. I have no experience with painting, but I love the way these look, so I'd like to try.
@@HandmadeBySaraKim You underestimate my lack of painting skills! :) 'm completely lost. I don't know if I need to use a sponge, paintbrush, or something else, and I don't know if I need to be careful of painting in a specific direction (ex. do I need to go up and down, or can it go on any ol' way?) What colors do you recommend for this flower (or other flowers)? This information is beyond my grasp, which is why I ask. I know that it's funny that I'm confident with the paper skills but so lost with paint! :)
@@christinadauphine857 I can't paint either, but I would definitely go up and down, not across the petal. That's how they are in nature! I've seen painting tutorials for crepe paper flowers, that may help? It would be roughly the same just on a smaller scale I imagine. Good luck!
Now I need to try this. Not sure I got this, do you remove the sand from the pipe? So you heat the sand, put it into the pipe and then mold the pipe and remove the sand? ❤
Yes I remove the sand after it cools down about 10 minutes or so after molding so I usually alternate and do another one while it cools down then take the sand out of the other one and reheat.
I used 12x18 cardstock paper but if you want to use it on the cutting machine, you’ll have to use 12x12 or letter size which means it’ll be a little smaller.
I wonder how long these will stay intact if I put it as a decor in my place. I don't have a background in this and I worry that if enough people touch it, it'll get destroyed. Does anyone have advice on changing some of the materials or anything?
They have been in my craftroom for 2 years now and look fine but you could try making them with fabric and I have a tutorial on my channel with fabric flowers.
The sand is to heat the inside so the pipe could be flexible to reshape into a more natural stem look rather than it being straight, I’ve used heat gun or a hair dryer and it doesn’t do it evenly enough so I felt it was best with the heated sand
Hello! I just purchased one of your giant paper flower tutorials! Can I ask how long your couplings are? I can only seem to find ones in 1.32” length which isn’t as long as yours.
Mine are about 2 inches length, when I get them from the store, I try to find the longer ones just to have some room but you could make it work with the shorter ones too.
Yes, the sand is for the pipe to be flexible and shaped to be more curved and you do have to remove the sand, I just throw it back onto the pan. You could choose to just do a straight stem if you want to skip this step or you could also try heat gun on both sides, I just felt the sand gives me the most flexibility while the heat gun makes a little harder to shape fully.
I feel okay knowing that this video exists

Making stuffs like this in a group is really fun these brings back childhood memories
Definitely more fun than by myself 🙂

Sweet talk him into using a hot gun? Why? It's a heat gun. He's not giving his kidney.
Wow this is fabulous, such clear instructions as well.
Thank you so much 💕💕
Thanks! Love the ones with multiple pipes. Saves space. Will also try making square ones so they can fit together neatly.
Thank you, yes squares ones are great too!
A wonderful wedding reception display. Different flower types and colours. Wonderful idea and thank you for sharing your tutorial ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I have a few different giant flower tutorials on my channel 🫶🏼

Thank you so much! Yes I typically use cardstock paper and feel it’s a cheaper alternative and still easy to work with!
These are so gorgeous, thank you!! 😍
Thank you so much!
I love it! It's so huge and that's what I love about it the most.
Wow I need a tutorial on those iris!!
We hope to soon 💕💕

Hi! Question… are you putting a few pvc couplers in the cement base when it’s wet? So you can add more than one flower stem to the one base?
Yes and yes

Wow! Just wow!! 🤩
Thank you so much 🥰
I love your creations! Can't wait for you to show us how to make the orchids in the background ! Thank you
Hope to soon! Thank you!
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!
💕
Your little one must be amazed at the giant flowers mom makes.
It is fantastic as window display backdrop !!!
Thank you
This looks great! How do you bend the pvc pipe after putting sand into it so it looks natural?
The heated sand will make the pvc flexible and you just form it the way you like and let it cool off and it will form.
Thank you for this Video. I always wanted to make really big flowers for the entrance of my preschool
That would be so cute!
I'll send a photo when it's ready📸😊
Wow. So beautiful. I love this idea for a future party.
Perfect for parties!
Wow, this video is so helpful and informative. It will definitely have an impact on my productions. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
This is so beautiful seems so easy 🥰 love it
Thank you!
Love it! You can also bend your pvc pipe by using a heat gun.
I've tried the heat gun but I felt it doesn't evenly heat but maybe I'll have to try again!
@Handmade By Sara Kim true.. you have to rotate the gun around and also up and down. Otherwise, you will get a creased pole when you bend. You are amazing!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
What size cardstock were you using?
I used a 12x24 cardstock but you could use letter size or 12x12 also.
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Do you happen to know what weight of cardstock you used for the petals?
It is text weight, 65lb cardstock paper 💕
Great this video shows making the poppy in great detail 👌
Thanks 👍
That looks great .... love it So much ....
Or do you recommend one flower stem per base?
If you have a wider base then you could add more stems, if it’s a small base, add one
Really pretty!
Has anyone figured out a way to make these waterproof and weather resistant for outdoors?
You could seal the paper, they have a seal spray or modpodge but I’ve never fully let it rain on the flowers so I don’t know what that’ll look like.
I wish the stem formation was shown. Can you do a tutorial about the concrete base and stem formation?
The stem is formed using the hot sand and I form it on the floor randomly. I show the details toward the end of the video here

No special painting skills, just add color on butcher paper if you want bigger colored paper. You’ll have to let it dry.

Gorgeous work
Did u cut the petals the way u liked or u bought them ready??
Amazing work . Great place to learn and get ideas
Thank you! Cheers!
Making this could calm me down!
💕
What of cardstock paper is it cus i have recollection
I use recollection but I also like 12x12 cardstock from their store, also use extra large cardstock also from recollection.
hi are the petals cut on 12x12” paper?
I used 12x18 cardstock paper but if you want to use it on the cutting machine, you’ll have to use 12x12 or letter size which means it’ll be a little smaller.
Wow,,, This is so beautiful and colorful,, you are such a very talented,, Amazing craft👌💕
Hi. The cardstock you are holding for the pedals look way bigger than an 8x11 or 12x12. How do you get the the giant size with normal size paper?
You could use 12x19 cardstock paper to make it bigger or even butcher paper.
I wonder how long these will stay intact if I put it as a decor in my place. I don't have a background in this and I worry that if enough people touch it, it'll get destroyed. Does anyone have advice on changing some of the materials or anything?

I don’t understand what the sand was for? Is it to bend the PVC pipe a certain way? So you hear it from inside?

Hi dear Sara, if i had to chose one of your giant flower tutorials as a beginner, which one would you recommend as easy❤
I would say the paper lavender is easy or the hydrangea.
What do you call that stand? The one that supports the ground
It’s made with concrete and pvc pipe or you could also purchase my metal stand kit- www.handmadebysarakim.com/shop/stand
Awesome!
Thank you!

I have one for the smaller orchids and you could easily scale those larger.
So whimsical… I love it:)
Beautiful work 👏👏
Beautiful 🌺
can I use toilet paper rolls instead of PVC cuppler?
Yes, you could just add the flower directly onto the pipe too.
Looks like Arrietty garden ❤️

This is to make the pipe flexible and shape to be more flower stem like
